That was the most encouraging loss

Josiah31 : 10/11/2019 11:34 am
I’ve seen sense 07 when we lost to the Patriots right before playoffs. Showed that we can hang with the “best team” in the league. Am I the only one that thinks when our weapons are back (hopefully next week) that we have a shot to beat anyone? The defense showed some promise last night. We get Barkley back in there, it should open up some throwing lanes for Jones. Which probably makes the difference last night. Really encouraged by Jones. The kid is going to be great.
Would have been more encouraging

if it had been closer, and if Jones had played better, but basically yes. I agree. Progress. Not enough yet, but definitely progress.
Winnble game

If we had a classic Coughlin mistake free game plan and roster in place. Coaching was the biggest culprit.
Most disappointing last night

When we got the third quarter kickoff and drove it down to their 30 using a hurry up offense. And then the interception killed it. It would have been nice to go in a tie the game or at least make it 21-17. I was deflated at that point.

Even The ensuing fumble for a td didn’t upset me as much as that drive stopper.
I’m just happy it was an enjoyable

Entertaining game for 3 quarters

I really like the rebuilding of this team
Gettledogman : 10/11/2019 12:29 pm : link
so many good things out of yesterdays game. The Pats are far superior and we were in it until the last qtr. The picked apart our middle its weak. DJ rook game but he is a gamer like him a lot. DTs great push up front, Mayo flashed a bit. Jenkins terrible plays and then great plays. Same w Peppers he is a player.. Coach needs to go for it 4 and 2 so what you don't make it. dumb decision. but I like this team.
we looked
Dankbeerman : 10/11/2019 12:36 pm : link
like an average team losing to the Patriots. Up for debate if thats acceptable to you, but its clearly better then anyone expected.

It looked we were a team that was an impact player or two away from having a shot. We have Barkley, Shep and Engram to help the O but we dont have the defenses version of Barkley, Shep aor Engram on the roster. We need a stud on D at any/every level.

as encouraging is that the Giants have faced the Cowboys, Bills, Vikings & Patriots Defenses so far.

They are 2-4, but they are battle tested and there's a lot of young guys learning from this. I appreciate the fight they are putting up.
We could really have something with Slayton

THis was a close
Phil in LA : 10/11/2019 12:59 pm : link
game. Take away Hilliman and Stupar's helmet, and a few of the worst non calls in football history, and it's super close.
The Pats are who we thought they are
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/11/2019 1:49 pm : link
and we let 'em off the hook!
what was encouraging?
japanhead : 10/11/2019 1:52 pm : link
they were blown out, after being blown out last week. the offense was able to score only one touchdown in 3 of 5 games this year. jones has looked progressively worse every game since his first v tampa bay (yes, i realize he's a rookie and has faced good defenses). shurmur seems to have no feel for calling a game, or personnel. the defense went into the game ranked 30th and fell apart in the second half. the starting RB last night was hiliman.

how the fuck was this "the most encouraging loss?" because they came back from 14 down to tie, after numerous turnovers, before the blowout started. give me a break. to me, the team looks worse than they did at the end of last year.
The Giants lead the NFL in encouraging losses

Just give it a little more time... Then before you know it a decade has passed.
I don’t feel like this team has turned the corner.
cosmicj : 10/11/2019 2:02 pm : link
When a team is building towards something, you can feel it. I’m not feeling it. I think there are isolated examples of excellence In the franchise but they are mixed up in a situation with a lot of floundering going on.

The big next step is to find a real head coach. I don’t even care what Shurmur’s final record is this season. Gettleman better be on it and working carefully on a short list of highly promising candidates. Everyone keeps comparing Saquon/Jones with Gurley/Goff. Like the Rams, this is a perfect situation for a truly excellent head coach like McVay to come in and engineer a turnaround. In fact, I think it’s a really attractive coaching situation and HC candidates will likely be extremely interesting.
Look, this is the...

eighth year of our twenty year rebuild, so it's okay to be hopeful... ;)
I watched a different game
Matt M. : 10/11/2019 2:20 pm : link
We didn't show we could hang with them. They played poorly for almost an entire half. Great. We were 1 score down. Then they woke up and the Giants were outclassed, as we expected.
I know we can’t go back

To the “good OL’ days” but I was definitely missing Eli and Coughlin last night. They were the BB & TB kryptonite together. Smash mouth, Mistake-free football combined with timely 3rd down conversions. They knew when to pick and choose their times to strike and they never let the mystique of Belichick and Brady cause them to play outside their identity. After living through an era of that iconic NYG duo I’m flabbergasted at how many BBI posters are so impressed by Shurmur’s bare minimum effort as an NFL coach last night.

Bettcher is a different story, I thought his defense was fast and ferocious and the D’s performance for most the game was right up there with the great NYG defensive performances against the Pats over the past 10+ years. Special teams and offense couldn’t do their parts to simply not make mistakes and keep us in the game until the very end.

I wasn’t expecting a win last night, but with the way the defense was playing it’s a shame Shurmur couldn’t figure out enough of a game plan with the little he had to at least keep the game competitive until the very end. That’s what he’s paid to do and as head coach of the NYG I feel there’s no problem with holding him to that standard when his defense is giving him a performance like that, IMO

so all the Giants needed last night was the .530 winning percentage coach who won playoff games in 2 out 12 seasons?
Team

is young, but building. We could be very good, for a good long time.

When Brady retires and BB comes back home.
I would not go overboard
.McL. : 10/11/2019 3:59 pm : link
There was good and bad from last night.

The D was aggressive, focused and able to get pressure most of the night. They wore out near the end though.

On the other hand, there were still numerous lapses in coverage, and plays where Brady had all day.

The D still has a ton of young players that play like young players. They are good one play, make a mistake the next. The fact that they are having more good plays than earlier in the season is a good sign. But there is no guarantee that they will continue to improve.

The offense was very sloppy. That happens playing the #1 defense, in a short week, missing your top 3 weapons, and a windy night. Jones is learning, but there were few too many "teaching moments".
Encouraging is a bit of a stretch
djm : 10/11/2019 4:14 pm : link
But I do wonder if the D has finally turned a corner.

Jones didn’t what I expected him to do in that spot. He showed flashes and also turned the ball over.

The D needs to turn a corner now. Don’t tease.
I hope it continues this way

This has been the most uplifting football by this org of all time.
