We needed more motion last night

Zeke's Alibi : 10/11/2019 12:12 pm
DJ threw that pick throwing to Ellison because they were showing man and dropped into Cover 2. There was a noticeable lack of motion yesterday, PS needs to do a better job helping out his rookie QB. Didn't realize it at time, but when I rewatched the play the routes made no sense against a zone look.

Still not sure why DJ went there, he has too much faith in his guys. Gotta recognize where the obvious mismatches are.

DJ hooked up on that same play earlier in that series.....and assumed same result but defense made a shuttle change..that DJ did not see

even a vet has trouble identifying shuttle changes

skill players. Ours were hurt and didn’t play.
Do you think motion would have fooled a Belichick coached defense?

.
not that it would fool the defense
Dave : 10/11/2019 2:34 pm : link
but it exposes to the offense what the defense is actually going to do, no?

It helps identify between man and zone. Which is why that interception happened

near the play. Not sure what DJ was seeing. But the CB was right on top of Ellison. Guess he didn't look.

High safety presnap, then both safeties played deep which indicates the corners will be under because they have help deep.

This is what I don't get it. Even though he thought it was man, you are going to Ellison against a corner?
Going to Ellison unless he's wide open
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/11/2019 7:52 pm : link
Is generally a bad idea. He's not exactly going to lunge into the air and drag down a catch with his eagle like talons.

And there is minimal motion so there is less for DJ8 to process, he's not Peyton Manning. Also he has a tendency to runout the clock like young Eli.
I am sure you

are an expert on NFL playcalling. Shouldn't you be getting ready for Sunday instead of posting on here.

I'll tell you this much. This 3rd interception made no fucking sense schematically against a zone look. It was a smash concept and you had the WRs running in breaking routes into coverage. The WR needs to sit it down so the corner needs to make a decision and not cheat on the corner route.

I'm not convinced they thought it was man either because why the fuck would you go to Ellison against Gilmore there. It was a shitty play schematically, a shitty route, a shitty pass, and a shitty decision. None of this play made sense at all. Hopefully DJ understands when things don't make sense post snap, just go to your checkdown and live to fight another day. Hopefully he learns how to do that, but it was an issue at Duke as well.

High school, college, NFL. The game doesn't change, it just gets faster and the looks get more exotic, but the fundamentals don't change.
Yes I'm glad you went back and took another look at this, because this
PatersonPlank : 10/12/2019 10:26 am : link
is what I saw too. Most were saying it was a poor route by Ellison, it wasn't. Granted it could have be sharper, but the fact is that the route he had to run brought him right into the cb. No way that ball gets thrown, and Jones knows this. Its not like its a secret or a slam on Jones. It was a rookie mistake against the best D Coordinator in football (and I mean BB). He probably took a note on the earlier completion and when he saw the same look slightly changed the D to trap him
Rewatching it the All 22 camera angle, no doubt DJ thought
Zeke's Alibi : 10/12/2019 11:13 am : link
it was man there. He recognizes that Ellison has big outside leverage against the LB so it makes sense to go to him, but nothing about the LB's drop said man. To add to that it was a shitty throw, and I think he recognized it too late and got hesitant causing an underthrow.

DJ needs to do better there, and it seems to be a problem with these braniac QB's. They trust their pre snap reads too much, Fitzpatrick has the same problem which is probably why he always comes in and has a few good games, than teams do things schematically to confuse him. Not saying DJ is going to end up like Fitzpatrick because his arm talent is waay better, but it was a problem with him at Duke according to the scouting reports.
