Next 4 games before the break...

Cards, @ Lions, Cowboys, "@" Jets.

If we get the horses back-Saquon, Engram, etc.-I don't see any reason why we can't win any of those games, Dallas included at home on MNF. I'm not counting on Shepard because I expect him to be out awhile with that 2nd concussion.

A 5-5 record @ the bye is totally reasonable.

Gotta believe baby!

I'm not ready to wave the white flag on this season just yet.

vets like Ogletree and Jenkins for whatever.

Cards don't scare me. the Lions do. they've played hard this year despite the tie game with the Cards week 1.

it'd be great coming out 2-0 from those games going into the Dallas game healthy at 4-4
Dallas?
M.S. : 10/11/2019 1:06 pm : link

Are you kidding me?

And what is it about our defense that makes you think we can stop the #1 offense in the NFL that's averaging 462 yards per game?

Our defense is #31, letting up an average of 412 yards per game.

They should be able to beat the Cards and Jets
Greg from LI : 10/11/2019 1:10 pm : link
Should being the operative word. Doubt they beat the Lions and almost certain they don't have a prayer against Dallas.
Giants have always played the Boys tough
TMS : 10/11/2019 1:25 pm : link
no matter the spread over the years. The exact opposite against the Eagles is also true. We are still alive if we keep getting improvement from this young, tough, talented group that does not quit. Keep the faith.
If they can beat the Cards and Jets
Dave in PA : 10/11/2019 1:30 pm : link
That would be about where I expect this team to be progress wise. They aren’t beating Detroit on the road and Dallas, lets just forget about beating Dallas until next year at the earliest. 2-2 during this stretch is “good”. 1-3 is bad but not unexpected I guess. 0-4 and it’s time to consider if this coach can be counted on going forward to get the job done that needs to get done.
anyone see the Dallas game Sunday?

Point blank period!
Agree.
Dave in Hoboken : 10/11/2019 2:11 pm : link
But we have to get Barkley and Engram back. I agree with you about Shep, probably out a long time with his second concussion in a short period of time. But there is no reason to not get Barkley and Engram back, especially with Barkley's supposed super human healing skills.

The wheels were coming off for the Vikings too. The Giants are a get-healthy game for good teams.

After 6 games
We lost on road to Pats and Dallas - not unexpected
We won at Tampa and beat Redskins - not unexpected
I had hoped we would split with Vikings and Bills.

The best we could have reasonably hoped for was 4-2. The realistic target was 3-3. We are 2-4. I agree with the OP that the next 4 games (including Dallas) are winnable. I think we need to go 3-1 to be in contention.

As far as expectations - the defense is improving, we are getting some players back (Barkley, Gallman, Shepard, Engram, Beal).

I would be very disappointed with 1-3. I expect 2-2, which would essentially end any playoff hopes. 3-1 is very possible. 4-0 is not out of the question but I am not thinking we are consistent enough to play good in 4 straight games.
0-4!

To be in contention

(playoffs? playoffs?) Giants are going to have to beat either Dallas or Philly out of a spot.

Two wild cards are not coming from the NFCE, no way, no how.

And it's looking very questionable whether a 9-7 team will make a wild card in the NFC this year.

4-0 or, at the least, 3-1 with a win over Dallas for NYG to be in contention, given the schedule after the bye.

(playoffs? playoffs?)

When I rewatched the Cowboys game I came away with the distinct impression we could have won if it weren't for Bethea, Ogletree, Antonio Hamilton, and Eli. 2 of those 4 are gone and hopefully Bethea joins their ranks by the time we get there.
Dallas

Has owned us for while. Some of the scores from what look close games were not close at all. Their D is very athletic, difficult match up for us.

Im feeling the same ..
Until we are healthy were gonna have trouble moving
the ball . I like what our defense did last night
and Ogletree with 12 tackles and a sack was good to have him
back Mayo with 13 tackles and a half sack played
his ass off and packed a punch great game for him .
Baker is getting more confident Lawrence is becoming
a force Golden great pick up . I hope they add Buckannon
give them some flexability in moving Bethea out of
the FS position ,

Cards and Giants in similar tiers statistically. The fact that the Cards have to cross the country makes us favorites but there’s a very real possibility this will be a tight competitive game. No reason to count this as an easy win.

The Jets are in a different sphere of suckitude. That’s a win. Beating the Lions would be a pretty big upset.

And go from there. Nothing wrong with 3-4 but the giants need to win that game.

I look at it this way, win the layups and then find a way to steal 1-2 games against the upper remaining on the schedule. Big if but that gets you to 8-8 with some enjoyable moments.
There are no layups for this team

The Jets won't be an easy win with Darnold. I don't even think Darnold is great, but there's a massive, massive difference between he and Falk. The Jets looked at least decent against Buffalo. Once Darnold went down, that was it though.

Luke Falk was utterly hopeless. They would have went 0-16 with him.

We can and should beat Arizona. That's a game I need to see us win to validate the idea that we're at least trending upwards a bit. If we lose that game and this season is just going to be one step forward, one step backwards - then the coach should probably lose his job. Fair or not.

I do think 2-2 is reasonable to expect over the next 4 games. 3-1 would be wonderful, but I'd be surprised.

3-1 is probably necessary to make our season 'interesting'

Well they have won two of them thus far. 2-2. Hope it continues. Getting a live body back on offense wouldn’t hurt.

Really only one “layup”

The skins game. Every other game the giants have played this season has been against a decent or good or great team. Color me shocked.
Cowboys borderline good
LakeGeorgeGiant : 10/11/2019 6:52 pm : link
not great. Little more than a 500 team right now. "No chance" of beating the Cowboys is an idiotic suggestion.

For years now I've been trying to figure out why this board consistently has such an overinflated view of the Cowboys.

Probably has something to do with our recent record against them.

Could go 3-1 - not unreasonable-- for sure.

Though the Giants are a bad team.

Bad teams lose many games "they could've won." As for Pats game let's not get carried away with the defense. They are still an enormous - enormous enormous question.

They are just as likely to go 1-3 as they are 3-1.
