Some Thoughts

George from PA : 10/12/2019 9:16 am
Am I the only that was not impressed with NE offense? Brady is looking old. Running game is meh...OL is not great.
I hope not but I am not sure, the Giants defense was the cause

Now, NE secondary looks like best ever. I understand a ton of grabs, tugs and general "uncalled" PIs, but my take is much like when an OLmen can grab and hold when engaged upclose with defenders....same goes with the DBacks. as long as they wrap the WR like blanket....they get some liberties. All I know, I wish our guys did the the same. Very impressive.

I also hope that was rust on G.Tate....

4 games so far for DJ and although his 1st game was his best and last was his worst...I feel good about his prospects. Love the accountability..taking full responsibility for the mistakes. Not accepting moral victories....he has the attitude of a winner in this league. Outside of Mahomes, I cant be happier.

Are people still complaining about picking Barkley and Jones? I do not get it.

I am not sure how great the Giants coaches are? But I think we can win with them.....and not sure what the big deal in NE. The 4th & 2?

Outside of playing Stupar and Bethea....2 guys that should never see the field and go like Hilliman,

I would doubt they make major coaching changes....but the Arizona game....will be a defining game. A must win.....or this season becomes a major shitshow.

I want to see a full Barkley/Jones game....but please do not rush Barkley back.....i hope picking up Allen....will have them play it safe. Barkley had a high ankle sprain at Penn St.....we do not want it to become a cronic issue.

Offseason

3 immediate needs
A stud Edge
A stud MLB
A rangy centerfield FS

And

Developmental LT,RT and center.
George: Not sure what you were expecting from NE offense
Ivan15 : 10/12/2019 9:27 am : link
Except when they have a great WR, this is how they play. This is how the Giants offense should look too. That is how you win consistently.

Get yourself to third and short, then convert.

Everyone knows the Giants greatest needs. The only difference is how long the wish list will be in July 2020 after free agency and the draft.

"immediate needs", I would list offensive tackle(s).

Tall order for one offseason.

STARTING offensive tackles.
If they keep Golden,
section125 : 10/12/2019 9:49 am : link
that is one VG OLB/ER. I expect Carter and Ximines to be good.
I'd put OT's as priority. ILB is another. Mayo and Ogletree looked VG the other night, but having seen the speed that some teams have a ILB makes me envious.

Some of the more knowledgeable people think Halapio is not doing the job and it could be that Remmers and Solder are so bad that it masks Halapio. So center may be a big need.
This team needs to invest
Jay on the Island : 10/12/2019 9:59 am : link
a high pick on an OT. IMO they should draft another developmental type on Day 3 unless they are high on Nick Gates as a potential option at RT. Solder will be back because of his contract but they need to add another player as insurance in case his performance continues to slip.
One of the better threads I’ve seen in awhile
Dave on the UWS : 10/12/2019 10:02 am : link
Agree with everything said. What I will add, is some of the “solutions” maybe internal. Love might be the answer at FS. Connelly looked like he might be an answer inside. Beal will be back after the Lion’s game. Let’s see if he and Ballantine can improve the CB position ( upgrading from Haley).
One big issue, is their are no “possible “ upgrades for OT and C on this roster. And they need 3 upgrades there. I would think that the 1st rd pick next year has to be either OT, ILB or ER - someone who can make a MAJOR difference. It’s possible Gettleman can get this all done, but developing the young talent from the last two years is still the major focus.
Jacksonville’s young defense sucked, until they didn’t. Hope for the same thing here.
DG has shown to know how to find OLmen
George from PA : 10/12/2019 10:39 am : link
Personally, I think the Giants can live another year with the OL....if they are forced too. Go find a RT in FA. Draft looks loaded with OLmen for once

But

The Defense need immediate help.

Even if they keep M.Golden with Xmen abd Carter....a stud edge is a priority....they need a wave of guys.

"Never have enough pass rushers"

I love what I have seen from Connerly. But this team still needs a captain in the middle.

Sure maybe Love, Beal and Balentine....might be that rangy centerfield FS.

Can DG find 6 starters next year? Seems like too much to ask...

Little Bill laid a trap
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/12/2019 10:40 am : link
And Shurmoar waltzed right into it. Muddy up the wco timing short passing with disguised zone or man and clingy coverage. What can you say, DJ8 went against a D that is wound up to shut down Mahomes and LA offense.

Good to see our D look more like a live wire, but NE usually gets by on offense with quick passes, not sure why it didn't entirely work on Giants D, probably caught them off keel.
I don't see a huge need for ILB
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/12/2019 10:46 am : link
Connolly, Mayo and Ogltree, meh. A role player $backer passing down ILB maybe, but Peppers should work, which of course highlights our need for safety.
And of course
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/12/2019 10:51 am : link
Tanney taking up a roster spot makes it harder to get a specialist role player on the roster.

The OL can be fixed in FA if things break right.
We don’t have need developmental OL
Rick in Dallas : 10/12/2019 11:05 am : link
We need to draft mauling starting OL otherwise we waste the talent of Saquon and DJ.
Can you imagine what Saquon could do behind a good mauling OL??
We have tried to fix OL through FA
Rick in Dallas : 10/12/2019 11:19 am : link
We need to draft our future starters for OL
Solder and Remmers are meh free agents signed last 2 years.
Still have lots of needs
upnyg : 10/12/2019 11:19 am : link
Agree with original post, but really could use a new starting Tackle on either side. Maybe even a better center.

Day 3 players are long shots to become good starters. Gettleman has a history of finding OL without using premium picks on them. Trai Turner was a 3rd, Daryl Williams a 4th round pick, Andrew Norwell UDFA, and Remmers UDFA signed from the Rams PS. This team needs a talent infusion on the offensive line but they also have holes at ILB, OLB, FS, WR, TE, and C.
Belichick.

BB believes in building the most talented 53, not the most talented 5. In a game where it is pretty much a war of attrition it is just another phase where he is already ahead of everyone else.
I would add to the needs list towards the top
ChicagoMarty : 10/12/2019 11:43 am : link
Wr who is big enough and fast enough to gain separation on his own!
The OL rebuild needs a rebuild
jcn56 : 10/12/2019 11:45 am : link
That was priority, that's where most of the resources in FA were applied as well as a high draft pick, and they're only marginally better off than they were two seasons ago.

So right now, you need both OTs and at least one edge rusher - arguably the hardest positions to fill after QB. Fantastic.

To add to your WR need, one who can win some 50/50 balls.

Remmers was always a stop gap signing. Giants should go hard after Conklin in FA.

I’d look to the draft for a center and a LT to potentially start in 2021.

Absolutely fair and I believe, accurate assessment.
The needs are many
RickInCharlotte : 10/12/2019 12:05 pm : link
The 2019 draft yielded 4/5 starters (Jones, Dex, Baker, Connelly, Slayton). Say Beal returns, stays healthy and displaces Jenkins, Connelly returns to form, Engram somehow remains healthy and Shepherd's concussions aren't career-ending. Say the 2020 draft does the same as 2019 (which would be exceptional): new starters at Edge, ILB, RT, FS, Nickel.

If that's the ideal, then the Giants have the foundation on which to succeed for years and it is super young. The only players with 4 or more years experience would be Sheperd, Tate, Engram, Solder, Zeitler, Ellison and Tomlinson.

At that point, I hope the Giants can be a perennial contender.

With respect to FA, DG is going to need the $ to extend these players to preserve that foundation. If he spends top dollar on anyone I'll be surprised. A second Barkley contract alone will skew the allocation significantly. I think he'll sign more Markus Golden-type "bridge" players to be replaced by draft picks. I see LT and WR1 as top priorities in the 2021 draft.

Miss on the 2020 draft, lose Beal, Connelly, Engram, Sheperd to injuries and who knows how long it will take to excel.
Some of our needs will have to come in FA. If we expect to draft
Blue21 : 10/12/2019 12:25 pm : link
5 rookies to fill needs then in the first 5 rounds to start then we'll be in the same boat next year. And we still don't know what we got in Beal.

Belichick believes in building the most talented 1+52=53. The ONE is Brady, who is not ALMOST unimportant, but is ALL important.

the Pats offense to me looks avg. They just throw short range passes that said there defense is much imoroved. So the Pats don't need to score as much these days.
