certainty about an individual they've never examined, much less if they know anything about the medical field.
Well usually you can glean a picture from the injury and what the practice reports say. He was limited in practice this week. I'd say its 50/50 he goes in Arizona, but we will get a clearer picture next week.

I get it. I was just having a little fun.
I mean I agree with you, the absolute certainty people speak with is Â
Where did anyone say he was definitely playing or not? I said that I expected him to be good because he was limited in practice last week and now has 10 days to rest. I don't think he will be 100% but I am hopeful he will give it a go.

If he practiced limited already that's usually a good sign. With another week he may be ready to give it a go.

He's not serious. He's just poking fun at people like me who take exception to posters making RECOMMENDATIONS as to when a football player should return to action... as in, "I'd sit Barkley for at least two more games, just to be sure."
There's no issue with people making PREDICTIONS as to when a player WILL return... but it's kind of dumb to make recommendations on when said player SHOULD return, unless you are a Giants' trainer or the player's doctor.

I agree that suggesting a player SHOULD return is ridiculous. It's not smart to rush back from injury especially during a non-playoff season. It would be nice to have a long stretch where we have at least Barkley and Engram healthy at the same time.

I can't speak for others, but I've suggested that a player should return when the doctors and team trainer(s) clear him to play, and the coaches and the player himself feel he should return.
Crazy suggestion I know. When a player is cleared to play the team should probably take a poll first to make sure the fans think it's a good idea.
Jim the issue with that is being cleared to play in the NFL is way Â
different than the rest of the medical world. In the NFL they clear guys to play when the risk/reward proposition becomes acceptable and if they think he can be effective. Two weeks after spraining and MCL I would say there is likely to still be instability in the knee.
Now I'm sure he'll be cleared and they will look at this as a must win game because in reality it is. If they lose to Arizona they can kiss any playoff chance goodbye. I actually think SB may have been cleared for the Pats, but they were looking towards Arizona as the must win game and rather have him closer to fully healthy. Washington Post had an article about this some years back.
There are cases where the BBI medical staff is a little assertive when they know diddly about the particulars, but the case Jim is referencing isn't one of them.

You're making a lot of assumptions based on general knowledge from an article you read, but with no specific "inside" medical info on either EE and SB.
You THINK Barkley may have cleared to play versus the Pats, but you don't actually know.
You THINK the Giants choose to hold Barkley out of the Pats game because they'd rather have him "fully healthy" for the AZ game...but you don't know that either.
You're speculating...and that's fine. But as soon as you or any other fan starts actually recommending when THEY think a player should return to action...it's just dumb.
I can guarantee it though that leading up to the AZ game some BBIers are going to continue to post that Barkley and/or EE should be held out of that game too. You know...just to be sure.
Jay answered it to best of his ability. Why give him grief?
Not sure why having a sports discussion is considered giving someone "grief" but if you insist on that lable, my grief was intended for SFGFNC Giants fan.
He seemed to be suggesting that there were people on this site who were saying that other posters shouldn't make PREDICTIONS on when they think a player will return, when they haven't examined the player and aren't in the medical field.
Except not a single poster suggested that someone needed medical training or first-hand knowledge of the player's injury to simply make a prediction as to when the player would return.
Everyone on BBI makes football predictions.
There were however a number of posters, myself included, who suggested that all those "I would hold him out for another week just to be sure" recommendations, were kind of dumb.
And FYI, the answer to the OP's question (Does anyone have an update on EE Injury and timeline?) is no. No one has an actual update.
2 weeks would be the minimum for his injury.
