Interesting stuff...
“I feel like I played long enough to have learned the game and I do feel I have a lot of things I can contribute to the clubhouse,’’ Beltran said on the field at Minute Maid Park before the Yankees faced the Astros in Game 2 of the ALCS. “Yes, the experience is not there because I have not done it. But I believe it’s something that with the opportunity, I can learn.”
“I don’t think you can continue to progress in life if you think about the past,’’ Beltran said. “For me, what happened with the Mets, there were ups and downs, the perception of what the fans thought about me, for me, I’m able to turn that page. After 2011, I showed people I was healthy and could play the game and the negative things said about me, that’s not who I am as a person."

What's the reason to have confidence he would be a long-term success? Seems far more likely that they'll be in the exact same spot 2 years from now, looking for a new manager if they hire him.

it's all probably a massive smoke screen, find the cheap yes man, go through the charade of interviewing the expensive big names and up and coming young names and settle for oatmeal.
Anyone have any insight as to why they'd do this?

Just saw this... WTF.
Manager would have no say on the minor league managers. This is a Brodie/ownership decision

When Brooklyn had a managerial opening after the 2016 season, I'll admit that I questioned whether Alfonzo was the best man for the job. Three years later (and after witnessing two of them up close) I was wrong for having any doubts.
If anything, he should have been promoted.

I was hoping that even though Brodie didn't have any experience that the trade off would be someone with more common sense and a clue about business affairs in general and he would help change the direction of the organization.
Of course without knowing specifics who can know for sure, but this smacks of the tone deaf kind of move this organization has become known for.
I was all for firing Callaway but with each passing day I'm more convinced they're going to botch the hire of his replacement.

It's crazy isn't it. They just can't seem to get out of their own way, and so far Brodie hasn't seem to change that.

Always about the $$$ with this club.
Meanwhile, last 3 teams standing are all big spenders.
