I did not mind the signing in the beginning. he was a good player. two way DE's are not a dime a dozen
I admit I loved the initial signing. OV was young and coming off an incredible 1/2 season in Miami. Coincidence- Just a few days ago I too looked up OV and was happy to see that he didn't magically turn into a beast.
The only issue was that the Giants paid him like he was a great one.
Desperation signing by Reese that actually came reasonably close to working out.
Yep - we've spent money on much worse players.
Vernon was actually fantastic in 2016. Really good year from him. Just a lot of injuries and stuff that hampered him and he never totally broke out the way I think Reese was hoping he would.
Winding up with Zeitler is a fine 'consolation' prize for me.
is the Eli Apple for 4th and 7th rounder. Apple is a much better player than Baker. I don't think Baker has the physical traits to be anything more than an average CB, and certainly doesn't look worthy of being a first rounder. But the other trades have looked pretty good. Snacks has been awful in Detroit, Vernon eh in Cleveland. Beckham has not been a game changer in Cleveland.
The only issue was that the Giants paid him like he was a great one.
Exactly, I'm sure the thought was that he was going to become great. I liked the signing at the time, but he sure did have trouble staying on the field. Hindsight is 20/20, but I'm glad they moved him.

Exactly how I feel. As many threads as there have been on Vernon the far more crippling moves over the years were guys like Schwartz and Beason who literally never played and weren't even that good when they did play. Reese screwed the pooch long before BBI turned so salty and scorned, I guess that's why everyone became so salty and scorned.
The only issue was that the Giants paid him like he was a great one.
And even as a “good” player I would have been fine with the contract if he could just stay on the field or be healthy enough to perform at HIS top efficiency

Baker has played 6 games in the NFL at one of the hardest positions to transition from college. Give it a fucking rest.

and, quite frankly, has gotten better each week. IMV, he is as good as Apple only 1/2 season in.
And I said so. Cutting him and taking that cap hit while getting nothing in return would have been tough to swallow even if the cut was a wise move. The fact we got Zietler and virtually paved the way for the Beckham deal validated this trade big time.

But Apple was a head case. Maybe he has matured but at the time his behavior lowered his value. I agree he has way better tools than Bskrt

Seriously, this is arguable, if not just wrong. It can be argued that Apple is the only weak player on a really good Saints defense.
I bet smh!! What crime off the field did Vernon commit?? I'm glad him and Beckham are gone because it's not like they helped us win but this off field shit is nonsense.
Vernon was most definitely never ''fantastic'' as a Giant Â
even in 2016. Go back and read some of Eric's reviews in 2016 (or watch highlights from the Packers game) where he notes how invisible Vernon was. Shoulder (IIRC?) injury early on, to be fair. Not much better as the year went on, certainly not "fantastic".
Fans of a team with D-lineman like Strahan, Tuck, Linval, 2011 JPP (to say nothing of the 80s players...) should be able to recognize what a "fantastic" D-lineman is. I would even take 2008 hand in dirt Kiwanuka over Vernon. He had some bigtime sacks that year in Osi's stead...2.5 in that epic @ Pittsburgh win.
Terrible signing from a desperate GM. That contract was obscene. Although it is continually hilarious that several of BBI's robotic mental slugs take issue more with his (non-violent) activism on the sideline than his ineffectual play on the field. His father, by the way, was 25 year Miami PD so OV probably could offer a fairly nuanced & compelling interpretation of the issue he (again, non-violently) brought light upon.

Exactly I disliked the guy because of his underperformance. His Protest didn't break any laws and the fact that his dad is cop says enough for me. I used to be a huge football fan but knowing how bigoted the NFL fans are turned me off. There was no place for a political protest not the NFL time I agree but the only reason most NFL fans were pissed off was because of what the protest was about.

Olivier Vernon is the No. 20 ranked EDGE defender in the #NFL, according to
@pff
. Vernon has 15 tackles, one sack and a 76.4 overall grade. #Giants' highest-ranked EDGE is Lorenzo Carter at No. 55 with a 66.1 grade.
oh, we're on to the stage where we're flailing about Â

Right out of Arrested Development.
The guy simply doesn’t make enough plays to be anywhere near his salary.
He’ll lose you plenty of games as well — see Dallas last year and niners this year off the top of my head.

I hope he got some sort of reprimand for that.

Vernon is not a coach killer. May be a GM killer though.
provides a good laugh.
My thoughts exactly.

On your way out of the thread, please set the BBI toggle for PFF to 'it sucks'. It was on 'look what PFF said!' yesterday.
7 assists
5 sacks
7 assists
5 sacks
But he has a shitty PFF grade so he must suck
