Athletic: Halapio on preparing for Thurs Night Football

Giantophile : 10/14/2019 12:17 pm
I know it's a subscription but the Athletic has some really interesting articles.

This one shows how much these guys have to do to their bodies just to get ready to play an NFL game. Also shows why Thursday night football is bullshit.

Worth checking out the link if you subscribe.

Halapio played all 69 offensive snaps in the Giants’ 28-10 home loss to the Vikings on Sunday. Almost immediately after that game ended, Halapio turned his focus to preparing for the Patriots game, just 100 hours away.

Actually, the prep started before the Vikings game. Halapio’s wife had gone to Stop & Shop to buy eight 10-pound bags of ice for a homemade postgame cold tub. After stopping to get dinner, Halapio went home and filled his bathtub with the ice.

Halapio on TNF - ( New Window )
Thursday night football is a terrible idea

And halapio is going to need a lot more than ice to survive the mediocre ball he's playing this season.
What crap

Every NFL OL/DL has to do these things to play not just Halapio. The problem is lack of talent. Halapio is not a starting Center in the NFL. This lack of talent is why Halapio has bounce around the NFL. Hopefully in next draft the Giants find a quality Center
Maybe if he stops ducking his head right before the fucking snap...

the D line doesn't get a jump on the ball.

Uhhhh...yeah, that's the point of the article. Every player has to take extreme measures to play a game so closely to their previous game. As a league so "concerned" with player safety, the NFL sure doesn't seem to give a shit that a bunch of exhausted behemoths have to put their bodies through insane regiments just to play in such a short period of recovery.

What does his (lack of) talent have to do with the stupidity of TNF, wrt to players' health?
Was a very good read

Yeah

I think some people are misinterpreting it. I'm not saying Halapio is special, just cool to see an inside look at what these guys do to prepare. It just happens to be Halapio they follow for the article, sheesh.
I guess some

do not NFL as close as others or even pro sports in general. Players who play at the highest level do this in the NHL,NBA and MLB. Willis Reed put himself threw hell, as did Shaq, Nolan Ryan, Ronnie Lott,Steve Yzerman, Jack Youngblood, Y.A. Tittle, and Bobby Baun. I'm sure there are many here who could name other player like Mickey Mantle
And on ESPN.com there's a long article on

sleep deprivation in the NBA. I'm ambivalent. On the one hand, they're getting paid zillions, but on the other hand, it must stink to have to play when you're on running on fumes physically and mentally.

The NBA, NHL, and MLB seasons are far too long, even for fans.
