Question about the Offensive line?

Archer : 10/14/2019 12:24 pm
In watching football this weekend I noticed that there are some teams (i.e. GB Packers) that use large splits between the offensive linemen.
Then there are some who use very tight formations ( i.e. the Giants).

I have seen both formations used with power blocking and zone blocking.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of one formation vs the other.

It does appear that the wide formation allows the OTs a better angle when dealing with an edge rusher and opens more interior running lanes.

Green Bay hasn't played this weekend?

.
Wide splits create natural gaps in the defense.

It makes it tougher on OL because there is more room for the defense to maneuver but the defenders are also farther from the QB. It can give the defender a true 2 way go on an OL. Tighter splits allow other OL to help out especially on stunts but the defenders are closer to the QB and the pocket is smaller.
OL is mediocre

And is built upon a bunch of old guys. Hernandez is the only building block and he is decent but not great
