"I don't want to get into a ... feud with Daryl but I believe he wasn't educated about the situation at hand and he spoke," James said Monday, ahead of the Lakers preseason game against the Golden State Warriors. "So many people could have been harmed, not only financially, but physically, emotionally, spiritually. Just be careful what we tweet and we say and we do, even though, yes, we do have freedom of speech. But there can be a lot of negative that comes with that too."
Shorter LBJ: 'I'm more concerned with $ than human rights & freedom.'
What a weak ass comment from LBJ. Really disappointed with him.

....he talks about issues in this country which affect his friends, family, and fellow citizens. He's certainly allowed to do that and has a platform for it.
Should he be speaking out about what's going on in China, it certainly would be more consistent with his actions no doubt.
He certainly shouldn't "shut up and dribble", but take a more tactful approach to what China is doing to its people.
But I gotta agree that LeBron's first interest should be what this country is doing in regards to his platform.
To be clear, Lebron doesn't need to speak out about every human right violation in the world. He is free to focus on specific things in this country. No one is criticizing him for that.
What he is being criticized for is telling someone else who spoke out about a human rights is that they should shut up about it because he has a financial stake in the people violating those human rights.
Mike, gotcha and totally agree.

Exactly... Can anyone find me a quote or statement where Lebron said he was for Freedom worldwide? Just one... He speaks on, the ills and inequalities here in the USA. These guys know that before you can tell others how to live, you better have your own house in order.
I'm fine with stating for the record that I don't care about Freedom in China, Iraqi babies, Syrian refugees or any other international cause that people are up in arms about. I do care about vets living in the streets, inequality in the courts and American babies.
Because for the 4th time, before we can tell others how to live, we better have our shit in order, and unfortunately we don't right now.
The hypocrisy is thick and nauesating. The Hong Kong rebels wave old glory and sing the national anthem as if anyone in this country gives a rat's for their troubles or the principal of individual liberty which the US is supposedly built on. We don't teach this in school or with our popular media anymore, quite the opposite.
Perhaps at the next NBA event in China the league can celebrate their relationship with China by playing a video of Hong Kong dissidents being brutalized, or Uyghur muslims being sterilized, re-educated and beaten to ensure no dissident thoughts. I thought diversity was a strength and the holy grail of social progress for which to strive for? Quick, tell Lebron to tweet the CCP to remind them, they seem to want a monolithic culture which brooks no dissent.
Way to bend the knee NBA. Dont worry, I doubt Lebron will lose any sleep in his mansion safe in a gated community.
What a time.
AMEN

Lebron did not tell Morey to shut up. He said Morey didn't fully understand the issue, and before Morey or anyone else decides to delve into a sensitive issue like Hong Kong with a tweet(140 characters), that person should consider the possible financial, physical, spiritual and cultural ramifications of his actions.
At no point did Lebron tell him not to discuss the issue, or shut up. Now the NBA might have told Morey to shut up, but Lebron's statement in no way says he can't or should not talk.
What he is being criticized for is telling someone else who spoke out about a human rights is that they should shut up about it because he has a financial stake in the people violating those human rights.
That sums it up fairly well.

Then for the 4th time you are still wrong. If that is your standard for participation, then we need to call all of our people home and ignore the rest of the world's problems. (Which in all honesty I am not against but for different reasons than yours)
I also think he is catching slack b/c of his stance for Kap and how he stood up for injustice, while both men were still receiving payment from Nike. If he agreed with Kap, he might agree with the Chinese people and their struggle. Sounds like Lebron is the one uneducated on the situation and clearly cares more about the financial impact it is having on him
He waited so long to say something and this bs is what he decides to say?
Enes Kanter seems to be one of the few players who is actually calling LeBron out and standing up for what’s right. Good for him.
No matter what, LeBron would’ve looked like a hypocrite because of the Nike connection. But he went above and beyond with this comment.
And yeah, if I can buy something not made in China, I will.
TDS is high. Reminds me of the mindset of ANTIFA. Protest fake fascists, act like fascists and wimp out when confronting the real fascists.

And why are you just assuming that Lebron has a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the issues at play than Morey to the extent that he needs to step in and help Morey?
You are being purposefully obtuse.

Yea Lebron James understands geopolitical affairs better than Morey.
F Lebron. His true colors are showing.

I don’t think anyone said he does.
Reading between the lines, LeBron’s concern actually seems to stem from the fact that the Nets and Lakers were put in an immensely shitty situation because Morey couldn’t keep his trap shut for one more week. Players weren’t sure if they were safe or going to get to fly home, etc.
We are all being a bit hypocritical though. The number of us who frequently say things like ‘stick to sports’ or ‘worry about your own country’ when athletes, sports journalists or non-native US citizens comment on US political issues is sky high.
I can see why native Chinese people are upset about what they perceive as external influence. People on both sides in the US would get in a huff in a similar situation. I can also understand why these circumstances are unique and require non-natives to speak on the behalf of an oppressed minority.

James = possibly the most outrageous, most extreme, blending of arrogance with ignorance that we have seen this century.
But wait , I should curb my tongue, and mind my mop bucket , also probably keep my eyes down, "yes, mam, no sir, thank you 'guvnah, "
Because us little folks down here just don't have the experience or sophistication to comment, we should just keep cleaning Mr. James' silk sheets, thank you, and be more informed about how much Mr. James lost on his next shoe deal.

Exactly. I don't really know how it's "political" to be disgusted by a bunch of fabulously wealthy NBA fatcats bowing and scraping before a murderous dictatorship because said dictatorship vaults them from stupid rich to mega stupid rich.
^This.
+1000 Well said plain and simple. You don’t need to bring anyone else into this with what-about-isms
me Sick and MJ was better !
He has the nerve to Quote MLK about being silent in the face
of wrong then does the exact opposite .
And fuck the NBA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most die-hard fans around the league appreciate LeBron’s skills but mostly look at him as a villain already. I’d hope fans give him hell around the league. Maybe at his school the history books won’t have such a thing as Cultural Revolution in China.
A few months ago there was a small hubbub over the Neil Armstrong movie not showing the American flag, with some whispers that it was cause of Chinese influence. I didn’t really pay that much attention but in retrospect that now seems like a much bigger deal than I realized.

There are very few things DC can agree on. Both sides leadership are pushing the trade talks and telling you know who to not relent or give in. Think about that. Both sides.
China has been screwing the world for decades and I believe still hold favored nation status, IIRC. They are still considered a developing nation in the UN. Cripes even their surrogates in Viet Nam want us to squelch them.
They have flooded the market with mold ridden drywall, manufactured baby formula with melamine particles, are sending fentanyl here, stealing patented trade secrets and underselling the companies that created the products under patent. They are spying on everyone through Huawei, trying to corner the market on 5G(so they can spy) manipulating their currency to keep their products cheaper, attempting to steal the South China sea from adjacent countries with true territorial water rights so they can steal the mineral under the sea. They think that building a man made island gives them the territorial waters of the entire South China sea, claiming it is their historical territory.
During the HK protests they have state intelligence taking pictures of the leaders and participants so that once they squash the protestors they can grab all the leaders and make them disappear.
LeBron and the NBA are no better or different than any other corporation - the almighty dollar comes first and social justice is a buzzword to be used when it doesn't compromise the financial well being of said enterprise. LeBron said people could get hurt from the tweet. Well people are already being hurt in the streets of Hong Kong while LeBron is holed up in his 5 star hotel far from the protests and the NBA kowtows to Xi Jinping.
Recall this is the same clown who with Marie Antoinette did a big Cuba visit. My wife’s family fled that dictatorship. One of my best friends Dad was about an hour away from a firing squad in Cuba. Maybe he can inform me about that paradise who regularly forces children into the sex trade for tourism too.
Yeah. Great guy. . .
Boycott.
Boycott.
Boycott.
Rich at 6:30 mark of the video reads what would have been a much better received message/response than the hypocritical nonsense bullshit that Lebron stated/tweeted because he doesn't want to lose financial benefits of NBA in China.
