NFT: Yanks talk: Not game thread

Boone to use all relievers in game 4? I read that somewhere and want to see if it’s true. Who would be the opener? Happ? CC?

How is Stanton’s quad injury? Will play? If not can he be replaced on the roster already? I’d rather have another 1B than a hurt OF.

Thoughts?

I will try to find the article

I think Green starts

with CC to follow. May be the reason he pulled Green at 26 pitches for Ottavino in the 5th. Green was dealing.

Stanton - I just don't know what is the deal. Hurt his knee rounding 2nd, then a quad running out a grounder. I'd wait it out for now. Next most logical choice is Voit??

that they weren't able to capitalize and steal game 2.

Today feels like a must-win game against a pitcher who is 18-0 since May and has given up more than 2 runs in a game just once in that time frame. Hopefully Severino is at the top of his game.

At this juncture, I like Mike Ford over Voit. He's a lefty with a good eye at the plate and a knack for clutch hits.

I agree with section - I think it'd be Chad Green to open Game 4. I also think Stanton will be in the lineup today.

Tomorrow kind of looks like a definite rainout - I'd think that benefits us since we're clearly going to need our leverage relievers today. An off day tomorrow would help give us more ammo for Game 4 out of the pen.

Lefty means nothing. But he does seem to be one of the very few Yankees that can hit a high FB. High FB is Verlander's and Cole's bread and butter.
Torres can too. Really surprised he did not get one against Verlander, whose velocity is down sitting 94 vs 96.

And suggested that, based on batting heat maps, that Gardner and Encarnacion should sit as neither of them historically do much with high heat. Suggested lineup of Hicks in center, Maybin in left, and Stanton DH.
Assuming no rain out tomorrow

And it’s a bullpen game. How does that effect the bullpen usage tonight? He’s the first out of the pen?

That's what I was thinking. Tanaka should be plenty rested after only throwing 68 pitches.

If there's a rainout tomorrow, I think it'll Tanaka vs Greinke on Thursday. Both pitchers will have four days rest, so why would either team not use them.

arcarsenal : 10/15/2019 8:47 am : link
Paxton's short outing should make him available on Thursday I would think... I'd definitely consider starting him on 3 DR or working him into that game if tomorrow gets rained out. He only threw 51 pitches.

I think the short rest would actually help Paxton. He seems to overthrow his offspeed stuff.

I would sit Encarnacion for sure, he's really struggled with the velocity. If Stanton can go that's a logical swap to at least protect his legs somewhat as a DH. I still think you have to keep Gardner in there. He's one of the few that had consistent ABs in game 2. Left/Right advantage. I'd go Hicks in CF and Gardner in LF

Agreed.
here's the data they used

Stanton's not great on pitches up in the zone, either, but a bit better than Eddie and Eddie has looked utterly lost in the last two games anyway.

Is that for righty or lefty at bats? It should make a difference. Can you trust a chart that uses data from last year and how has the layoff affected that?

Gotta disagree here. Something about a night playoff game creates a far better atmosphere and tougher on the opponents. Just an opinion.

Well yeah, up 2-0 vs 1-1. But if you did not know how the results occurred, would you not have been super happy to have the Yanks leave Houston 1-1 before the series started? Was that not the goal? Yes our pessimistic side will always lament what could have been. 2-0 would have been gravy.

thats why hes on the roster. Boone wants an outfield of Gardy Hicks Judge at the stadium. He is not playing EE over Urshella right now either as he isnt hitting enough to warrant it.

the questuon is Stanton vs Edwin at DH. If stanton can go he plays

If it rains tommorow you lose the off day. will have 4 games in a row with only 3 starters. Sevy isnt gonna pitch on short rest so he cant go before game 7. Would also need your bullpen fresh enough for the other 3 games. Almost have to go to Happ or Cc with an opener somwwhere in 4-6. would think it has tk be at home and depends on if the win tonight.

You may be right on the defensive alignment, but it all comes down to analytics - percentages of advantage. Gardy-Hicks-Judge is by far their best defense OF and Urshela-Didi-Torres-DJLM is the best IF alignment. It does come down to EE vs GS at DH.
I'm still believing that Gary is going to start hitting. He had a RC single game one. He had great ABs game 2. I think his confidence is now back. He just looks ready to deliver.

If tomorrow gets rained out I can see Boone going back to Masa for game four on Thursday or even Pax since he didn't throw much Sunday night.

Either way a rainout helps because we could potentially throw Sevy, Masa and Paxton in games 3,4,and 5.

I'm right here dude.

I don't know why you guys think about me so much. I'm flattered really.

Truth is....I just speak facts. I am sorry if you don't like hearing the fact that if we can't get much from our starters we won't win.
I am a realist. I will be rooting as hard as all of you and I have confidence in the lineup and pen, but the SP leaves alot to be desired. I think tonight is going to be insanely tough game to win(part of reason I was so pissed he lost game 2).
I am not going to blow the team no matter how they play. It's so funny because I was first to say Didi, sanchez, EE look lost at plate and like 5 of you jumped on me calling me names and shit like 5 year olds. Then about 10+ people said it after me....and NOBODY gave them shit. I've coached baseball for 15+ years. It's obviously those 3 aren't having good ABs and they need to change approach. I was encouraged by sanchezs last AB though as it seemed he was seeing the ball better.

Again...it's not whining, it's calling it like I see it, sorry if it hurts your feelings but I don't wear Rose colored glasses. The Yanks starting pitching will prob be the reason they don't win if they lose. That being said if that's what happens i will root hard as hell and hope they get Cole in off-season.

All that aside...go Yankees!

I think today is the only game in this entire series that should NOT be viewed as must win. Cole is dominant. Sure the Yankees can find a way to win this game, but the expectation should be an afternoon of 10+ K’s and a ton of frustration. Games 4 and 5 are absolutely must win. Then we cycle back to Paxton, who needs to have a career defining moment back in Houston.

I'm not gonna rehash all the bs from the other night but it certainly was whining. You came into the thread not an hour into the game shitting on the Yanks and saying how the Stros would win the WS.

There were no facts involved at all in that post. Just negative bullshit while most of us here were trying to be positive and enjoy the game. Others voiced opinions on moves but your posts were more than that and you saying you were "only" posting facts isn't 100% true no matter how many times you say it.
Fair or unfair, Stanton's gonna get a lot of shit for this.
bceagle05 : 10/15/2019 12:28 pm : link
Hicks begged his way onto the roster with a torn elbow tendon, CC's shoulder and knee are held together by duct tape at this point, Didi finished the ALDS last season after blowing out his elbow early in the series. Not a good look for the guy with the biggest contract on the team.
What a bad year for Stanton.
Dave in Hoboken : 10/15/2019 12:32 pm : link
And now he's going to look like a pussy from the fans' perspective. Woof. I like Stanton, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying to find a trade partner for him next season. Not that I expect it to happen. Doubt any team out there wants to take on that contract.
