Trent Williams to Cleveland rumor emerges

Dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things. But sometimes they do something that makes sense, against their nature.

Washington may soon be throwing in the towel on the Trent Williams holdout, trading the disgruntled left tackle in advance of the deadline that arrives in only two weeks.

Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository shares the news with a tweet that is oozing more with rumor than it is dripping with hard news: “Hearing Trent Williams should be on Browns roster quite soon.”

Well, at the very least he's a huge upgrade over Greg Robinson
If Washington is finally considering moving Trent,
Diver_Down : 10/15/2019 6:49 pm : link
they should be fielding all offers. New England has Marshall Newhouse at LT. I'm sure Lil' Bill would be thrilled to have Trent protecting the Statue of Brady.
Let's offer Solder...

straight up for Williams... ;)
Not surprised

Desperate teams with high hopes need to make moves. Obviously Cleveland is one of them. I suppose Dallas is right there with them...probably looking to get help in their secondary too. Rams too. There are others of course....those 3 come to my mind quickly.

As for the Pats, they are always looking to improve. WR help for sure is on the way.

How is this rearranging deck chairs? Trent will be a huge upgrade and possibly stabilize the OL. If he's in shape.

It may be a desperation move, but not one that fits the rearranging deck chairs cliche. Trading for Marshall Newhouse (for example) would fit that phrase.

The number 1 team to enter anybody's head with respect to the secondary is the Eagles.
Assuming
AcidTest : 10/15/2019 7:16 pm : link
they get adequate compensation, it's an uncommonly smart move by the Redskins. Williams won't play for them, and even if did suddenly decide to end his hold out and do so, they are 1-5. Their season is over. His trade value is also at its highest right now just before the trade deadline.

Browns are not making the playoffs this year, IMO. They're in complete disarray and while Williams would help, he's not going to be the catalyst to them making the playoffs.

Browns can still make playoffs this year. Their schedule gets much easier in a couple of games.

Yep. We all too often make absolute statements based on current performance in sports.

Teams come together, begin to play well, begin to win. I still harken back to the opening two games of the Giants 07 season,

If memory serves me correctly there were quite a few absolute statements made about where that team was going.

Browns schedule is about to get pretty easy.
What is the asking price for Williams?

I didn't read the entire thread... but what is the rumor that he can be had for?

I mean, I would love to have him at the right price.

Isn't Dorsey the genius that the anti-Gettleman crowd ranted about getting. (yes the browns jumped in a month ahead)
The Browns schedule..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/16/2019 8:44 am : link
isn't that great.

They get the Pats next, then play in Denver. In Denver. Then they host the Bills.

after that they have an easier stretch, which includes two games against the Steelers. You can't count those as definite wins right now.

If they go 1-2 in their next 3 games, they will really struggle to get to .500 or make the playoffs.

Cleveland is not a good football team.

It can't happen for us for many reasons.
1.) Washington is not trading with the Giants. It will never happen.
2.) Williams is still under contract at $11M this year and $12M next.
3.) Solder's dead cap hit is $25M this year and $13M next year.
4.) The Giants have a little over $5M in cap space.

Even if you ignore the #1 reason, it doesn't take a math degree to understand the accounting of Solder's/William's contracts with our available cap space.

I have a very reliable source telling me that the Trent Williams deal will be done by Wednesday Night and that the details are involving

Higgins
Njoku
1st pick
Our 3rd for their 5th
2021 6th round pick

For

Trent Williams
that seems like a shit ton to give up

they could probably deal with losing Njoku and Higgins but to give a 1st on top of that?

Would be another crappy move for them. That's a haul.

That team is going nowhere. John Dorsey is good at building headlines. He hasn't been good at building that football team. They're painfully mediocre.

They'll be 2-5 after they lose to the Patriots. I don't see them going 8-1 or 7-2 the rest of the way which is what it'd likely take for them to be a playoff team.

Nick Chubb is the only guy on that offense earning his money right now.

Kitchens is horrendous. It was easy to see that he was the wrong guy for that job from the jump. Not sure what Dorsey saw there or what made him think that was the right guy to coach this football team.

You're bringing a completely unproven guy with basically no NFL resume in to coach a lot of egos. Why are any of those guys going to respect Freddie Kitchens or have his back when things go wrong? He's accomplished nothing in this league.

Reminds me of when the Eagles promoted Juan Castillo to DC after he'd been coaching their offensive line for over a decade and had virtually zero experience coaching defenses at anything close to a pro level. It made no sense at the time, and predictably after one year, he was fired because it was a disaster.

normally I would agree, but unlike other teams that can have a 3-5 year window to really go all in on a championship, the browns window is more like 3-5 games.
Browns already tired of OBJ's antics?

Other than the ONE first round pick 10-20 range. Another team would beat that offer easily.
