NGT: Can everyone agree that Russell Wilson

AndyMilligan : 10/16/2019 1:47 am
is on his way to being a first ballot Hall of Famer?

I've seen some folks disparage him. Or joke that they wouldn't take him in a trade, when there were rumors Seattle was going to deal him (which they never really going to do).

You can argue that his skill guys are average (at best) compared to other NFL teams.

I think most of BBI was on board trading for Wilson when the rumors were floating around last year.

I still wouldn’t now, I have never liked the guy. I admit it’s not a rational view because he’s obviously a good player but I can live with it. No trade.

can you imagine him with Andy Reid and those weapons? Long term I’d rather have Mahomes but over the next few years it’s Wilson.

I’m curious why you don’t like him? We’re all entitled to our opinions, of course...but has Wilson ever done anything worth serious criticism on or off the field?

In a league of guys like Antonio Brown, Mayfield, Burfict, Big Ben, etc etc, I find Wilson to be a pretty admirable player
From a fantasy perspective...
sb from NYT Forum : 10/16/2019 7:43 am : link
...I love how so many preseason rankings had him ranked as the 10-15 best QB. He had 35 TDs last year!!! His highest completion % ever!!!

CBS experts had him ranked behind Winston, Mayfield, and one guy had him behind Trubisky, LOL.

He strikes me as a phony and he’s corny as hell. I know that doesn’t really matter because he’s a good player but I factor personality in a lot. Why? I have no idea but I do. Happy the Giants took Eli over Ben for the same reason, Roethlisberger seems like a dirtbag POS, glad I didn’t have to watch him for 15 years.

Not really fair to compare Wilson to Ben I guess, as you said Wilson hasn’t really done anything wrong. He just rubs me the wrong way. Great player but I’m glad he’s in Seattle.

I'd take him over most QBs in the league.

Phony? corny? Have you listened to any Eli or Brady interviews? Nothing but clichés and meaningless nonsense, AND it's the right thing to do, it's the best way to handle interviews these days without dredging up controversy.

You are certainly right he is corny and downright painful to hear him talk at times. However to say that would be a dealbreaker for having him on the Giants is lunacy. What he brings to the field, bring his corny ass on over here.
RW is the best QB in the league right now ...
Spider56 : 10/16/2019 8:29 am : link
He’s been great everywhere he’s been (NCSU, Wisconsin and Seattle), he’s fun to watch and he behaves off the field... If he played for the Giants, he’d own NY ala Strahan ...He gave us 3 outstanding years in Raleigh and 3 big wins over UNC. Too bad a terrible play call cost him a 2nd SB.

Yes, but he overdoes it if that's possible. Watch that interview he did with Bryant Gumble on Real Sports where he couldn't pick between chocolate and vanilla, and other harmless questions.

To have the success he's had and have teammates dislike you to that degree is saying something. I've never seen it elsewhere.

The "Go Hawks" after every single interview is annoying.

As for the football side of things, it finally looks like I'll have to admit he's a very good QB. This season it *appears* as if he's finally able to produce at a higher level within the pocket. I haven't watched all of his snaps but this is an impressive start to a season by his standard.

There have been flaws in his game that never really changed but it seems like he works around it to produce. His deep ball touch seems to always be very good, possibly better than ever.

It just seems like he's so good at throwing deep and broken plays, that it's taken away from his ability to do all the normal QB things at an above average level.

When teams can play very disciplined and have enough horses on defense, he doesn't look all world. Mahomes against Belichick hasn't either. It's really hard to play these high level of disciplined defense, much like it's hard for a QB to dink and dunk 50 times a game to win.

So I'm waiting to see what transpires this year. Losing big at home to the Bridgewater Saints so far has been highly ignored.
He’s trending

To first ballot status. Won 68 percentage of his games led the hawks to victory in the super bowl and if his OC was not such a bonehead would have won a second. Having an mvp like season this year

I don't remember that particular take, but Wilson was certainly among the really good QBs whose strengths he would dismiss and whose mistakes he would magnify. Mahomes was another. Eli was an opposite.

Mobile QBs really skew rushing total numbers. It's rushing yards on a passing play.

Why is everybody so quick to label guys first ballot HOF'ers?
Britt in VA : 10/16/2019 11:30 am : link
Did it with Andrew Luck, hell probably even RGIII after one season.

Lots can change. He's a great player. If he keeps doing what he's doing then yeah, he'll probably be a HOF'er because he has the hardware, too. But the guy has a long way to go and a lot can change.

So no, at this time, I'm not going to agree that he's a first ballot HOF'er.

The reason they went to a rush first offense was because their line absolutely sucks at pass blocking and is okay run blocking.

You only really need to look at his career stats td/int ratio, ypa, winning percentage, and superbowl win, so unless he has a career ending injury in the next two years I'd say he is a first ballot HOF for sure. He's been one of the best QBs in the game for a while now.

where you play the "hit by the bus" game.

If Wilson got hit by a bus today, and couldn't play anymore, I think there is more than enough in his CV to waltz in on the first ballot. He has a SB, should have two if Darrell Bevell wasn't such a dope, and he's clearly demonstrated an uncanny ability to make chicken salad...

He and Elway may be the greatest chicken salad makers ever...

The sucks at pass blocking is not quite clear.

QBs play a role in pass blocking stats. Not just getting the ball out fast but where they choose to be as the pocket slowly collapses.

Wilson doesn't help in that case for his OL.

At one time they had a lot of first round guys on the line.
