I was there too, as a fan, on the field after the game. Then in '86, I was on the field again, working for MLB. I wonder how many others could say the same thing.
thee ticket stub to prove. Of course as a Yankees fan I rooted for the American League team until the guy next to my dad said "tell the little kid (I was 7) to shut up" - he used a few other words I didn't understand yet.

Those were some fun teams to be a fan of as a boy. I became a fan of the Mets around 67/68 and then they win the series in 69 and go to another one in 73. At the time it sure felt like they were building a winning tradition for years to come but boy was that wrong. They struggle for a few years, trade Seaver and the wheels came off. But even with all the losing some of the most fun I have ever had attending sporting events was at Shea. Even when losing those older Mets were easy and fun to root for.
