NFT: Yankee fans throwing bottles at opposing right fielders.

since1925 : 10/16/2019 4:44 pm
This is nothing new. They right field fans have thrown everything from batteries to beers at opposing outfielders.

In a way, it isn't the Yankee fans fault. This has been allowed at the stadium for many years. The question is why hasn't Yankee management cleaned this up?

It could get even worse. Josh Reddick called out the fans after Tuesday's game. That is likely to be met by an even more riled up crowd. Stay tuned.

Idk how you can say it's allowed- it's not.

tough to police 50,000 fans at once... I can picture instances where beers have been thrown in Boston, Philly, St. Louis, Cleveland and LA. not just a NY thing

been to stadiums all over the country, I've been to Yankee playoff games etc,etc and I've never noticed Yankee fans to be any "worse" than any other fans. In the early years of the Subway Series there used to be fights at every game. What they need to do is use the cameras to identify these morons and ban them FOR LIFE. Make an example out of them.

Good call. That was bad in that Jays Rangers playoff a few years back (Joey Bat flip series)

But in another, more accurate way, it's absolutely the fault of anyone who throws stuff onto the field. (And also, Barney's the winner).

You're saying that someone throwing something on the field isn't their own fault? It's CLEARLY on the scoreboard before every game AND announced at every game prior to the first pitch to not do that.

That's every sporting event everywhere - it seems worse to me than it used to be regardless of venue, not sure if I'm just getting older and more cranky or if what I'm seeing is accurate.

Football games especially, and I love a good tailgate. I'm also for a few beers before the game. But when you can't walk upright to your seat before the start of the game, you lost me. The whole point of paying the ridiculously high cost of tickets (way more expensive than 10 or 20 years ago when adjusted for inflation) is to sit and watch a sporting event, not to get shitfaced to the point where you're unable to pay attention. If all you want to do is pound beers, it's much more convenient and cheaper to do so at home.

^^^This 1,000 times! What do you mean it's not the fault of the fans throwing stuff??? That's idiotic. Of course it is their fault.

If this were about an Eagles game all you would hear is what animals they are. But this is my team, so...this must be the fault of security for allowing them to do it!

They do and a Browns fan is suing for being falsely accused. But ban a few and people get the message.

Ban alcohol Incldung tailgating, problem most likely solved. Never understood why one wa to to be wasted at a sporting event anyway. It’s fun to drink for sure, but when it makes attending even hostile, change needs to be made.

Wait, what? Ban alcohol? GTFO.

(As I polish off my 3rd IPA at trivia.)
It's not unique to Yankees fans, but...

...the right field bleachers in the old stadium had some real dirtbags as regulars. I mean, tickets were cheap so the dregs of society could afford to go.

Just like the upper deck obstructed-view parts of Shea (tickets $1 on game day!). Total drunken shitshow.

the fans are mean.. blah, blah.. they hurt my feelings, blah, blah. same story different year. Someone says something about his mother or his wife and he gets flustered. It's called home field advantage and maybe they should screem louder tonight.
They never could have survived the 70's and 80s when players throughout the league would get pelted with batteries beers and hot dogs in a lot of stadiums.

That was what I thought of it as well. If they were going to throw shit at Reddick wouldn't it have been after he hit a HR?

Im not excusing throwing anything on the field but to me it was exactly that, throwing shit on the field and not at any player.

Sure - ruin it for everyone because a select few can't hold their liquor.

What the fuck kind of solution is that?

Hey - stop concession sales too - fat guy in Section 221, Seat 7 can't fit into his seat!
Banning it entirely is obviously not a fair solution
jcn56 : 10/17/2019 8:41 am : link
but proper enforcement would go a long way. Here's a thought - if someone is so drunk they can't make it to their seat, they shouldn't be in the stadium. Same for inside - if you've reached the point where you can't pass a sobriety test, you shouldn't be able to pick up another round of beers.

I was at Game 1 of the ALCS - a game where at the end the Yanks had a commanding lead. Two drunk assholes sitting a few rows ahead of me decided it would be funny to chuck a beer in the air over the fans a few rows ahead of them, drenching them in the process. They were all Yankee fans, and as far as I can tell they had no interaction. This wasn't heat of the moment or opposing fan shit. They were just being drunk assholes.

If you're paying $300-400 on a secondary market to go watch a baseball game, I think you've earned the right not to deal with drunken idiots where it can be prevented.

We were at game one of the ALDS in section 120 and some winner kept dumping his beer on our area every time the Yanks scored, he finally got the boot and he was a Yanks fan.

What kind of dip shit dumps beer on fellow fans?

I used to go to the bleachers a bunch, but it got too stupid for me as I get older.

It's bizarre to me the expensive seats have some of the same crap.

Threads like these are so fucking stupid.

If you allow a few knuckleheads to color your entire perception of a fanbase consisting of hundreds of thousands+ of fans, you're just as much of a problem as the fans who are acting like idiots.

You can find this stuff everywhere in stadiums across the country. How many times have Dodger fans beat the crap out of people in their parking lot? There are countless stories of classless Phillies fans, shitty Red Sox fans... you name it.

This isn't unique to the Yankees.

Blame the idiots throwing bottles, not the team they root for. It's not like the team promotes or encourages that type of behavior.

That's where I was - my post above typo'd ALCS for ALDS. Those two idiots are what's ruining sporting.

That, and the fuckwads who think it's OK to jump someone in a parking lot because they wore the wrong jersey to the game. Talk all the shit you want, but it's never OK to start beating on people, especially when they're outnumbered.

I said in the original post, it's not the fans to blame. The team has to provide the proper amount of security. The rowdies have to be identified, thrown out, and banned. People will get the message after that.
Eagles fans will be pleased to know...

The baddest part of town. In the 70's I rarely saw anything thrown on the field. But on any given night, you could count on numerous fights in the crowd. I once sat behind a melee that emptied four rows in from of me. They must have taken out 20-30 guys.
