Special thanks to Plato; whose post lodged in my head and provided the motivation I needed to be the pain the ass to the caretakers when I needed to be.
It all helped and it made a difference and is appreciated greatly!
The update is - my family member was in a semi-coma that was caused by an overdose from the mental institution.
She finally awakened on Sunday after 9 days and has been quickly progressing since regained mental & physical functions daily and is exoected to fully recover
It took awhile for the hospital to come around from medical reasons to the overdose but after alot of pushing/prodding/questioning it happened and shes awake
We have a long way to go from here toward regaining the person we know as we now have to navigate the mental state that caused her to be institutionalized to begin with but I wanted to give the positive update and the the thanks to all!
Has the facility that caused the OD explained what happened and how her lithium level got out of hand?
I am glad to hear about the good progress.
Yes, that person complained about being down "". Sometimes folks get used to mania and aren't settled being "normal".
But, all in all, the person is on a huge huge dose of anti-psychotic and etc and no with too many side effects.
It's not a way to change them, the underlying issue remains. But the behavior is less outrageous.
And no, it's not me.
So, it may be in some cases overly simplistic to think of it as "up / down", or just "mood disorder".
That may play a roll but it may be much more complicated with regards to the individuals motivations.
Both group and individual therapy and advice on meds.
The person said "it's not helping, they are all crazy and nobody is like me".
I said, "share with me some examples of stories they shared"
And, of course, those sounded verbatim like this individuals narrative and the person's experience. Exactly the same. But the person couldn't recognise that.
did it help? No. Not really.
The meds help tamp down the extreme moments, and one is grateful for that.
But that's it.
Has the facility that caused the OD explained what happened and how her lithium level got out of hand?
They say they just found her that way and were asking about all medical reasons
They hsve totally cut off any communication since its turned to overdose
They know a lawsuit is forthcoming
