Old VHS Tapes of Giant Games

gregindaytona : 10/17/2019 7:47 pm
I just went thru over 200 VHS tapes of old Giant Games my Dad Recorded. Some tapes have more than one game so the quality will be at a slower speed. Before I get rid of them I would not do my late dad a service If I did not ask if any Giant Fans wants them. I know its old technology but I at least have to make the effort. I do not want money just handle the shipping. Contact me at greg.cardino@gmail.com Go Big Blue

Especially older giants fans with handles like: "Ohio Mike". Were you all NYers at one time? Otherwise before streaming games, the only way I ever saw out of state teams play on tv was like at a bar or maybe MNF or the game of the week.
From what period?

during vietnam. Giants games in 1970 and news hard as hens teeth to come by for all kinds of reasons, but primarily because they were a terrible team. I remember driving around at night up hills if possible to try and pick up pre season game (nights) on car radio. Then i paid some service so i could pick up giants games on radio virtually every week. almost paradise.

Then by luck and heaven., Although Giants were still terrible, the head of the local CBS station was a giant fan as rabid as I was. I’m pretty sure it was CBS and not NBC, but the great thing while the local station broadcast the game of the week, which very rarely was the giants, they needed a back up game in case there was satellite or trans mission problems. So he always recorded giants games.and after he watched it on Sunday night he would send VHS of game by cab from station to my house all courtesy. this was Nirvana and as giants improved into 80’s coverage improved, ESPN came, saw 80 and 81 draft in shopping center, but i still got VHS tapes. i think Into have most of them.

I am almost 80, and after 4 SB wins and one loss, i feel much less driven. Never thought I would see Giants in SB let alone win one. Almost died many times, lucky to be here. so still a fan who fixes his Jones with NFL ticket and still superstitious about giant games.

Got to know old BBI crowd from long drive to Albany and met Eric when he was a young single guy planning his giant site.
Sorry to be long winded, but used to be a crazy effort to get games, from originally appealing to Armed Forces Radio etc to my good fortune with my friend the CBS manager. Have lots of tales as I have been giant fan from 1947; first game. against annoying ‘skins.
So hopefully this will be a better Sunday. Sorry to go on so long.
VHS huh?

I loved reading this. Driving around to try to pick up a radio signal - been there, too! We do get WFAN here in SC at night, but it can be spotty depending where you are. After the 2007 Super Bowl, while driving home, it can in crystal clear all the way for the first and only time, which was cool. I appreciated hearing the post-game coverage even a couple hours after the game ended.

Anyway, that local station manager who hooked you up with the tapes should have a statue in his honor! And Plato: Thank you for your service!

I was born and raised in NY until age 14. Moved to Ohio for high school years, then lived in western Pa for most of my college years. Then back to NY for about 15 years and now in SC for 16 years.
The NFL has been talking for years

about making old games available for streaming. But they have moved slowly. I'm sure there are a lot of rights issues.

The struggle is real for out of market fans going on decades.

Be grateful you've got your game every week without fail!

BTW, AFN is the shit overseas for military and DoD contractors. Up to 3 games per time slot, so you usually get a good mix of games. No market restrictions :)

I lived in central Jersey and did not have cable. It was great for football. We got New York and Phipadelphia channels. You got every Giants game and every team I hated in the Jets and Eagles, that also included the Steelers when they got good again in the 90s. A Yankee game was the white whale back then.
