NFT: Yankee offensive failures since 2003

13ODB : 10/18/2019 9:39 am
The Yankees still need to lose one more game but the task ahead of them is very difficult because of how lousy this offense has been this series. it is not the point of facing Verlander and Cole these guys are beatable Red Sox proved it last year but here we have another season where the Yankee offense was one of the tops in the league and that will be the reason they lose once again in the playoffs..everybody thought the reason this team could lose was pitching and I always told people it will come down to offense they need to hit in the playoffs I’ve seen this song and dance before. The exception was 2009

2003 Yankees were up 2–1 on Florida and the offense disappeared the rest of that series
2004 they were up 3-0 and the offense looked great the first 3 games but after the 9th inning of game 4 the offense was terrible the rest of that series. They had chances to get runners home in extras of games 4 and 5 and failed. They couldn’t touch schilling and his bum ankle in game 6 and games 7 was a laugher but that series was lost in Boston.
2005 game 5 in Anaheim had a 2-0 lead against Bartolo Colon who left with an injury in the 2nd inning and they got shut down by Ervin Santana the rest of the game.
2006. Lost to Kenny Rodgers and Jeremy bonderman
2007 game 2 the flies game left tons of men on base that game and lose in extras lost game 4 and the series at home to Paul Byrd
2010.the offense was putrid in that ALCS against Texas they score 2 runs in game 2 no runs in game 3 3 runs in game 4 and 1 one in game 6.
2011. Serval chances in that series against the tigers in games 2 3 and 5 and failed in those games
2012 they were lucky to win the orioles series Ibanez saved them in game 3 otherwise the orioles beat them but the ALCS they did not even show up.
The 2015 wild card game shut out at home to the Astros
2017. They score a total of 3 runs in 36 innings in the four games in Houston they got shut out in game 7 of that series to..
2018. They had chances in games 1 and 4 and failed.

you guys go to the playoffs a lot. lol
Kind of took for granted how easy it was for them

1996-2000. I thought they would be able to keep winning fairly often. Not like that, but more than one title in the next 20 years.

yet if you read the message boards or talk to the fans the team is abysmal and everyone needs to be fired/cut/killed lol
This series reminds me a ton of that Detroit '06 ALDS .

Game one yanks hit all game. put up 8 runs couple of homeruns mixed in there.

Game two- Moose kept them in it against Verlander but end up losing. (current hitting coach Marcus Thames killed the yanks all game)

Games 3 & 4 - couldn't buy a big hit and crushed by big homeruns from DET in game 4 (2 homeruns in the 2nd off Wright quick 3 run deficit)
To be honest

that's basically what the playoffs are all about. It's a short series and you are facing better pitching (or else the opponent wouldn't make it to the post season). You see guys struggle all the time, not just the Yankees. Teams who get "the big hit" are the ones who win. The Yankees did it to the Twins in the first series and Houston has done it to the Yankees in this one.

It looks like the pressure is getting to the Yankees and Houston is making their pitches.

And the 1990s Yankees dynasty teams were built perfectly to win. Great starters, deep bullpen, best closer in MLB history, and a deep lineup that would wear teams out and get the big hit.
Its hard to find

guys that can hit good pitching, but at the same time the Yanks working the count philosphy is coming into question in the playoffs. They routinely take the 1st strike even if its the best pitch they are going to see. aand nobody puts pressure on the pitcher cause even Judge can be had in a tough spot.

They feast on mistakes and bad pitching but those things dissapear in the playoffs.

They need to get Frazier and Andujars bats in the lineup next year and add a big time Lefty bat.

+1

This and adding a legit Ace to the rotation are musts if this team wants to get through the playoffs. Tanaka can’t be relied on to be our best pitcher to carry us through the playoffs every year and everyone else just shits the bed. Got to hope Betances has a strong bounce back year, he is sorely missed in this pen, I like guys like Otto and Britton but both just don’t seem to have the makeup in the postseason when the pressure is on them.

I wish Frazier was in this lineup now. Fuck the defensive flaws, this team is getting no production at all through 2/3rds of the lineup. You just can’t win like that with the pitching we have.
Big Bats coming up small

seems to be the thing for them the last 10 years.

They got to the Yankee BP yesterday, but really they are over worked.

#1 SP and a big LH bat will be key for next season.

This is the Yankees they were predicted and expected to be in and win the World Series this team. This year will be a failure when they lose

They lost to pitchers like Ervin Santana. Jeremy Bonderman Paul Byrd Colby Lewis and Doug Fister in do or die games these guys weren’t good

No they weren't. Astros were pretty heavy favorites to win this series. Even the Dodgers were favored over Yankees to win World Series.
I wonder how much the players
MBavaro : 10/18/2019 11:24 am : link
that filled in and made the hay with all of the injuries NOT playing now factors into the struggles the team is having now....
Looks like everyone in the lineup is trying to win the game....
Crispino : 10/18/2019 11:28 am : link
on every swing. Pressing, and it has led to everyone having crap at bats. Nearly the whole lineup is hitting below .200. It’s over. Again.

Indeed I see that now
The philosophy of the 90's dynasty came from boggs

Patient, good two strike hitting. Battle and take the walk and let the next guy up have a shot.

Of course, baseball has changed a lot.

meh. 2003/4/5/6 are irrelevant right now. The stars of this team were
Stu11 : 10/18/2019 2:27 pm : link
in elementary school. 2 years ago they got shut down by a WC Houston team with a HOF ace. Last year they got beat by a Sox team that won 108 games, embarrassed a Stro's team that could win 2 WC in 3 years and this year a Stros team with multiple possible HOF'ers in the lineup as well as 2 possible HOF pitchers. The past 3 years the teams that are beating us are favored to beat us, have better records in the regular season and better rosters top to bottom. We're not hitting. It sucks. Small sample sizes. We need to hopefully find another 1 or 2 type SP and maybe another DJL type hitter as his regular season on base ability has continues into the playoffs. I have faith in Cash. Sometimes you have to look in the mirror and realize that you're just not as good as the other team and frankly thats been the case the past 3 years. No need to get rid of everyone and fire everyone. Just make the small the changes that you need to do to be better.
