Team celebrations

BestFeature : 10/19/2019 1:32 pm
I think the NFL got one thing right in allowing team celebrations again. Some of them are silly but as BBI used to say, it's much better acknowledging your teammates and all revelling in the celebration than celebrating by yourself like it's all about you. Listening to Peppers talk about the team celebration after his pick 6 against the Redskins and how much he appreciated celebrating with the guys really solidified this opinion. It's a minor thing but good job NFL.
I never liked the penalty

so I tend to agree.

I liked it when they would flip the ball to the ref and head for the sideline.
Many are embarrassing for this fan to watch,

but they should never have banned them, unless there’s taunting

I grew up with all the players simply handing or flipping the ball to the official. Then Homer Jones introduced the spike and the rest, as they say, is history.
If the teams worked at it, the celebrations could be very

entertaining.

Make it competitive and it could turn into the NFL equivalent of the NBA slam dunk competition.

I don't mind the celebrations

I just prefer that the players do things that more natural and in the moment (hug, high five, head bump, etc.).The group camera pose is fine too - but when they get in to stuff that's over-coordinated it's a bit of a turn off to me.
I loved the Homer Jones spike

Never dreamed it turned into what it has, but I m good with it
I like it too

Creative too.
My take

While I most prefer the old "act like you've been there before" give it to the ref non-move, I still enjoy a good old spontaneous spike. You can almost feel a players excitement with one of those.

While I'm not a big fan of the premeditated choreographed type celebrations I don't think it should be a penalty. To each his own, and there is no harm in it.
Depends on the situation, I guess.

I don’t like the over the top celebrations. Team is losing late in the game , down 24 and they get all giddy when they pull within 17. Can’t stand guys who are tone deaf to the import of the play. We’ve all seen guys get all worked up about making a tackle on a first down after a run for 8 yards. Stupid.

But for me, the most cringe inducing thing about the group celebrations is the realization that grown men must practice these things like a group of 12 year old cheerleaders.
Hand The Ball To The Ref

Or just spike it. Just about anything more looks ridiculous IMHO.

I know, another “Get off my lawn” guy.
Except for a spike, I hate it.

I will never be convinced that it's a good thing. Get off my lawn.

Just another thought, even though the above comments seem thoughtless, remember when Bill Gramatica tore his ACL celebrating a field goal? It really would suck if a player got hurt during one of these little dance routines after scoring. Just hand the ball to the ref, and go sit down.
