CFB: Moorhead to Rutgers?

Section331 : 10/20/2019 12:11 pm
Was at a Fordham football game yesterday, and there was talk of former Fordham QB and HC Joe Moorhead taking the Rutgers job. He’d be a good choice, he’s a good coach and recruiter, and I think he’s out of his element at Miss St.
Moorhead to Rutgers? - ( New Window )
Wishful thinking
Mike in NY : 10/20/2019 12:19 pm : link
He is not “out of his element” at MSU and why would anyone leave SEC to be in the basement of B1G? He was 8-5 last year and has a difficult schedule this year (all the games they were expected to lose were at home and the toss-up games are all on the road).
Not sure

of the issues with Rutgers. Are they lacking in facilities? Don't want to pay a big coach? It seems they should be more competitive in their conference.
He has denied it several times this week

Granted, historically that hasn’t meant much in college football
Pretty sure there's nothing to this report

Moorhead could easily go to plenty of other East Coast schools, particularly BC which is in an easier conference. Starkville has some unreasonable expectations, but unless they can him Rutgers is just wishful thinking.
If they don't hire Schiano back I think there will be a fan base

revolt (assuming there still is a fan base).
They need someone who can keep

Players in state. And recruit places like Florida. If not Schiano, I would go for Al Golden.

What Paterson said. What’s left of a demoralized fanbase may burn what remains of the program to the ground.

But what exactly is the appeal of the Rutgers job?

Work at decent pay.

It is $4M a year, BIG10 job. It’s definitely not an ideal opportunity for someone, but those two factors ensure someone of substance will take it.

Some coaches are also crazy enough to believe Rutgers is a sleeping giant given all the HS talent in NJ.

Facilities arent the issue. Mainly the BOG and admin are assholes. This goes back to when Schiano left. They went cheap w Flood and got what they deserved. Made a worse decision on Ash w zero ability to recruit and even worse are cheap on assistant coach salaries.

Moorehead would be a good choice, but without manor assurances they will pay a staff they won’t get anyone legit to come. And since it’s NJ one day they get a full one B1G Share the money will be squandered

NJ is not loaded with talent. Middle of the road.
Funny a lot of folks are speculating him to BC

Since he allegedly wanted job 4 years ago when Addazio was on hot seat. You will likely hear a lot of candidates tied to both spots.

Thanks!
Rutgers is a coaching graveyard

Moorhead is doing well in the toughest league in the country and if he stays competitive at MSU he could get get an "A" list job.

No way does Rutgers pay their head football coach $4 million a year. I know they’re in the B1G but I’m positive only a few programs in the upper echelon of college football pay their head coach that or more

I've been hearing this "sleeping giant" stuff for at least 40 years, it just isn't true. First other states have just as much, if not more, talent. Second other programs have such inroads into NJ now through contacts, reputation, and alumni, that no way we can get a dominant share of the talent. Its too late. We will just be a decent prospects "safe" school. If he doesn't get the scholarship to Penn St or ND, then he can fall back into Rutgers
