Calling plays, managing the game, maybe not co existing

joeinpa : 10/20/2019 6:23 pm
Hard to understand or explain how unaware the head coach seemed to be of possible better alternatives for handling the end of that game

For example on the next to last Giants possession down only 3, Giants have 4 th and long. I believe there was about 2:40 something left.

I understand on 3 rd and 20 he had already determined he was going for it. But once the draw got 6 yards why not change the plan.

A punt there allows you to get the ball back 3 down with 2 minutes instead of 6, if the defense gets the same three and out they got after the fumble on 4 th down, deep in Giants territory for gimme FG.

They still get ball back with 2 + min on 25 if you don’t run that kick back. That s not a second guess either. No nothing fans like myself and my kids were certain they would not attempt to run a kick out of the end zone.

Maybe it s time to give up the play calling. I know he s suppose to be some kind of genius, but it s hard to see it, at least to my untrained eye
I think there is something too this

No more HC's who want to call plays unless they are a proven winner. This is the second coach in a row doing this, one crashed and burned and this one is on his way to the same.
Getting dominated on both LOS

Is what Giants fans should be concerned about. Not PS clock management

Cardinals completely outplayed Giants
I agree but doubt it would help

A coach with some self awareness would realize it is hurting his overall game management. He is just not going to work out.
He rolled the dice on offense keeping control of the ball but

I was more upset with running the kickoff out of the end zone with a rookie returner. Instead if on the 25, we are backed up on the 12 and they have defensive momentum. Shurmur said he was ok with that ??? Baffling
Fully agree with this

Never liked the idea of a HC calling plays. Human beings are actually terrible at multi tasking. It’s a myth that we do it at all. I think all you get when you dual hat is a watered down OC and watered down Head Coach game decisions.

That said. I don’t want Shula calling plays
What’s frustrating

Is watching New Orleans & Kansas City & Philadelphia & Minnesota run creative, explosive, high scoring offenses.

I thought Shurmur would be like that.

I thought wrong.
Shurmur already threw Jones under the bus today
Go Terps : 10/20/2019 6:44 pm : link
Apparently he said Jones audibled to the 3rd and 18 run late in the 4th quarter.

Even if that's true, why say it? Aren't you supposed to support this kid?

Fire this fucking clown coach and clown GM today. Take the next 3 months to figure out how to take the organization out of the 1980's and into the 21st century.

Saints up 25-10 in Chicago. No Drew Bress. About to go 5-0 without him
Shurmer made a lot of stupid moves today
Chris L. : 10/20/2019 6:53 pm : link
but the worst thing he did was look totally defeated and dejected on the sideline when we were only three down and the game was still winnable. That is unexcusable. You are the leader of the team. Your players are looking to you for leadership. Guy needs to go ASAP.
no one has let more talented head coaches slip through their fingers
gtt350 : 10/20/2019 6:54 pm : link
than the Giants. It's ridiculous starting with lombardi, landry.

Agree, they got dominated by that defense. But that still doesn’t excuse the way the end of that game was handled

Cardinals and they couldn't. Cardinals weren't suppose to be able to run the ball on the Giants and they did. Giants lost the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
I mean that draw play in that situation has been
idiotsavant : 10/20/2019 7:23 pm : link
A satire trope through at least 3 coaches now.

We were like: "lemme guess , draw play haha" going back to coughlin if not fassel.
a lot of coaches run a draw play in that situation.
japanhead : 10/20/2019 7:31 pm : link
going for it on 4th and 15 deep in your own territory with time on the clock, though.. that is a give up play. shurmur had another give up play in new england last game. either he's a bad coach or he's deliberately trying to lose games.

I don't entirely agree, because they were giving the ball to Barkley. I think it was the wrong call, but it wasn't a crazy call. Barkley is your all-world RB, the guy who can rip a TD run off from anywhere on the field. It's not crazy to think he could get 15 yards.

If he's really healthy. And if the line can run-block competently.

The way things were going today, though, I trust Jones to get a big chunk of yardage with a pass more than I trust Barkley to do it with a run. But y'know, this is why they spent the #2 overall pick on Barkley, right? Because he's a guy who can get big chunks of yardage, maybe even break one and save the game?

2 problems here. One, why are you throwing your QB, a rookie who you had a big say in drafting, under the bus? That smells of desperation. Two, even if Jones audibled, how about adjusting your plan based on the outcome?
And why the Hell is he so fascinated with calling TOs

Oh c'mon Terps, really?

That's not what happend. I know you dislike PS and I'll agree his decision at the end of the game to run - then go for it - was not good.

But he hardly threw DJ under the bus. In fact, someone asked about DJ and PS said "he's tough as nails".

PS even said it was the right play and it's what he wanted. You're reaching.
