Engram

Bust? This guy has a ton of talent but cant seem to seize the opportunity he has.
Too many drops

I was hoping this was an update on his injured eye.
BigBlueDownTheShore : 10/20/2019 7:37 pm : link
That didn't look too well.

He needs some sort of gloves playing in the rain. He couldn't catch shit with his hands bare.

To your original point, he isn't a bust.
He can’t seize the ball either. I realized today why they don’t

Injury and drops. Wasn’t that pretty much the book on him coming out of Ole Miss? Maybe not a great pick but not sure he’s a bust yet.

can't see him getting a second contract

but i didn't think they'd give one to shepard either so who the fuck knows. i preferred ballard and boss honestly.

The last of Reese's shiny toys.
Diver_Down : 10/20/2019 7:42 pm : link
Been reading for years on BBI that Engram is ready to dominate. He gives great effort on his blocking, but he still isn't good. And as a pass-catching TE, he drops an awful lot of passes. He's not a bust, but he certainly hasn't lived up to his draft slot.

He'll always be Evan "Not Ramczyk" Engram. Reese knew we desperately needed to address the OL. He chose the shiny toy instead of a building block on the OL.
If he could catch the ball he'd be really solid
Bold Ruler : Mod : 10/20/2019 7:42 pm : link

Giants coaching has sucked all his years
For one
Hsilwek92 : 10/20/2019 7:52 pm : link
why the fuck wasn’t he wearing gloves?

Two, even with the drops, the Cardinals are THE WORST at covering TE’s. He was targeted a total of 5 times. How was he not a bigger part of the game plan from this coaching staff? Did they even know the Cards sucked at covering TE’s?
Is it possible he wasn't 100%?
Eli Wilson : 10/20/2019 7:55 pm : link
Maybe that's why he wasn't open.

Maybe he'll always be injured and not 100%.

WTH knows.

Whole team was a letdown today.
Sy's studs should have no one on the list.

This is what drove me nuts. Sure he had the two drops but how was he not a bigger part of the game plan?? Honestly I thought that Shurmur did deserve another year but I can no longer justify keeping him around after yet another game filled with questionable calls and clock management.
He's been pretty inconsistent. He's got great speed, but for a fast
Ira : 10/20/2019 7:58 pm : link
player, he doesn't separate that well. His hands aren't that good either. He's always capable of a big game, but doesn't do it every week. His blocking won't ever be great, but he has worked hard to improve it to the point where it's not too bad.

Maybe I'm just a grumpy old cat who didn't get his meal yet tonight but I am SO tired of hearing every week going into a game how this guy needs to step it up and he's going to be this big target. Yeah, he came off an injury.

But yeah, fuck it, hes a bust. Why isn't he?
Not only Engram
Jay on the Island : 10/20/2019 8:02 pm : link
Darius Slayton was targeted only twice while Bennie Fowler, who was just brought back, was targeted 5 times which is the same number as Engram.
Would you want him back? Why?

Still no excuse for this coaching staff to not game plan for a weakness nearly every team they’ve played has taken advantage of. There’s only two things I can think of as to why, 1) gross negligence re: game planning or 2) hubris in thinking they could beat them another way.

Neither of those scenarios are acceptable.

Evan Engram has more receiving yards, touchdowns, and the same amount of receptions as Ertz while also having a higher average yards per reception despite playing in 1 less game.

I'm as frustrated as anyone after today's performance but trying to suggest Engram is a bad player is absurd. I guess we will just pretend that he wasn't playing with a knee injury.

Right through his fingers, Tate had a few of them as well, why single out Engram. Guy is roughing out a a knee injury and had one of his eyes swollen shut after it was poked in. Engram is a stud, enough of the nonsense.

Who cares? The argument is moot anyway because, it’s only being made in hindsight.

There are literally hundreds of arguments to be made when it comes to the draft and who could’ve been picked. It’s just as ridiculous and futile as imagining what you would do if you won the lottery.
I’d have no issue shopping him at the deadline.

Bad Reese pick. The guy to take was Ryan Ramczyk. Who is one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL. Our o line still sucks to.
Engram certainly wasn't a bad pick

Njoku was the likely alternative
adamg : 10/20/2019 9:23 pm : link
Everyone was hot on him. And TE was a strong need. At the time, Engram was considered a reach. In hindsight, we could consider ourselves fortunate at the production we've gotten especially in relation to Njoku who has played more games and has significantly less impressive numbers.
Today Something Seemed To Have Hurt Him
Percy : 10/20/2019 9:29 pm : link
Physically. I never saw what happened to him but did see him on the ground, very slow to get up, sitting there worrying at his eye or eyes and pretty wobbly. What was that all about? Finger in the eye? Something else?
Why doesn't he were gloves, like every reciever?
George from PA : 10/20/2019 9:37 pm : link
It Pouring rain.....every reciever has those gloves with that sticky rubber....but not Engram.

Who said he is a bad player? He's a different player than Kelce or Ertz (who caught 116 passes last season) and is not going to be a consistent 8 catch 80 yard guy every game. Doesn't mean he's not useful and he's going to have a huge games.

I really think you are right but a real seem route takes maybe 3 seconds and the Oline is only giving 2 - 2.5.

I believe the total failure of the Oline not blocking is the key reason this team has been crappy for years.

He was a stud a couple weeks ago to many on BBI.

He needs to play better but he is a talented player. Everybody sucked today. He was playing hurt and I’m sure he thought he was getting lit up on that go route.

Barkley also ran backwards a couple times, once after catching a screen pass, cost them a lot of yards.
That is high school stuff, can't do that in the NFL.
I think he was trying to do too much, after a layoff.
He also missed a couple blocks in pass blocking,
that might have been a result of rust or not playing for a month.
