Take the red shirt off Danny.

Marty in Albany : 10/21/2019 12:12 pm
That's probably going too far. But despite his wearing a red shirt, let the defense try to strip Jones of the ball during the 11 on 11 practice. It might give Jones a little more awareness of how to protect the ball.
You mean to tell me
Chip : 10/21/2019 12:15 pm : link
he is not supposed to stick the ball out and hold it one hand.
It has nothing to do with
Tuckrule : 10/21/2019 12:16 pm : link
The strength to hold onto the ball. It’s about his mental clock in the pocket. He doesn’t have one at all! He has zero feel for when it’s time to bail or make a decision. He just sits in the pocket and burps the baby and thinks hes got the cowboys offensive line.
They have to work on his internal clock as well.
GiantsUA : 10/21/2019 12:16 pm : link
Once his internal clock get's to 3 seconds he needs to get the ball out of his hands(throw it away, check down) or make a run for it.

He's a rookie with 5 games under his belt

Trying to play hero ball with WRs who can't get open and a shitty OL. He'll be fine.

This is way too logical an opinion of a rookie QB on a horribly coached team. How dare you.

Agreed
A smart coach would change the strategy a bit
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/21/2019 12:33 pm : link
And set DJ8 free and let him run around like Josh Allen.

He ran better than Murray last game.
And what happen to the rollout last game

I'd also like some playaction, but I'm assuming they don't use it because of the OL can't protect the QB.
it honestly looks like he's trying to put the team on his back
UConn4523 : 10/21/2019 12:48 pm : link
which is an admirable trait to have but obviously can produce poor results. He's doing this with an OLine that simply doesn't give him time, and WR's who aren't getting separation. Turnovers will happen under these conditions.

If we had a great Oline id be worried, but we don't.

I agree. He's trying to do too much at times.
The first fumble yesterday
Oscar : 10/21/2019 12:50 pm : link
Was on what looked like a very slow-developing HB screen pass, Saquon was just making his move out into the flat as DJ got hit. It looked like the right tackle got blown up instantly putting Jones under pressure, and he decided to try and wait for the play to develop.

My guess is he’ll get this down with some practice. Should have just assessed the situation and decided the play wasn’t working and thrown the ball at Saquon’s feet as it was breaking down. My hope/expectation is he starts making the right decision with some seasoning.

You can't be the quarterback if you can't hold on to the ball
Go Terps : 10/21/2019 12:51 pm : link
He has to improve ball security immediately. In the meantime, the front office should be thinking about whether QB will be in play at the top of the next draft.

In the longer term, an interesting thought is that if we enter 2020 with Shurmur/Gettleman running things we will be in the mix for Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 draft.

I said that repeatedly while watching him get crushed. Giants tried the same thing over and over on the ground and going back to pass with the same results. No imagination.
Your also assuming
Bubba : 10/21/2019 12:51 pm : link
our defense will get to him.
After the game mercifully ended...
Torrag : 10/21/2019 12:52 pm : link
our Giants group were all saying we understand Jones will have growing pains reading coverages and going to the right place with the ball. It's a quantum leap from college ball to the variety and complexity of NFL defensive schemes. BUT he has got to get his act together with the fumbles. He totes the pigskin around like a loaf of bread he's trying to give away at a shelter. It's been going on for a month now. This is a COACHABLE problem. Where the Hell are the coaches on this and wtf are they doing about it?

Cards sniffed it out and SB got caught in traffic.

Eli would have thrown it at his feet and bbi would have a meltdown screaming for a mobile wb who would solve all are problems because they saw fun exciting highlights on espn.
I'm not blaming Jones. We've all seen plenty of QBs under
Marty in Albany : 10/21/2019 1:00 pm : link
just as much pressure as Jones got yesterday, including Eli, who knew when to tuck the ball away, or throw it away. He needs to learn when do it in PRACTICE rather than learning from his mistakes during a game.
I think it's bad coaching
Coach Red Beaulieu : 10/21/2019 1:13 pm : link
DJ8 knows to throw it under 2.8 secs, he worked with Cutcliffe. It's pretty apparent he's trying to complete 70% because that's why Shemur was hired.
How
liteamorn : 10/21/2019 1:22 pm : link
About giving him a fucking pocket

Doesn't matter what he knows, it matters what he does. He had a terrible game yesterday, worst of the season, and a lot of it had to do with holding the ball to long and some lack of pocket awareness.

Not sure you are right there. SB absolutely fucking blew his blocking assignment. His one major weakness is he cannot pass pro for shit.. He sucks at it!

It's all of it
JonC : 10/21/2019 2:05 pm : link
Poor pass pro, trying to do too much, no internal clock or feel for the pass rush bearing down on him, and a poor protection of the football habit (which falls on coaching to fix, pronto).
Phil Simms fumbled at an alarming rate...
BillKo : 10/21/2019 3:00 pm : link
....in 1985. Every time he was touched it seemed.

This part of DJ's game is the least to worry about, it will diminish as he plays more. And the team around him improves.

Before you spew any more nonsense. He’s a great blocking back. That particular play your talking about he just didn’t see it his job was to check his blocking assignment and leak out. He missed it. That happens but to say it’s his weakness in his game is stupid and wrong. He’s one of the better blocking backs in the nfl
