Great job as always. Might have been one of the worst games I've seen since Atlanta a few years back. Bettcher is clueless and Shurmur is right with him. Sad to think Special Teams is the highlight. My God, I may have to admit that Go Terps may have been right after all....
As far as Solder, I never thought much of him or any of New England's line. But it is hard to believe that they are worse now than last year.
Yet, even with as bad as they played, they still only lost by 6 with multiple chances to win it.
And even if he runs around all over the place in the desert in the regular season and finds some success. They're not going to be successful any place in the North/Northeast where weather is a factor in Jan-Feb and he needs to throw the ball to win.
I know they had a lead in the 2nd half, but it was a 10 and 3 point lead and they had no interest in putting it in the air. When they did he could barely throw it.
On Solder, I watch a bit of Patriots because my neighbors are all Pats fans.
Solder was not nearly this bad with the Pats. He did struggle the 1st half of the season when his son became ill, but he turned it up in the 2nd half and finished strong and steady.
Honestly I am not convinced our OL problem is partially scheme and/or just not being well coached at this point. I never thought of Solder as some great tackle but he was never this bad with the Pats, and I don't credit Brady for that.
The Pats have been making pedestrian players look better Â
The fact that Brady was getting up in years and the Pats had a ton of cap space and still let Solder walk should have been evidence enough that something wasn't right there.

True but they really don't seem to get stuck on any one player. They stockpile draft picks, draft pretty well and plug in the next guy lol. God, how I hate that team....LOL
We certainly need two OT's and biggest concern is Jones
Have to hope he progresses with ball security and reading
defenses . I will say it again we have two 4-3 DT's Lawrence and Hill Tomlinson is a backup I don't understand how we
play in a 3-4 ?
Agree enough of Shurmur .
I keep wondering do we move Peppers to FS and get Bethea
off the field .
Sy'56, thanks once again for informative, interesting review... Â
...have just one small quibble regarding Oshane Ximines. From what I can tell he was NOT obliterated at the point-of-attack twice on Arizona TD runs. He definitely was on the first**, but I don't think he was on the field for the second and third TDs. And if he was, I don't think he got wiped out at the POA.
**On first TD run, Oshane Ximnes attacked the TE’s inside shoulder thus ceiling himself inside and allowing Edmunds a soft corner.
I believe that DeAndre Bakers reluctance to get involved went way beyond the ordinary self preservation NFL CBs engage in. He was completely dogging it yesterday. Check out the 3rd Cards rushing TD. Disgraceful.
He can be cut next year with $6.5m in cap savings and $13m dead money or designated a post June 1 cut with $13m in cap savings and $6.5m in dead money in 2020 and 2021. Either is doable given the amount of cap space we have next year (which would increase in either situation).
Mike Remmers getting tossed on his ass late in the game not by Chandler Jones or Terrell Suggs. The immortal Brooks Reed pushed him flat on his back while the Giants were trying to start a GW drive. This team continues to look awful at anchoring and giving Jones space to step into throws. On the rare occasions Jones gets a perfect pocket, he drops that dime to EE, who dropped the ball. Oh well.
I don't think anyone thought Solder was a Jason Peters, Trent Williams, or Tyron Smith. However, it was reasonable to think he could be average to somewhat above average. He isn't. He stinks. He's stunk the entire time he was here.
The offensive line penalties are outrageous.
Sy... is it my imagination or was there a running play with Barkley in which the hole opened up to his left and for some reason, he cut it back to the right into a pile of bodies? The play seemed similar to his 21 yard run earlier in the game. I bring this up because Antrel Rolle said after the game that a right ankle injury is likely to make a player not want to go left (who knows if that's accurate). It just seemed so weird that he wouldn't follow the good block of Penny off his left hip. Even Solder had his man blocked on the play.
think about what the NYG tackle position group would look like without them.
When DG took over this team - he had literally nothing - nothing to work with.
He had a decent stretch last year where he played well. He’s traditionally a slow starter, going back to his days in New England. He’ll pick it up. Remmers is who worries me. He’s getting worse each week.I wouldn’t mind seeing Gates get some snaps.

While I agree Solder has been a disaster, if I recall correctly, wasnt he the most sought after LT in his FA class? I see to remember that Houston wanted him pretty badly. Who are the LT's in that class that we could/should have signed instead of Solder? Im sure that at least a few of them are having some success somewhere.

He'll pick it up? They're 8 weeks in! What's he waiting for, the playoffs?
Gettleman said he would “fix the defense like I fixed the OL” Â

Stop making excuses for DG, these are his guys, he’s gotta own it.

Doesn't Brady have one of the lowest times of holding the ball throughout his career? Certainly something DJ8 doesn't have. Plus a 50/50 receiver like Gronk is a huge help.
Giants fans frustrated with the Giants and Jones were defending Â
Murray because his team won. Fuck that he did nothing. He didn't even hurt us with our legs. The absolutely best thing you can say about him this game is he didn't lose them the game. I'd be much more concerned with Murray than Jones. At least Jones has upside. At #6 (and certainly #1) I'd much rather get the higher risk high reward guy.
review. Solder was signed because DG and the FO incorrectly decided that Eli had a few more good years left, even though it was painfully obvious years ago that was wrong. Without that erroneous conclusion, Solder likely wouldn't have been signed.

One thing about Murray, Bettcher schemed for him to run with the ball, and NYG Keyes in him, making it easier Edmunds to get 3 long rushing TD’s. Ximines was playing DT on 3rd down to account for Murrays ability to run.

Sure! How dare anyone complain that one of the highest paid OT's in the NFL should be a slow starter for half the season. What a great investment that is when you pay for a guy as much as the GMen have and he gives you half a season.
Thanks for your input. NOW we're so appreciative that you so eloquently explained how wonderful it is that we have an aging LT that gets ready to play when half the season is over.
what I am saying is if the Giants didn't have Solder and Remmers than who would they have instead?
Simple question.
Looking at what they have on the roster - it's not pretty.
1. Solder......you are right....figuring he started in NE was all I needed to know. Wow was I wrong.
2. JJ....I’d rather keep,JJ then trade him for a 4th. That guy will probably not even play and the team who acquires him will probably finish in the top 5 so it would be more like a 5th. No thanks. I still want to try to win this year. We have no one to take his place today.

Are you trying to say over the last two years you couldn't have had cheaper combined guys that could have helped the GMEN to a combined 7-16 record? In regard to solder-- in order to achieve this amazing 7-16 record, we couldn't have achieved such greatness without him with maybe a cheaper player?
and most thought Solder was a decent get even if we overpaid. He has not worked out. We need 2 OTs in the offseason, I think we need to sign a stud in the offseason and then get 1 in the draft. If we can do that and designate Solder as a June 1 cut we can get out of this. I don't know who that OT is that we sign though.
I think Jones' fumbling issue is correctable with an offseason, its hard to do that during the season. We also have not had all of our top WRs and top TE on the field yet so hopefully having them will allow for open receivers instead of everything tight.
We just simply have no playmakers on D. We need to get someone in here who teams have to account for. Right now they can do whatever they want.
I remember the same thing, it was Hernandez who was holding on the big SB run prior to the half - that was a killer, and might well have been the play that cost us the game.
Further proof that you can't build your team through free agency Â
Sure there are a few signings that end up being good, but for the most part you're signing a guy that the team that had him and knows the most about him didn't want.
Even though Solder and Remmers are a step up from Flowers and Wheeler they just aren't as good as their contract.

Edge contain "trick" edge runs has been a problem all year, teams score at will in the redzone, exasperated with a mobile QB. One hopeful sign, the D was sniffing them out in the 2nd half, although it might have been just bad Kingsbury playcalling.

Clearly Eli was the common denominator.
This is the week the Giants either putting it together of FOLD the Â
season. I honestly, truly believe that when a team plays this bad (8 flipping sacks, though some are on Jones for holding the ball too long, he will learn...) at home they either bounce back strong or FOLD. No "average" this week.
The defense is limited and there is little hope outside of the young guys staying healthy and showing better.

Here's the thing, people in NFL front offices are paid a lot of money to know things like what's available and what are the alternatives to the most expensive headliner free agents.
