As it's becoming clear that Shurmur isn't the head coach to lead this franchise, IMO Gettleman will let him go after the season. I even think there's a chance he cuts the cord during the bye week based on the recurring themes discussed on BBI ad nauseam (terrible clock and game management decisions, unimaginative play calling, under utilizing Barkley, career coaching record 20 games under .500 and team coming out flat).
It would be interesting to get BBI's thoughts on who people would like to see as the next head coach. Knowing that the Giants like to keep things "in the family", we'll likely hear names like Matt Rhule and John Fox. I also believe one of Jason Garrett and Sean Payton both with former ties to the Giants will shake free this off season (maybe both if they don't make the NFC championship). Obviously Belichick would be the dream scenario, but not realistic.
After the McAdoo and Shurmur hires, I do think Gettleman and Mara will look for a coach with proven head coaching experience and a winning record, so names like Mike McCarthy and Jim Harbaugh (if let go by Michigan) could be in play. Sure they could also surprise and look to the college ranks but for the purpose of this discussion, which of these coaches makes the most sense. Regular season record, playoff record and age listed for comparison purposes.
John Fox: Record 141-130 regular season (.520) and 8-7 post season (.533). 64 years old.
Jason Garrett: 80-59 regular season (.576) and 2-3 post season (.400). 53 years old.
Mike McCarthy: 125-77-2 regular season (.618) and 10-8 post season (.556). 55 years old.
Sean Payton: 123-75 regular season (.621) and 8-6 post season (.571). 55 years old.
Jim Harbaugh: 44-19-1 regular season (.695) and 5-3 post season (.625). 55 years old.
Fact 1... no one on this board has a say in who the next coach is
Fact 2... your an idiot if you think sitting on your coach qualifies you to pick coaching candidates
Fact 3... Shurmur isn’t going anywhere this year... get over it
2. He is not getting fired for reasons you gave what basically amounts to Monday morning QBing. That draw play worked against Dallas last year for a 60 yard gain. You didn't think it was unimaginative then.
3. He is not getting fired during a rebuilding year when your other option is yet another new QB or putting a 38 year old Manning back in.
Coaching jobs usually start out with a team that totally sucks and it not from some guy who just won the SB with another team.
Ok John Mara... you can return to the hole you crawled out of. Stop speaking in absolutes when you have no knowledge of the inner workings of the organization

That all said everyone has to be accountable for showing progress.
We need to see, regardless of the opponent, progress from DJ in regards to turnover reduction, sack reduction, completion percentage, as the season progresses to provide confidence that he is the real deal and not a reach. And we need to see some closer games, and wins to believe that Shurmur is go forward coach.
For every Mcvay, and MCDermott, Shanahan in SF, you have all the flame outs. Wins are the metric that coaches are graded on. And have not won consistently. Coach has to figure out a way to win with what he's got.
wow.
Are you that unaware? You just spoke in absolutes 3 posts up Mr. "get over it."
That said I'm really starting to doubt he's the guy. For him to win we'd really need a special roster.
maybe so, but the we are far worse than the losing record when you carefully look at what is going on on the field
He is awful.
the cardinals fired Wilks after one year dont want to hear the rebuilding excuse, this guy is a losing head coach they need to move on from him,
the same was said for Mccadoo all we heard was he won 11 games he is not going anywhere.
He is awful.
Probably not, but I'd love to see his horrid reaction when asked if he'd consider doing so by the beat writers.
I couldn't stand him when he coached the 49ers, too whiny, weird... but he has a successful NFL stint under his belt.
He would be at the top of the list for me.
