How about some credit for DG

Tim in VA : 10/21/2019 10:41 pm
Not only have I loved the guys he has picked, but not to be ignored are the pundit favorites he smartly passed on/avoided. Darnold, Rosen and Haskins. Who would Reese have taken in these last 2 drafts?
It's one terrible game by Darnold
Jay on the Island : 10/21/2019 10:44 pm : link
Let's not act like he's a bust because of one terrible game.
That’s great and all

But I would prefer a rating better than : welp it coulda been worse -\_@_/-

afterall God and his mother told him to pick Barkley...
Well, we clearly would have been picking 32nd

Come on...

Darnold is having a horrible game against the same team as Jones’s terrible game 10 days ago. Belichick is the common denominator here. Luckily for both the Jets AND the Giants- how a 1st or 2nd year quarterback performs agains the BB Pats defense is not necessarily a good indicator of what kind of career he’ll have.
Ok maybe for you guys it's too early
Tim in VA : 10/21/2019 10:53 pm : link
But Darnold, to my eyes, and not just in this game, is the definition of Quarterback hell. Ditto Rosen and Haskins. I like our guy. Call me wrong, premature, whatever. Sticking to it.

Jones looked vastly superior to Darnold against the Pats. In much more difficult circumstances. It's not even close. These are what you call terrible games by rookie qbs, we've seen from Darnold and Allen multiple times, and Mayfield as well. Jones' worst so far is much higher than theirs

I think I remember arguing with some of you same folks 2 years ago. Sorry guys, Barkley was the right choice.
Sorry Tim
Marty866b : 10/21/2019 11:01 pm : link
Quinton Nelson was the right choice. Great offensive lineman are more valuable then great running backs. Barkley will be out of the league while Nelson will still be named All Pro for many years after Barkley is gone.

Tim in VA : 10/21/2019 11:08 pm : link
He was actually my second choice. I can't argue much with you though. But can we both agree....Darnold, Rosen....BWAHAHA
And in Baltimore and Indy they're laughing at us

Did you watch last week's Jets/Cowboys game at all?
Look, a lot of Giants fans...
bw in dc : 10/21/2019 11:51 pm : link
prefer style over substance. They love Gettleman's personality, quips, and confidence. And think that will eventually translate into wins.

I don't see much difference between that and rubbing a rabbit's foot...

Of all times to compare the QBs, it's not after a week where Jones has been coughing up the ball like a pez dispenser against horrible competition. As good of a game as he had against the Pats is as lousy as this week against the Cards.
Jones sucks too so far
giantsFC : 10/22/2019 12:21 am : link
Laugh all you want at Dough Boy Darnold and Douche Rosen but our own butter fingers isn’t lighting it up either.

Not to mention the team has been so unfun to watch.

Giants are supposed to be known for feared defensive stars.

We haven’t had even one of those in a few years. And this team is really lacking

In the NFL... Barkley was the right choice. Is it always going to be a week to week thing around here about this?
Now it's Saquon's fault with a shitty Online,no other playmakers and a unqualified coach... give it a break!

Thanks for that photo. The guy in that picture I believe his name is Mike Einsenberg. He was interviewed during the 1978(Gordon King)draft and he and I won the NFL draft contest at the draft. He is a huge Jet fan. BTW, I though we were on the right path when we picked King, wrong again!
OK, I am perfectly willing to give him credit

Thanks for the information on him. I just know him from the Jets draft video that ESPN has run during the draft. I always enjoy that whenever I see it. Threads like this always end up with me watching it.

Unless Barkley's prime is over before Gettleman's rebuild is complete, in which case it'll be a cautionary tale about roster construction priorities during a rebuilding effort.

Just because you're willing to call it early doesn't make you right. Are you typically this premature in other facets of life too?

What! Jones at least look professional against the Pats and also has the only TD pass against them.

You equating their two performances against this team is perplexing.
DG gets credit
gmenatlarge : 10/22/2019 8:03 am : link
trying to prove himself right rather than make the team better. All of his moves just smacked of getting rid of the Reese guys, well that's fine but he then had to use draft capital and cap room to replace them. So here we are two years later and pretty much in the same place with a roster full of holes. While SB is great, this team needed to trade down and add multiple players, he is a nice addition to a good team, which the giants just are not. This team needed to ADD talent not just replace the same guys he jettisoned.

I wouldn't be so quick to praise Jones over Darnold, BB brought the house constantly against darnold while not so much on Jones. Probably because they could pressure Jones with just 4 down lineman. If they had brought the same pressure on Jones it could have been just as ugly!

That's not the point. It's not about Saquon not being a great player (he is), it's about value. We got torched by a 4th round pick RB (who is far better than people are giving him credit for). A very good OL can give you 10+ years. A RB playing into his 10th season is an outlier.

Looks like he is the goods while the others have not looked good. However let’s not break our arms patting him on the back. The Giants are 7-16 during his stewardship of the team.
I like how a GM's value is measured in

the mistakes he doesn't make.

Yeah, anyone could be a GM with that low a benchmark.

wreak of insecurity. If you want to ignore the really good game Darnold played last week and think he is a bust because of last night's game, have at it. You just won't find many people who agree with you.

There is a reason you don't see all kinds of articles about what a great job Gettleman has done. There is no evidence that this team is getting better in the standings. Most people will evaluate him on results, but again you are free to use whatever measuring stick you like.

I don't disagree with you, but there are bad games, and there are displays like last night. If DJ put up a stinker like that, then yes, I would be concerned about his future.
Shouldn't he have done what Indy did?

I mean by all means Nelson and Braden Smith are much better picks combined than just Barkley.. they had 2 additional 2nd round picks on top of that..

Yes. Darnold is still immature and has a long ways to go. The Pats beat the Jets in first 5 minutes.. It took them over 3 qtrs. with our depleted and less talented team. So many people see what they want to see and never apply logic. Too many democrats lol kidding not really

Saquon was the right choice for many reasons -leadership, talent, emotional maturity, toughness, and marketing.
