NGT: What happened to the Pats between 2004 and 2014?

BestFeature : 10/22/2019 12:02 am
This is very strange to me. The team was legendary between 2001 and 2004, as well as between 2014 and 2019, but in between, it was a mixed bag although they had arguably their best team in 2007. Props to those Giants of 2007 and 2007. But regardless of those 2 SB losses, they were clearly not as good during that period. Bill still made chicken salad out of chicken shit. I remember the 2011 Pats having like the worst D passing yards-wise but still being respectable in points against, never allowing more than 30. That said there was a period when the greatest defensive coach in history had awful defenses. Really strange, anyone else think this?

after his early struggles against the Patriots, started to turn the tide against them. Baltimore was a thorn too
But other than 2007 those teams weren't that amazing

As I said they were bottom of the barrel in terms of defense. They had that one great team that was 14-2 that the Jets upset.

Is what happened to them.
what you're really asking is what happened in 2014

to turn them into today's juggernaut.

Tom Brady and Alex Guerrero TB12 sports therapy center was opened at Patriot's Place (across the parking lot from the stadium) in September of 2013.
interesting question

I think they changed their identity sometime around 2013. Belichick spoke of this on one of the NFL shows. He was looking at tape and recognized when they had Moss they had like one weapon and it was a big play offense.

He totally changed the offensive system and it has evolved to what we see today.

As others have said there were a few really good teams in the AFC at that time as well.

Yep, the Manning boys took 3 or more trophies away from them.

They just couldn’t finish. But they were still great.

2005: 10-6
2006: 12-4
2007: 16-0
2008: 11-5
2009: 10-6
2010: 14-2
2011: 13-3
2012: 12-4
2013: 12-4
Totals: 110-34, 76.3% winning percentage

Brady got hurt game 1 in 2008, yet they went 11-5 with Matt Cassell. And I don’t think he was quite right in 2009 when he returned from the knee injury. It’s not like Brady is this great athlete, so I think his recovery took longer...

I mean, who in their right mind wouldn’t sign up for those records over 9 years..,

Well, for starters....

...good teams weren't simply lining up off sides when Brady throws the game ending interception in a huge spot.

Stuff like that.

Other good teams actually made big plays and didn't crap the bed..............
I'd have to go back and verify this

but I think, on average, his cap number was bigger as a percentage of the cap during many of those years than it is now. The cap has risen a lot...yet Brady still takes a discount. That's a huge help with team building.

No Pete Carrol passing on the goal line and no 25 point super bowl comebacks.
And no helmet catches

and Eli making perfect throws to Manningham in critical situations.
