NFT: Knicks Chat: Nets 2019 success major reason for signing

DanMetroMan : 10/22/2019 10:27 am
“I just liked the organization as far as the direction they were going in – a bunch of young guys that played in the playoffs before,” Durant said of the Nets. “The Knicks players, they‘re good young players but they still need more experience to match where I was in my career. It was nothing major against the Knicks. I just think Brooklyn is further along in the process of being a contender.”

while what he's saying
Enzo : 10/22/2019 10:38 am : link
about where the respective franchises are at this moment in time is obviously true, I think that was probably at the bottom of his list of reasons for why he chose Brooklyn.
I wish they'd just stop
Jan in DC : 10/22/2019 10:39 am : link
asking him the question. We get it. They won last year, Knicks haven't won in a long time and that's important. Nothing more to see here.
I wonder how heavily
Ron Johnson : 10/22/2019 10:43 am : link
playing in a half empty building every night weighed in the decision
Durant
TyreeHelmet : 10/22/2019 10:50 am : link
I think once the Nets locked in Irving it was over. I think playing with him was the most important factor for him. But I do think the Nets had advantages.

Better GM and Coach
Better players right now- Lavert/ Dinwiddie/ Harris/ Allen

And Brooklyn is the hot place right now. The Knicks have a stink on them that they haven’t been able to wash off. That definitely played a part- he said so himself with his “cool” comments.
And the fact
sometimeswrite : 10/22/2019 11:33 am : link
Durant has yet to acknowledge that the Knicks stated very clearly to anyone who was listening that they were focused on a youth movement.

Are you saying the Knicks didn't want Durant or other max FAs?

Well put, but certainly depressing for us Knicks fans.
Mitch sprains his ankle in practice.

Questionable for tomorrow.
And for coach
sometimeswrite : 10/22/2019 12:02 pm : link
Fizdale and his complaining about ball stops after the Atlanta game, well coach all of those ball stops that I saw were directly related to the other 4 Knicks not moving but standing. That's on you coach. And why did it take 3 1/2 quarters to decide to shut down Trae Young off of the high picks and not having the pick defender step out earlier on. Was that on the defender and you just didn't see it or was it a planned strategy to let Young control those 3 1/2 quarters.

I don't think they were. That may be wishful thinking on my part, because I wanted no parts of a 32 year old getting a max contract coming off an ACL injury.

100% they were and rightfully so in my mind. You think if Durant wanted to be a Knick they would say no we are good? You can't honestly believe that. Why give that statement on the first day of free agency then?
If the Knicks
MookGiants : 10/22/2019 12:57 pm : link
were .500 in a terrible conference not one person in the media would act like the season was any type of success.

Nets go .500, win nothing, and somehow they had some great season.

well stories started leaking 2 weeks before free agency who the knicks were targeting and that is who they ended up signing..

so it is quite possible they moved on when he got hurt, terry rozier said hr was going to the knicks the night before free agency...

so either they knew they were not getting him or they moved on..

I don't agree. If the Knicks went .500, made the playoffs, all with a young roster and a ton of cap space coming up the next offseason, they'd be rightfully thought of as an up and coming team and would be desirable to free agents.

hahahahahahahahaha
So the writer who Durant and his camp are closest to (Chris Haynes)
shockeyisthebest8056 : 10/22/2019 1:27 pm : link
just had no clue what he was talking about when said the Knicks were the favorite for weeks and months leading up to his injury, but he was right about everything else in terms of when the decision would be made and how?

KD picked the Nets. Stop trying to justify it and just move on already.
It is really simple

Knicks did not want kyrie by himself for a year, as soon as that happened durant was not coming..
Shelburne and Woj report

The Knicks and owner Jim Dolan were not prepared to offer Kevin Durant a full max contract due to concerns over his recovery from the Achilles injury, league sources tell me and @wojespn.

I presume Woj would not let his name be used by Shelburne without his approval.

I tend to believe this sourcing over anything else I have read/heard.

no max - ( New Window )
From Zach Lowe's Prediction column
TyreeHelmet : 10/22/2019 2:25 pm : link
"Utah trades Dante Exum and Tony Bradley for (maybe) Marcus Morris"

"I like this trade for both teams, even if both would likely say "no" now. It's an all-in move for Utah -- their means of nabbing another backup power forward and someone with a track record of jostling with the big wings in Los Angeles. New York gets a high-lottery talent who just turned 24.

Yeah, the Knicks have three point guards. So what? Exum has been at least as much wing as point guard for a while now."
Unlike
DanMetroMan : 10/22/2019 2:30 pm : link
most of the "we can probably trade him at the deadline for..." Morris seems like he might legit have value.
I understand the Durant talk, don't begrudge it to anyone,
81_Great_Dane : 10/22/2019 2:42 pm : link
but to me, it's boring. He's not on the team. Neither is Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard or, I dunno, almost everyone else in the league. His insight is old news and his opinion isn't interesting. Big yawn.

that Trier may start along with RJ, Morris, Randle and Portis (Mitch has a sprained ankle). Nothing set in stone, but I like the thinking. RJ is most comfortable with the ball in his hands and has been a willing passer thus far. Spread the court with your two best shooters from the wing - Trier and Morris - and let him operate.

One thing to keep an eye on is that teams can “steal” a couple of free days for Two-Way players this week. The days of service clock doesn’t start until the first day of G-League training camp (Oct. 28). Could help a team like GSW that’s been hit with injuries.
Dante Exum?

Just what the Knicks need, yet another guy who can't shoot.

So the outcome of the competition between our three point guards is that none of them starts? Weird.

Too bad about Mitch but it's a long season and at least we have some depth now.

none of the 3 stood out, and i am a fan of smith, but when barrett played the 1 the offense looked better..

plus if the ball is going to run through randle and morris the need for a traditional ppint guard is not high..

Knocks also can run a very big lineup
