Is there one last open window for Bill B?

BillyM : 10/22/2019 1:05 pm
I know it has been discussed before. With that said, as Shurmur continues to stumble, the thought of a regime change grows, AGAIN.

To that, given that Bill B really liked what he saw in Daniel Jones and the current state of our coaching is not living up to expectations, is there one last run in him somewhere else, perhaps here?

Getty himself said he wants nothing more than to set the team up with a new QB, before retiring to the Cape. He is on a 3-4 year time frame, max.

We all know Bill's love of the organization. It takes a lot for the guy to break down in tears. That is exactly what he did when they ran the documentary of the Bill's in the old stadium. "I never thought it would end this way."

I think equally, he would love to win at least one as the head coach of this organization, one time, without Brady. I have to believe it is in his bucket list. No?

The question is, does Mara have the chops to pull it off?

Until Belichick says no, I'm going to have faith that it could happen.

And if Mara doesn't even explore it, he should just wear a big, red clown nose in public.

He's the greatest of all time. I think the Giants are the ONLY other gig he would take. Let's not forget him and Kraft pretty much hate each other.

Just like a genius kid constantly needs new challenges. I think he would really love one new shot at starting fresh.

My take. Winning one with the Giants, would bolster his legacy more than 3 more with the Pats.

My thought process
BillyM : 10/22/2019 1:14 pm : link
Bill secretly would love the chance. He loves the Giants. Words out of his mouth.

Mara has to be growing super worried that this constant carousel of coaches and lack of success is hurting business, fan loyalty, his seat at the NFL table.

I think he would absolutely try to move heaven and earth to make it happen. And frankly, I don't think Getty would mind going more into an advisory role ahead of retirement. I'm unsure if he even wants to be GM more than a couple years. Again, words out of his mouth.

Far crazier things have happened.

1. Would the Giants give total control? Will take a lot more booing in the stadium and media pressure to maybe get Mara to fold.

2. I think he has been grooming his son so this will be a big factor imo. Would he rather his son to continue on New England or with the Giants?

3. If he gave up coaching maybe he just runs the New England front office, McDaniels takes over and his son is the DC? Or maybe coach the Giants and pass it along to Mcdaniels and his son and run the front office?

Hit the nail on the head

I just think right now, with favorable cap freeing up, a youthful team, a future QB in place....I think the small window is right now. McDaniels takes over in NE, Bill and his son come to NJ.

thing I'll says is this:

BBI started in 1995, when Giants fans were quickly souring on Dan Reeves.

Back then, some original BBIers suggested we contact Bill Parcells about coming back.

Most (probably me included) said that was a pipe dream.

Later we learned that Parcells did have some interest, but the Giants apparent did not.

Stranger things have happened.

The Giants would be better off with Belichick and no roster than they are right now. There's no resource I wouldn't give in trade for him.

That said, I doubt he has interest.

He talks better about the Giants organization then he does the Patriots he hates Craft and deep down I think he hates that Brady gets as much credit for the SB wins as he does. You offer whatever it takes to get him to include to promise him to give him the ability to turn it over to his son when he retires and i think he comes back home

He's always had a soft spot for the Giants. The emotion he showed in the two Bills documentary spoke volumes to me.

The real question is whether or not ownership would ever allow him to be the de facto GM.
It all seems like fantasy until you look at the set up
BillyM : 10/22/2019 1:25 pm : link
Bill B and Kraft are not on great terms. Either is coach and Brady.

Although he is the GOAT, it goes without saying the two GOATS (him and Brady) would only fortify their status by doing it un-tethered from the other.

McDaniels is already being groomed as the heir to the thrown. Brady not going anywhere.

Giants, unlike two years ago, probably have their QB of the future, who Bill B wanted later in the first. Bill B doesn't mess around with first rounders.

Cap is opening up, a lot of the dead weight gone. Plenty of flexibility for him to draft/sign his guys for his system.

Ownership loves him, he's one of us. Equally he loves the franchise.

Shurmur is not the guy, and frankly Bill doesn't need to keep winning in NE. Frankly, he doesn't need anything but a boat and a good scotch. But a challenge, that is truly unique.

He comes home, ends it where he started, and passes the torch to his son. Who I believe he wants working under the Mara's versus Kraft.

There was the whole Belihcick to the Giants rumors and when he was asked about it the week before the Pats/Titans playoff game he replied, "right now my focus is on the Titans."

Always found that an odd answer from him. For one he'd usually just ignore questions like that and not even bother, but also the use of the words "right now" stuck out to me. He could have just said my focus is on the Titans, but he added the "right now" which is another unusual thing for him to do when dealing with the media.

Who knows.

seems like every time Belichick is engaged in a serious conversation about the Giants, he gets borderline misty-eyed.

You would have thought that with the amount of time that has passed, his greater (by far) professional success in New England, and the way the Giants passed on him as a future HC, he wouldn't feel that strongly about the organization anymore. But at least publicly, he seems to still admire the team.
I don't think the Giants have the cojones to do it
Greg from LI : 10/22/2019 1:36 pm : link
And I don't think Belichick would be interested anyway. That said: the franchise has absolutely nothing to lose by handing Belichick a blank check and absolute power over all football operations and saying "Hey, it's all yours if you want it."

of BB coming here. It comes up every time we have a HC/GM search, we even get all of the alleged smoke signals. I think when his time in NE is over, he'll retire.
He spent 13 seasons in NY
Greg from LI : 10/22/2019 1:40 pm : link
It wasn't his first coaching job, but it was where he worked his way up from special teams coach to LBs coach to DC. He was a key component of two championship teams. As we saw in The Two Bills, while his relationship with Parcells had its rocky moments, he learned a lot from the Tuna. And Lawrence Taylor was the greatest player he will ever coach, his feeling about LT being on display when he curtly dismissed a reporter's question comparing Khalil Mack to LT.

Not surprising to me that he still has a place in his heart for the Giants.
Would it cement Getty's legacy, in a good way
BillyM : 10/22/2019 1:40 pm : link
If he helped broker it.

In essence, "I helped get the greatest coach of all time back in our house, plus our future QB."

It would put Getty into mythical status. It would be the ultimate drop mic moment for a GM, as he sails off into the Cape Cod sunset

You are probably correct, but this was the same argument made about Parcells back in the 1990s. And we LATER found out that Parcells WAS interested.

seems like a BB QB. I bet he would love him.
True, but....
Greg from LI : 10/22/2019 1:44 pm : link
Parcells always had that wanderlust and desire to climb the next mountain. Belichick has been in New England for 20 seasons now - Parcells' entire NFL head coaching career was 19 seasons, split up among four teams. It would be more surprising if a 68 year old Belichick took on a massive rebuilding project in 2020 than a 56 year old Parcells in 1997.
Does anyone think Mara would let DG go after two years?
Zeke's Alibi : 10/22/2019 1:46 pm : link
He just isn't that a good a businessman. He's a guy that inherited a football team. Mara is too much of a bitch to make this happen, probably be scared to tell the guy they were letting him go after two years.

I like DG and what he has done for the most part, but if I owned the team I'd jettison him in a second if that's what it took. Although they could probably work something out, DG remains GM and is in charge of scouting, BB is coach and president and gets final say on football decisions.

Well, the topic wouldn't keep coming up if we didn't need a new coach every few years.

When the greatest of all time practically comes to tears talking about his old team, you bet your butt he better be in some conversation when a coaching search kicks up. Each and every time, until he definitively says no. Which he never did, once.

It could be at the end of the season, who knows. i couldnt find any information on it. I would think that if BB wanted to coach the Giants he would make it known and if he was available he would be a candidate.

If he was/is available I would hope that the Giants would make an effort to hire him.

BB is a legend already and I dont think him coming here could add anything to that even if he wins multiple Superbowls here. But it could hurt his legacy if he comes here and fails. Parcells never won without BB but BB won without Parcells, the same may be able to be said about BB and Brady one day.

I would love to see it but I doubt it will ever happen.

If you draft Daniel Jones in the 1st, you need to have a good backup who can step in on a rainy day. I mean literally, if it rains, you cannot start Daniel Jones. Here are 10 throws on a wet day in Miami: pic.twitter.com/2dZra4Cz8O
