Ereck Flowers

Why didnt the Giants ever try him at guard? I'm not saying he's playing like an all-pro, but in the games I've seen, he definitely looks ok there. It was either we were so stubborn, or we had no other real options to cover both OT positions. Either way, we should have at least tried it.

I know this is going to get a rise out of the FLowers haters (justified) but I'm just going by what I see.

I think his problems on the Giants
Pork Chop : 10/22/2019 2:11 pm : link
were more attitude/motivation than being in the wrong position.

Flowers wouldn't start over our two guards. So this is largely moot.
I think they did
Rory B. Bellows : 10/22/2019 2:12 pm : link
but something like agent wouldn't let him leave the LT spot.

....2 teams later, oh, I have to do this if I wanna stay in the league? ok
i recall reading that moving to OG was mentioned to him
japanhead : 10/22/2019 2:13 pm : link
and he rebuffed the suggestion, wanting to be paid OLT money on his next contract or some such. following that, his attitude got progressively worse along with his play so they just wanted him out of the building, period.

i dont disagree with him not starting over Will and Zeitler, but what about before? It might have changed our strategy. I'm not saying it would have even worked, but why not try to salvage your first round bust?

He has looked better at Guard for Redskins
Jimmy Googs : 10/22/2019 2:31 pm : link
than he looked at LT and/or RT for the Giants.

However, "better" is semantics as he was basically a coach-killer at Tackle...
He looks better in a Redskin uniform.
johnnyb : 10/22/2019 2:51 pm : link
Glad he is not a Giant. Attitude sucked.

Before the latest regime, I think it was combination of poor evaluation by management/coaching staff combined with the player's reluctance to make the move. With the new regime, he only played a couple of games before getting benched.

Sorry
moaltch : 10/22/2019 3:50 pm : link
you had to read this, thought it was a fair question.
I think the issue was attitude and lack of professionalism
JonC : 10/22/2019 3:51 pm : link
as much as poor performance, thus the quicker trigger to get rid of him.
IIRC
Photoguy : 10/22/2019 3:53 pm : link
BBI was pretty much ecstatic that he was gone.
We should..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/22/2019 3:54 pm : link
be ecstatic he's gone.

And he's still really bad.

It is like people keep trying to convince the board he's playing well this year.

Well, Eric and I wanted to see the Giants try it while he was here...

My guess is that is his best spot.

Not sure why folks think he's going to do better at right tackle, a position he has never played. He'll have the same technique issues over there. Guard will be easier for him.

I agree with you. I don't think there's much to gain by putting him @ RT.

RG is probably going to be his best spot. Some of the clumsy footwork and technique will be minimized a bit there.

I think Flowers will be better against DT's. He seems to struggle against DE's who are quick around the edge. He often fails to engage them and gets beat by quicks much more often than he gets beaten by strength.

He's very strong, I think if he can use his strength in smaller spaces, he'll be better off.

Obviously OG still requires athleticism and the ability to get to the second level or pull on iso's and powers - but I think Flowers will fare much better @ OG.

Fingers crossed.

Obviously it doesn't matter now - and both of our current guards are better than he is. But, I would liked to have seen NYG at least attempt it.

(I know, he's playing LG in DC... I said RG because I believe we had a bigger hole there at the time or had just signed Omameh to play LG...)
I've
AcidTest : 10/22/2019 3:57 pm : link
seen a number of Redskins. There are a few stretches where he actually looks good, or at least decent, but there are also huge segments were he is really bad.
good grief
bluepepper : 10/22/2019 3:59 pm : link
whether it's people foaming at the mouth with hatred for the guy or more sympathetic takes I just don't want to hear about him anymore. You'd think he was the first top-10 draft pick in history to bust the way some people around here dwell on him.
Good riddance
TyreeHelmet : 10/22/2019 4:09 pm : link
Awful pick and terrible player...

IIRC the Giants wanted to try him out at guard but he refused.
Who knows ...
Beer Man : 10/22/2019 6:43 pm : link
IMO he should have been placed at OG his rookie year. It didn't happen, he's gone, and the team is currently weak at OT; which he stunk at.
He sucked as a Tackle
chuckydee9 : 10/23/2019 8:30 am : link
He sucks as a guard.. He may suck less as a guard but thats not a reason to keep anyone.. he is not a competent guard.. even as a guard, he is so bad that the offense cannot function properly..
I don't think he wanted to play at Guard here.
Brown Recluse : 10/23/2019 9:40 am : link
Just my guess. From everything we've read during his time here, he was largely just a pain in the ass who none of the coaches could get through too. And after the Giants/Redskins game, he didn't hold back about how much he hates it here.

So my assumption is that he just refused.
Hes not a good guard either
djstat : 10/23/2019 11:03 am : link
Their tackles are just worse
