NFT: Pilonidal cyst - BRUTAL

Rick5 : 10/22/2019 4:43 pm
Anyone ever have one of these? Brutal. I had surgery to remove it under general anesthesia. Was out of work for a week. I went back and all of the sitting led to more bleeding, and the doc had me take off last Thursday and Friday. Went back this week - same problem started again. Now I will be out 1-2 weeks with a home health nurse coming every day because the incision next closed up right.
Never closed

Up right.
Perhaps use a standing desk for awhile

am sorry you are in pain. Best wishes.
I have one

Doctor said they can just grow back so I haven't had it removed.

It is PAINFUL when it flares up. I have a standing desk so when it is bad I just stand more.
they're no joke

I knew a guy who ended up getting medically discharged from the Marines because of recurring cysts.
It is rough

One of my college roommates had one and he was in some of the worst pain I’ve ever seen a person in. Best wishes on a speedy recovery
Man, I'm sorry to heat that, Rick

Truly a pain in the ass.
Been there...
Homersimpson : 10/22/2019 5:05 pm : link
it was awful. Sorry you have to deal with it.
My old man had one.

He got lucky and the surgery went well, that was about 55 years ago...Keep the faith Rick.
Yeah they are rough.
BH28 : 10/22/2019 5:26 pm : link
Once it heals properly, you should be good to go... Assuming they got all the roots out, it won't grow back

Get an ergonomic chair that takes pressure off the area. Use a standing desk as much as possible.
Had one fixed right....

They literally cut a crater in my ass. I had a hole with a drain. Wife had to pack it with cotton every night. Out of work for two weeks but it finally healed. Bled on and off for years before having it done.
I did about 30 years ago

Most painful thing ever. I got it and it burst when I was in California On business. I had to fly home In so much pain. I had it removed and when they removed the stitches, that were essentially piano wire, they missed one. Hurt for a week before I went back and they figured out what was up.

I used a donut for quite some time. It helped a ton.
Had a lot when I was a teen
newjacksm : 10/22/2019 7:56 pm : link
I had just gotten it drained under local. I am sure the healthcare is a lot better now. I havent had it come back, but I have had worse cysts come up near there, if you can only imagine...which is by far worse...
I have a feeling if I google that ....

Not rick5 (not sure what happened with you Rick and I really hope you heal up fast and well) but, this guy just looks like he had his tail removed. I've been thinking about doing it for years.

Not so bad - ( New Window )

I can't really stand in the type of work I do. Kind of wish I just took off a couple of weeks from the beginning to let it heal right. Lesson learned.

I’m telling ya, if you don’t have one, get a donut. It was my saving grace when I had mine.
memorably awful, like the current giants.

I had to keep working, up, down........i took a lot of hot Epsom salt baths, as hot as i could stand, then finally.....one soaking, mercy struck.....it opened, and i heard angels.......never came back, and like former losing head coaches, its never welcomed back.

Yep! My dad was a #1 tank driver back in 51-52, and had surgery, and had dealt with it for years! No joke, he was always bitching about it!
These days maybe they’ve come along in treatment, I wish you all the best!!
This brings me back memories... i had it when i was 16.
GMAN4LIFE : 10/23/2019 10:17 am : link
so it grew and grew right at the tailbone. Finally my dad said it needs to be removed.

3 inches was the cut. They had to dig deep. Basically its a fucking hair that grew and grew causing this shit. The hair grew so long, it was as long as 6 inches. My crack is extra long.

Recovery was a bitch. Its the worst. You cant sit without bleeding. I was out of school for 2 weeks because of it. Watch tv standing, sleep on my stomach, eat standing. The thing is they cant stitch it up so you need to let it heal on its own. When i was cleared to go to school, i had a semi maxi pad on my area and it still went through my school pants. I had to take tests on a podium.

here is the kicker. years later, it kind of came back. These fucking hairs. I went back to the doctor and he just had to burn the area. I was 25 this time. Just a fucking nightmare.

Now i havent had any issues thank the lord.

For any of you that read this, trust me. all of this annoying crap was way better than the pain of sitting on that cyst. Get it done. Yes its a painful recovery but it needs to be removed
I had one

needed surgery, not fun
Had one removed via laser surgery in the 80's...

...in office. BIG MISTAKE.

General Anesthesia felt like he put a cigar out in my butthole.

Then he goes to work, and I can feel blood running, and I can smell myself cooking. GOOD STUFF, right??

He eventually says - "This really should've been outpatient in a hospital - it's a lot deeper than I expected".

Went home face-first in the back seat of my old mans LTD. Open wound the size of a lemon took a couple of weeks to heal.

Still have a gruesome scar back there. Will show on request.

Did this? How did you come to use it and the surgeon who performed the operation? Very, very sorry for how this has gone for you and hope you turn the corner soon.

Have one. Not helpful at this stage though. I just need to stand or be in bed.

Had one as a teen. No surgery
