Staying in Playoff Contention in 2019

Scoreboard Ball Spike : 10/22/2019 7:20 pm
The purpose of this post IS NOT to debate whether or not we have the right coach for our future.

The purpose of this post IS NOT to debate whether or not we actually have a chance to do anything in the playoffs even if we do make it.

The purpose of this post IS to give some energy to the fans that enjoy ups and downs of a football season and love the buzz that comes with keeping hope for making the playoffs.

If we win 2 in a row, no mater what happens, we are only a half game behind the cowboys. The Eagles play the bills and the bears over the next two weeks. If they win them both, we are one game behind them. If they split, we are tied. If they lose them both, we are a game ahead.

In summary, if we can win two in a row, here are the standings WORST CASE SCENARIO:

EAGLES 5-4
COWBOYS 4-4
GIANTS 4-5

After these two weeks Eagles next 2 games:
Seahawks
Patriots

After these two games Cowboys next 7 games
Vikings
Lions
Patriots
Bills
Bears
Rams
Eagles

SO, let's get excited about another chance to win this Sunday. Because if we do, we have a BIG TIME game against the cowboys on Monday Night football to save our season.

dont call me a troll because I am a new poster. I cant figure out how to activate my old handle, I have been around since this was called Pete's Corner. I love BBI, and am very sincere with this post.
This team will be extremely fortunate to win 5 games.

Playoffs?

Really?

Hope for playoffs, not playoffs.

If we win two in a row, I guarantee you everyone here gets excited again. Is 2 wins in a row, while not probable, really that outrageous to hope for?

Seems like that should have been accompanied by your old handle, don't you think?
11-5 baby! Here we go!

Our next two games are against the Lions and Cowboys.
Mike from SI : 10/22/2019 7:28 pm : link
We really only have 3 truly winnable games left: NYJ, MIA, and WAS. We of course may win one or two of the other games because the NFL is fluky, but I really just don't see it with this group.

More of a regular lurker than poster. My first post was when I was 12 years old and fatman in Charlotte ripped me apart, lol.

Met BigBlue56' at a Cardinal game. Met up with LIP at the 2011 SF NFC Championship game Have donated 4-or 5 years.
The NYG aren’t serious playoff contenders

Let’s be real here.

Reasons for Optimism @ Lions
Scoreboard Ball Spike : 10/22/2019 7:39 pm : link
DJ is a smart kid. I believe he will start to decrease the ints and fumbles, lets start next week.

Our O-Tackles played like garbage. I believe Remmers and Soldier are prideful guys, they are going to bring it next week.

Barkley had a mini regression game. His focus was on the ankle and forgot what he had learned in year 1: pass pro and not losing yards on a dead play. He will get it right next week.

EE is having a great year. He was drop free through 6 games, He will snap back to that form next week. one bad game.

Defense has shown improvement. Back to a standard offense to show they are getting better, last week was a gimmicky team and got the best of them.

Lions starting RB is out.

Tate has show great leadership qualities in a loss, I expect him to helo the offense to decrease the bad plays with a strong presence in practice this week.

Our special teams are awesome as long a sRosas is making his field goals, lets get back to 100% this week.

What else?

I’m in

I invest too much time waiting for the season to not keep hoping. In sports you can be dreamers and realistic at the same time—no rules on how to enjoy.

I don’t think we have the right coach but I am not going to root for loses. I can also know going into a lot of the games that we will probably lose but I will still watch it like they will win.
Totally agree.
Rico : 10/22/2019 7:52 pm : link
The Cowboys were 3-5 last year and ready to fire their coach. Then they won the division.

Famous Bill Parcells quote (I'm paraphrasing): Keep doing the things that give you the best chance to win until you are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

We are a long way from mathematically eliminated. I saw a lot of spirit from our defense in the 4th quarter last week. The players haven't given up. There is a chance.
Yep

Any given Sunday! Go Giants.
Does someone need to post that gif of Jim Mora?

Hey, we're fans!
Y.A. : 10/22/2019 8:53 pm : link
What's the point if we can't get excited every now and then--all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding. We'll all be rooting to beat DET next week. And then, who knows what could happen? Go Giants!
Love the Giants
Rick in Dallas : 10/22/2019 9:04 pm : link
But this team as presently composed is not close to being a playoff contender. Maybe in 2 years after good drafts and FA signings
The Lions are better than what most people think
JohnB : 10/22/2019 9:16 pm : link
they are at home
they are giving 6.5 in the betting line
and the Giants just got toasted by a team that is nowhere near the quality of the Lions.

Why do you think the Giants will win even ONE of the next two games?
I’m guessing you haven’t watched this team
UberAlias : 10/23/2019 5:42 am : link
This is not close to a playoff team. Any chance they have is a fluke of luck. Scale of measure for this team is years, not weeks.
What's that?
cjac : 10/23/2019 6:57 am : link
Ah - Playoffs? Don't talk about - playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game!
Come on, guys
Bramton1 : 10/23/2019 7:07 am : link
The OP was very clear this is not about whether we can make the playoffs (really doubt we can). It's pointing out that in order to make the playoffs, these next two games and extremely important. Personally, I don't see us winning either, but it's a nice dream.

What s a winnable game? Were the Cardinals one. When you use the term, “winnable game” there is the implication that any game not in that category is an un-winnable game.

What kind of game were the Cowboys for the Jets two weeks ago.

All games are winnable in the NFL and watching the next two games rooting for the Giants to get back in this thing is legitimate and exactly what I intend to do.

Houston was 0-4 last season after losing at home to the Giants. How many “winnable games” were left on their schedule. As it turned out, enough for them to make the play offs

Right. Nowhere near in quality. Except for the fact that they played each other this season and ended in a tie. Nowhere near.
Sure. FiveThirtyEight says the Giants have a 24%
mikeinbloomfield : 10/23/2019 12:49 pm : link
chance to beat Detroit. Let's say they win that game. Right now they also have the Giants at 24% chance to beat Dallas. If they beat Detroit, let's say that goes up to 30%.

Taken together, that means we have a 7% chance to win both.
NFL predictions - ( New Window )
You are correct that if we win the next 2
Rudy5757 : 10/23/2019 1:35 pm : link
this site will get back in the playoff spirit. I root every week to win and our 1st halves have been horrible so far. Our young players have to take a jump in order for this team to succeed. last years draft class has not done that. I havent seen it yet. the whole class has under performed including Barkley. Dalvin Tomlinson and Engram from 2017 have not taken the leap either. If this team is to turn it around most of those players have to start playing like vets.

If we can win the next 2 we will be back in the we have a chance bucket.
Posted with all the confidence.....

Of Baghdad bob. Worst head coach in the league.
thank you for your optimism
fame56 : 10/23/2019 2:26 pm : link
its just that many of us, especially those among us that were treated to the LT-Parcells years of '84-92 and the joy those teams brought to us, are getting tired of the losing efforts of the last several years.

sure, there are several other NFL teams that have had it as bad or worse than us over the last decade or so. We're sick of being part of that group and desire a return to the upper echelon of game day performances and victories.
I'm optimistic
JonC : 10/23/2019 2:28 pm : link
they'll win 4-5 games.
I'll oblige
tikimvp : 10/23/2019 2:35 pm : link
and abstain from commentary on the likelihood of playoffs.

Should we win the next 2 games, there really is no question that we have a demonstrably favorable remaining schedule as compared to the eagles and cowboys.
