WR Sterling Shepard -- November 2, 2019

Q: How excited are you to get back out there?
A: I’m pretty excited. Sitting out for three games is tough, so I’m looking forward to getting back and getting back in the swing of things.

Q: What do you think this offense is going to look like with you and Golden (Tate III) and Evan (Engram) and Saquon (Barkley) all out there together? We haven’t seen that all year.
A: It looks pretty good on paper, we’ve just got to go out and execute. We’ve got playmakers, guys that can make big plays, so we’ve got to go out there and execute our job and do just that.

Q: Any reservations on your end? Any concerns going forward here?
A: No, no concerns. I’ve done everything that the trainers have asked me to do, and I’m just moving forward from here.

Q: Do you have to play it safe though? Like if you feel anything, do you handle it differently or something like that?
A: Yeah, of course. I mean, it’s scary getting two concussions, so I definitely will be honest on how I’m feeling and be honest with the trainers.

Q: Is it hard getting used to the new helmet? It looks like 14 sizes too big.
A: I have the same helmet I’ve worn every game.

Q: Really? Because it just looks bigger then.
A: That’s the same helmet, boss.

Q: You don’t have to change anything in regards to that?
A: No. I think it was just an unfortunate situation last time. If you put anybody’s head in any helmet underneath that and a guy just lands directly on your head, it’s going to happen.

Q: What will it be like having your full complement out there for the first time on offense?
A: Just like I said before, we have playmakers who have to go out there and make plays. We’ve got to be assignment sound and, like I said, it looks good on paper, but we have to go out and execute.

Q: What have these last few weeks been like for you?
A: Tough, watching your brothers go out there and play, and you not being able to go out there and contribute. But, just focused on getting healthy and trying to get back.

Q: Did you understand that decision? I know you would have loved to come back, but you kind of had to wait it out.
A: Yeah, it’s a tough deal with concussions. They don’t really know much about them and about the brain, so you have to give yourself time to recover and I understood that part of it. Was I happy about it? Probably not, but I understood it.

Q: Were you at points where you felt like you could play and were ready to go? How frustrating was that when you know you have to just let it ride out?
A: Yeah, it’s pretty frustrating. Usually, with an ankle you can feel it and if it’s not feeling good. With the head, you can go a week feeling great and feeling 100 percent and not really being 100 percent. So, you look at that and, yeah, it’s tough. It’s tough sitting out and feeling 100 percent, but you’ve got to listen to the doctors and that’s what I did.

Q: I’m drawing a blank on the guy, but there’s another guy who suffered a second concussion and he went to go seek out a second opinion, or just to sort of educate himself. Did you contemplate doing that? Did you do that?
A: I did do that. I want to be as knowledgeable as I can of what I can do with this type of stuff and what I can do going forward just to know what’s going on inside my body and going on with my brain.

Q: What did you learn?
A: I learned a lot of stuff. Different supplements to take that are approved by the league and different MRI’s that I can see the structural part of my brain, things like that, that are helpful

Q: Is there any trepidation, or worry at all?
A: I’m just focused on going forward from here. I’ve listened to everything the trainers have had me do and I feel good. I feel great, I’m ready to go out and play, just focused on going forward.

Q: You just pretty much have to do what you do, you can’t worry?
A: Yea, you can’t think about it or I won’t be the player that I am. Once that happens, I don’t need to play this game if I can’t go out and be the player that I am. I’m not going to be thinking about other stuff, I’m going to be thinking about making plays.

Q: I assume since you started playing there is a baseline picture of your brain they had, have the two concussions changed that at all
A: I’m not a doctor, so I can’t tell you. I know there was an image of everybody’s brain, but I’m not sure. That’s a pretty tough question to ask me, you would have to ask the doctors that.

Q: Do you have a feel for what it will be like to be back out there?
A: Yea, I sat out after the first week, probably the same feeling. (It’s a) divisional opponent, and this has to be a big win for us. I’m pretty excited about.
Wow, that interview was weird
