are we looking for tonight? A win obviously, but let's state the obvious and say that doesn't happen:
1. Is Shurmur capable of coaching a good, clean game with this roster? Methinks no, hoping to see some improvement with the coaching at any point here
2. Jones on the national stage vs Cowboys..let's see if he's up to task
3. Can we get Barkley involved early and sustain some long drives? Dallas seems to always have these 6-8 minute drives against us early...let's try and match that
4. Defense defense...looking forward to seeing Williams out there getting significant snaps.
will most likely do something stupid in desperation like he always does. Like go for it on a 4th down when he should punt, or punt when he should go for it. Or go for 2 way too early when he doesnt have to.
may apply to one game out of 12-16.:i think Monday night is different with some teams dominating Monday wins, and others losing in national games more frequently. I think, but havent done the stats that the Cowboys fall into the first over their history, and the Giants into the Second,
Given that, and with looking at our beloved giants team from coaching staff through all the players, our giants have little chance to win. I wonder if rookie qbs have ever won on a Monday night or national game? So giants should lose and given our secondary, should not cover.
only meeting turned out to be like most of our game plans- we talked about it, we set it up and then did nothing with it.
You know, thinking about it, the Giants don't really have any player leaders on this team anymore. There's not much leading Eli can do from the bench and even though Saquon and DJ seem wise beyond their years, they don't have any experience in the trenches. Nobody on the O-line that I can think of, nobody on the defense. Who are the player leaders on this team?
I hate these night games...just too late...midnight before getting to
bed. But I echo an earlier comment that I hope the game is competitive.
To me, this is the beginning of the evaluation of Shurmur and Bettcher...and I will be focusing on that. Are we getting better and is DJ continuing to improve?
Obviously, I would love to see us beat the obnoxious Cowboys and I hope and pray that they do but I am certainly not expecting it.
Our db's were nowhere near the wr's on multiple occasions.
My hope is that the secondary tightens up.
Perhaps it is just my delusional glass half full observation - but the past couple of weeks Baker seems a lot closer to the guy he is supposed to cover as opposed to running five yards behind him like the first couple of games.
Tighten up a bit more and we might have something.
Safeties are still way out of position too much
And then there is Amari Cooper... Hopeully Jackrabbit will be a bit closer this time...
The Cowboys scored on five or six straight drives in the first game
at 2-6, even after the way the past 8 years have gone and on the heels of a 4 game losing streak, I am still going into this game with the internal narrative of "If they win this game and the Jets game, they'll be in striking distance for the division going into the bye week." Dallas is the far better team, we just have to hope to contain Elliott and hope that the secondary can keep Cooper and Gallup, not to mention our old nemesis Witten and our modern day nemesis Jarwin, in check. The biggest source of hope that I have is that the pass rush, while not exceptional, has shown improvement since week 1. If they can force Dak into a few mistakes and end a few drives on sacks, this will be a winnable game.
sadly the script for this team has been the same since we played the Cowboys the 1st time. The defense hasnt shown up in the 1st quarter. Its like every team has early success and we have to play catch up.
I dont see us getting a win, we just dont have any legit top players yet. teams line up and do what they want on O. we have a lot of young players and they just dont know what it takes to win yet and we have very few vets who can show them the way.
I hope for a good competitive game and think we will continue to show some bright spots but the Cowboys are the better team right now and its not close.
RE: I don't see this defense consistently competing
poor (but building) teams get. At home, Monday night, against a hated rival, the players don't want to be embarrassed and the Cowboys are frankly overrated.
but they were missing their Oline that day. I am not sure what to expect with this team. I kind of hope they turn it up a bit and go hurry up, no huddle and make Dallas's defense stay in base for long stretches.
I think the offense could be good enough to pull off an upset but it's hard to imagine the defense being competitive.
I agree with you in general. But on the thursday night againt the Pats I felt like the D had their best game against an actual team even though we got thumped. If that D shows up we have a chance.
either they get completely blown out again or they get down three scores early, come back within one score and cant finish the deal or they tie/take a one-point lead and lose in the final seconds.
they should be able to move the ball. Dallas' defense isn't that good this season. Leighton Vander esch isn't supposed to play. Then it becomes a matter of red zone offense, which doesn't seem to be a Pat Shurmur strength.
The defense OTOH is a major issue. I expect that they'll slow down Zeke initially, but why should we have any faith in the pass defense? Baker is playing 1,000% better than in week 1, yet receivers still get open behind the defense due to the safeties and slot corner. Dak has killed the Giants. Bettcher's soft 3rd down defenses are horrific. The Cowturds are rested and the OL is relatively healthy.
TBH, IDGAF about anything other than Daniel Jones playing well and staying healthy.
Giants have given no indication at all that they can stop anyone
defensively and the Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the league. I expect Dak to have all night to pass the ball and Grant Haley to continue getting torched out of the slot.
Robert Quinn is playing out of his mind and Nate Solder looks like shit again. The turnover-prone Daniel Jones is in for a long night against this pass rush.
Gonna be ugly.

I have feelings that this is going to be shit show tonight

Cowboys offense is leaps and bounds better than the Pats O. Especially the O-line
Again, and I think we actually lose by more than week 1. Kris Richard and Marinelli will confuse and harass Daniel Jones into game killing turnovers and we will not do much offensively. Defensively, we still get gashed no matter what a team tries, passing or running. We have to totally commit to stopping one phase that whatever we choose to stop, the opponent simply counters and dumbass Bettcher does nothing. We trot out 7 DBs against the Cards and they see it and proceed to ram it down our throats. So we go bigger against the Lions and shock of all shocks they torch us passing. Everything is easy against this historically embarrassing defense. It's honestly sickening.

I just don't see us keeping the Cowboys off the board...
I loved that 1997 Giants D. When you have a D like that you have a shot every week. This team obviously doesn't.
It's a bumbling error prone offense featuring a rookie QB taking his lumps combined with a non-competitive D. I agree with Joey in VA right above - no chance. This will go similar to the Vikings game IMO. Never really a contest.

All signs point to that, can't argue...
However, the Cowboys were 7 point favorites a few weeks ago in this building as well, and lost to the Jets.
I've just completely soured on Shurmur. I fully expect to come out in Shotgun with a rookie QB and a run blocking OL, winging the ball all over the place against an excellent D.
And Bettcher will be exactly as described above. Basically we'll look cluelessly outcoached on both sides of the ball. I supported both of these guys when hired but not anymore.
Cowboys get up early due to Giants defense nonexistent on 3rd down and some Giants miscues (blown assignments or turnovers).
Giants claw back a bit in the first half and make it somewhat competitive at half time.
Dallas pulls away in the 2nd half.
Shurmur says we have to clean it up.
This is how I have it mapped out in my head and why I will probably fall asleep at halftime, wake up in the morning and see the exact highlights of the loss that I expected to see.
Hopefully I'm wrong.
Expect Witten to score another TD against his favorite team
Cowboys should win by about 17 points in front of their home crowd. Thats what makes this game sickening. Expect to see Jerry Jones mug several times during the broadcast.
I want to win

Run out a bulldozing wrecking crew of an OL.
More press D.
Someone piss off Zo Carter.
Release the Kraken.

Haha. Man, I can't tell if that's funny or sad. But it is reality.
There's always some friggin foible with this guy

Where exactly are they getting a "bulldozing wrecking crew of an OL"?

Set out to uncover some details from the heavily publicized "players-only meeting." Instead, I learned that the meeting didn't actually take place.
never mind - ( New Window )
The Giants have a guy....that already beat them this year....follow his lead and do it again.
I see a trend.

or maybe they are just not talking to the media? you know like they are supposed to..
Carl Banks said it perfectly if the media finds out details about players only meeting then the pkayers only meeting means nothing..

^This. I think Dallas wins this game easily, principally by controlling both lines of scrimmage. My guess is that they win by at least two touchdowns.
I think we thump them
Also heard Dallas D on 3 rd and seven overall has only allowed a 7% conversion rate.
I hesitate to share things I hear when I m casually listening, but pretty sure this is what I heard, I apologize if inaccurate
But if true in todays NFL where rules favor the offense, those stats are Astounding.

But every game is different and the last time the Cowboys came in to this stadium, they lost.
Need turnovers and big plays.
