concerning performance by DJ

AndyMilligan : 11/5/2019 12:00 am
I'm sure it will get better but this was bad by DJ. He couldn't even get through garbage time. I know the OL sucks. There are plenty of excuses. But he has to play a bit better and start improving. Too many fumbles, not enough ability to stick mid range throws, and the end was a clown show. This game was a bad sign. I believe he will improve... but I do not know that this kid is the answer.

And if you are being honest, you do not KNOW it yet either.

The guy is a fumbler plain and simple. He took care to wrap the ball up with both arms and still fumbled it. I doubt that can be fixed.
He’s done

A decent job for what’s surrounding him. But agreed that he needs to do better. Arm strength is fine, not concerned there. But he has to start putting it all together.

Not the same at all Tiki was actually holding the ball incorrectly

He at least needs a break...
bw in dc : 11/5/2019 12:09 am : link
He's becoming a total liability by the points he is giving away with turnovers.

In his defense, his coach, who I thought would really start to use his playbook to utilize Jones's full skills, has apparently forgotten the skills Jones has.

This entire season is just another disaster.
First game, I saw absolutely zero positives from him
BestFeature : 11/5/2019 12:10 am : link
It still wasn't some epicly terrible performance, but other than two drives where he looked like he was feeling it in I think the 2nd quarter, he was a big fat zero that fumbled a lot. The guy just can't figure out how to not fumble and that's concerning. He won't have a long NFL career if he doesn't figure that out.
I don't think he is our QB going forward, he has not shown me
NewBlue : 11/5/2019 12:12 am : link
More then a few glimpses we are so desperate for our savor we are cutting him too much slack does not take care of the ball, misses open receivers, holds the ball too long does not sense the pass rush

well he's all we got.. he's supposed to be the future. we stick with him for the next year or two.. that's just the way it is.
He stinks so far

Hell, Dave Brown looked better
He needs to build up some strength
George from PA : 11/5/2019 12:18 am : link
"Can't be fixed"???? What are you talking about?

More Pocket awareness and core strength should resolve the fumbling.

The INT is defense awareness
Only thing he needs to clean up is the fumbles.
Dave in Hoboken : 11/5/2019 12:18 am : link
Even his INTs aren't bad at all. He's been the only good player on the offense this season.
Simms was a big fumbler too
Paulie Walnuts : 11/5/2019 12:18 am : link
it worked out OK
Last week he was our Future
Bleedblue10 : 11/5/2019 12:22 am : link
The rookie has a bad game and now he is garbage. Is this gonna be what his whole career is like? Every single play disected to death? He’s gonna have good games and he’s gonna have bad games. Show me one time that he had anyone as open or even as much time to throw as Dak did tonight! Fumbles gotta get cleaned up but the second one wasn’t even on him he was stripped by a backup DE playing in garbage time against the highest paid LT of all time. Relax everyone
With the huge Caveat
Festina Lente : 11/5/2019 12:24 am : link
that this is far too early of a juncture to juge accurately I will say this:

I have seen some nice things (personality, courage, etc) and some not so nice things (TO's, tardy progressions, etc) but I haven't seen anything that as really got my attention/got me out of my seat. He looks middle of the pack by NFL standards. MY fear is he is just good enough that we don't cut loose early but not bad enough to be dropped. Andy Dalton/Tannehill territory.
The fumbles are an issue
GiantFanInTX : 11/5/2019 12:25 am : link
Yes, but nothing else is really his fault. There is zero separation by our receivers. Zero. Prescott is trash but he looks all world because his line gives him an hour and he can always set his feet. He was throwing to wide open receivers. Jones has no where to go with the ball. The fact that he completes as many throws as he does is a fucking miracle. Every throw has to be put in a tiny window.

Just pure upper body strength period. He fumbles a lot for a guy that keeps two hands on the ball and that first one he had the ball pretty well protected. He's in the NFL now against grown men, he's going to have to get stronger, especially if he wants to be a guy that toes the line holding the ball or running.
I see horrible playcalling
Bleedblue10 : 11/5/2019 12:40 am : link
How many comebacks is the OC gonna call. It’s literally all we run are god damn stick routes. No creativity at all, no separation, what do you expect this kid to do in his seventh start? I think he’s doing a good job. The fumbles are scaring me and I guess I’m hoping he’s gonna clean those up but to act like he’s the problem here is just short sided.
There are problems
allstarjim : 11/5/2019 12:41 am : link
That are recurring.

Ball security, which I don't currently think is his biggest problem. Not much you can do about the 2nd fumble. The first, it looks like he covered the ball up, Cowboys' defender was able to get it out on the hit.

But he has other problems...trying to force it to his first read too often when it's not there. He has to go through his progressions and do it very quickly.

Holding the ball a bit too long.

And not feeling the pressure, particularly from the blindside but in general, he needs to understand that he is going to have to use his legs to buy more time, or he's got to go through the progressions faster. But a couple of times he's not recognizing the corner blitz from the blind side, or really pressure from that side in general, and he's getting sacked.

The game has to speed up for him. I saw some improvement last week but this week he really looked like a rookie. He's got to get better at some point.

So it's your contention that Jones held onto the ball too long on the last play?
Pfft, he’s going to be fine
Bill L : 11/5/2019 12:46 am : link
By year two and with a proper team around him, he’ll be a top half QB and keep moving up from there. He’s the least of our worries.

In response to your question - yes. Eli’s entire career was dissected after every game.
I don't KNOW
giantstock : 11/5/2019 2:06 am : link
But that's okay. I got hope. For the time being I'm fine with it. Ask me once the team overall is ready. But frankly, for any of us that felt strongly the team would suck - this is the reason. lots of ups and downs for a young team. It's rare to be "satisfied" with a loss and not go blasting away at the QB and other high profile players.

Actually Ponder lead the Vikes to a playoff appearance , Jones still has a long way to go before even reaching that weak milestone. Granted he had Peterson running wild but we have Barkley dont we?

Because some fans will always overreact to the last game, play they saw, good bad, or fair. It s why those types of reactions should not be taken as legitimate observations.
Jones is the real deal
bc4life : 11/5/2019 7:19 am : link
Lot of talent, lot of poise, typical rookie dumbass mistakes. Would not fault him for first fumble - went head first rather than slide becauise it was necessary to make first down.

last fumble - knew Giants had to throw the ball, dpespeation play.

Ball security is an issue - he'll fix it

franchise QB.

And he kept repeating that statement all night long.

He's a rookie, and the game is still fast for him.
Section331 : 11/5/2019 9:31 am : link
The fumbles are absolutely a concern, but I disagree that it is unfixable. He's shown me enough that I think he can be a very good QB in the future.

I still like him quite a bit
Jim in Forest Hills : 11/5/2019 9:35 am : link
but he looked a little rattled yesterday (couldn't have helped that Lawrence sacked him immediately).

I just don't want to David Carr him. He seems like a tough kid that will hang in there.
Daniel Jones is the last thing this team needs to worry about
Giants in 07 : 11/5/2019 9:38 am : link
.
Giving up on a QB after 6 or 7 games is utter stupidity.
Brown Recluse : 11/5/2019 9:43 am : link
Yes, the turnovers are a problem. But to say definitively right now what he is or isn't really shows a complete lack of emotional intelligence.

Last year everyone thought Darnold, Trubisky, and Mayfield were the future of the NFL. They may still be and they may not be. But they're in their second season and we still don't know. Jones has played about half a season so far.

Step off the ledge and take a breath. This process is going to take time and Daniel Jones isn't going anywhere for at least 2 more seasons.

That was his second season not his rookie one and he never even played in that playoff loss. The next season (his 3rd) he went 2-6-1 and was benched. In 2014 he was the 3rd string QB.
I guess you must also be .....
5BowlsSoon : 11/5/2019 11:45 am : link
Writing off Barkley as well, right? What has he done since he has returned from injury?

Last night, 28 yards on 14 carries and while he had 67 yards on 6 catches, 65 of those was on one play, so the others were 5 for 2 yards.

So, should we move on from him too?

I’m sure you are fighting off Sheppard too. 4 games inactive....dump him too, right?

Is there anyone on the defense you would keep? It sounds like based on your standard maybe the entire 11 should be cast off.

Oh, and Rojas missed another extra point.....dump him too, right?
no.
