I will never be alive to see the giants be a winning team.

plato : 11/5/2019 11:29 am
that is the realization i had last night. the giants are so bad that to turn the “aircraft carrier” around will take more years than i have left.

i began to be a giant fan as a kid when Arnie Weinmeister was a two way all,pro tackle. When the Poole brothers, Ed and Ray if iI recall were our runing backs. Charlie Conerly was just starting at qb and the T was a new formation. A long time ago.

I have ben through some great highs and suffered through a long drought of horrible football. Not until 1979 when george young took charge and changed the organization from top to bottom, drafted phil simms to great disconcert amongst media and fans, had coaching changes finally having parcells whose first major move was not to start Simms and get off to a 3 -13 season and finally turn it around in 1981.

but that took a very long time. from 1964-1981 is 17 years. i am ill and 80 years old. i just want to see a defense that can tackle and look like an NFL defense. Last night that defense was not NFL quality. I think Jones and SB are NFL players but they need a supporting cast and a creative coaching staff. All of this takes a lot of time.
I am a fan, but not a very hopeful one of this “disaster” that i watched last night.
i am not trying to make fun here

crap with bs. there are just a really limited number of next years for me and i realized that last night. most of you are young and can look to an “unlimited time frame” future. i cannot. And in my time frame, the giants will not be a winning franchise.

I don’t see what’s bizarre or “ groundhog” day about that!
Being that you're almost dead,

it probably helps to put things into perspective. NFL football games don't mean as much as spending time with loved ones.

Last night, I turned the game off at halftime, even though it was a 1-point game. I gave the wife some necessary roughness in the sack instead. I don't regret missing the second half of the game at all.

Used to be that I'd plan my entire week around watching the Giants, but they just aren't worth the trouble anymore.
Plato, you (as well as I) got to witness 4 Giant's SB's victories.
penkap75 : 11/5/2019 11:42 am : link
Not many fans of other NFL franchises can say that.

No matter how shitty the NYG has been the past many years, I will always bleed blue and cherish the SB memories. Named my damn first born son ELI in 2012 after the 2011 SB.
We're a winning team soon.
DroppingDimes : 11/5/2019 11:42 am : link
We finally started our rebuild last year, and things are going as they should.
We'll probably be fighting for a winning record next year, but we should definitely be there in 2021.
It gives you something to look forward to.

People are generally cranky. It's been a crappy time to be a Giant's fan. Don't take it personally. Regarding your sentiments, I'm younger than you, but I'm not hopeful to see any good football for a long time, myself.
my advice..
BillKo : 11/5/2019 12:27 pm : link
..turn in your card and try something else.

NFL football is not for you.
my response from last thread still stands
pjcas18 : 11/5/2019 12:33 pm : link
you should look into having your head frozen and have instructions in your will for a relative to regularly unfreeze your head when the Giants are good and freeze again when they're bad

this way you're never too old to be "around" for the good times and you can die in peace. not today, I don't think, but when you die. unless it's today.

I know nothing I say will make you feel any better about the Giants, and this long stretch of bad football just sucks. But sometimes I feel like Super Bowl 42 was the pinnacle for me. Nothing the Giants can ever do will be better than that game. No fans from other teams have a memory like that one, 18-1. It’s as good as it gets, and we were all lucky to have it. Everything else, no matter how good the team ever gets or ever has been in my lifetime, is gravy.

The Giants gave us the best win EVER. I’m grateful. Despite this current mess. Take care of yourself, Plato. (And maybe rewatch that game.)
I haven't posted in awhile

but I am that 91 year old guy(now 92)I go back to pre world war 2 as a Giant fan. Like Plato I have seen ups and downs.Mostly downs over the past 78 years.Like Plato I most likely wont be around to see a winning team.If this group in not the worse team through all these years its a close second.Everyone from the ownership down to the water boy (now girls) has some blame for what we seen on the field. Its time for a massage change
c'mon now.

Giants went 4-12.

They had a second-year Simms competing at QB, 2 Pro Bowlers - Brad Van Pelt (OLB) and Dave Jennings, a Punter.

They sucked beyond all suckitude. It had been a 8 years since they had a winning season, they were a trainwreck, a dead offense and a defense that would inevitably fold.

One season later, they beat Philly in the wildcard game.

The current team is not in worse shape than 1980.

Are the 2020 Giants getting Lawrence Taylor? No?
It seems somewhat sad that plato considers a Giants winning season

...'When they win a Superbowl, please put the championship pennant on my tombstone'. He was in his 30s then. Now he's got 4. Oh, by the way, it was a LOT worse then. Patience.
