I hate to say it but if the Giants come up on the losing end on Sunday, the fan base will have a meltdown (and have every right to do so). This $hitshow has gone on long enough and if it gets worse, there will be a revolt among the diehards.... worse than it already is.
I'm not sure how positive a win will be but a lose might be the end of our coach.
Technically, we want to lose to continue to improve our draft position. But a loss would have to be the death knell for Shurmur. So this is going to sound odd, but it's more important for Shurmur to win than the Giants...
I agree. Must win in what sense? Usually when we say that, we mean "or our playoff chances are dead." But, that ship has passed, gone over the horizon, and is now colliding with an iceberg.
Must win or the fans will be upset? Honestly, I don't get that. If we win, so, we beat a shitty team. If we lose, we lost to a shitty team, but we did that when we lost to the Cards already. We ARE the shitty team other teams don't want to lose to, now. The Jets are saying the same shit about us, no doubt. And winning gets us nothing but worse draft order, so yet again we're in the "lose to improve" scenario.
So, the only one it can matter to is Shurmur, some of the bubble players and rookies, and the Owners.
1. They could end up with a worse record than the Jets which could mean them getting OT Andrew Thomas in the draft. The Jets are going to grab him if he's on the board and he would be the stud long term LT this team desperately needs.
2. It could anger Mara enough where he decides to fire Shurmur instead of keeping him but forcing him to fire several members of his staff.
And I'm pretty sure all three of the wins were over the Redskins.
Whatever happens will be announced as Shurmur's decision but that's where it will come from.
Eli lost his job because he was supposed to beat the Bills at home and didn't.
Jones is supposed to beat the Jets. The Leonard-Williams-less Jets.
We'll see.

Is a pretty decent haul.
There's also no logic in giving up two draft picks for 8 games of a pending FA in a lost season. But Mara approved DG doing that.
Once you place yourself in that perspective, Eli coming back is plausibly on the table.
And of course Eli wants to play.
NYJ, WAS, and MIA on the schedule - just happens that we get to play three of the very worst teams in the league in our next seven games. We could squeak out wins against them, get blown out against the others and who would argue that the team has improved, or even held the same vs. last year?
Last year we fattened up on backup QBs didn't we?
You could make the argument that both wins this year were mirages - the Bucs missed a chip shot to lose that game and we faced Haskins while he was being frozen out by Gruden.

Slayton assume you mean D. Slayton, not C. Slayton, right?
Carter - maybe pump the brakes a little bit although he has flashed - are we seeing any YOY progress yet?
Ballantine - based on what?
McIntosh - based on what?
Ximines - are you sure yet?
Love - based on what?
Is a pretty decent haul.
You seem to have left out Lauletta and GAA
Yet another Gettleman acolyte grading on the "at least it's not Reese anymore so I'm going to assume the late rounders are good even though I have nothing more to base it on than I did three years ago when Reese was GM" curve. I count two guys - TWO - who can definitively be considered a win above where he was drafted, and one of them is hurt.
Where are the UDFA? Say what you will about Reese, but so far under Gettleman, Reese's UDFA record is definitely better.
This is the most annoying thing about Gettleman and his defenders - I think Reese sucked, and I find myself defending him more and more just to prove the point that Gettleman is at best moderately better than him, and "moderately" is being generous.
All of the players below that line either have shown they don't just yet or haven't been on the field. Hopefully they improve. Slayton, Ximines, and Carter have shown sparks.
If the way this goes is Gettleman nails 1st and 2nd rounders, doesn't get starters later in the draft, and flops with his acquisition of vets, this cycle of awful will never break.

In last night's broadcast, they displayed a graphic that in the last 3 years the Giants have lost 12 out 15 games to NFC East opponents (with the caveat that we still have to play 3 more games against the division).
And I'm pretty sure all three of the wins were over the Redskins.
I'm sure of it without taking a stroll down the hell of memory lane of past seasons. It was just a slap in the face kind of dose of reality of how bad we really are. Beating the skins and taking a victory lap over some hapless backup QBs last year. Yay!
Revisit that when Duke finishes 4-8.

The hell with the OP! This game is more important to the Jets, not Giants. EVERY year it's the same story. Perpetual rebuild. New players, coaches etc., except for the same stupid owner.
Jets haven't won a Super Bowl since man first walked on the moon. So don't tell me your shit about a "must win" game for a team with 4 NFL Championships and 4 freaking Super Bowl trophies including 2 within the past 12 years. Go cry me a river with your now crappy team!
Cool story, Bro!
Danielle?? If you are sick and tired, then fucking leave. Or at least grow the fuck up.
