Attention to detail

Reale01 : 11/5/2019 1:44 pm
The Giants show an alarming lack of attention to detail on defense. As a coach - you get what you tolerate. Its not OK to say we know we are going to make mistakes we need to keep getting better and improve execution. Coaches need to say WE WILL NOT MAKE MISTAKES, THEY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

The edge rushers are constantly allowing QBs to escape because they fail to contain and run themselves out of the play. Golden was particularly bad last night.

Outside Linebackers need to have outside leverage on Witten on those boots so he can't get an easy release and so they can also hold the edge.

Inside linebackers were running themselves out of the play all night. There was very poor gap integrity which led to the easiest 140 Zeke ever gained (Zeke's words).

The DBs are leaving their zones, putting them in bad position and then taking bad recovery angles. Bethea has been particularly bad.

Cornerbacks are being too handsy which is setting them up for PI and holding penalties.

Lack of basic situational awareness. Letting the other team's best players go uncovered. Leaving the underneath coverage on a downfield receiver to cover a receiver in the flat on third and long. Leaving large cushions on third and short.

Lots of watching other people make the tackle. Defensive players should always assume a missed tackle and rally to gang tackle.

Lack of urgency in reacting to loose balls on the ground (this is more on the offense).

Rant over.

Sounds like something...

Correct!

The NYG lack attention to detail from the top down. If you ask me why I'm negative on the team, this is why. This is fundamental football they're not fixing, and it begins at the top with poor, wimpy hires and works down through the overmatched coaches, etc.

I expect a roster built over two years to have holes and major issues, but the coaches have something to work with by just teaching and drilling and eliminating fundamental execution problems.

Captain Hardass would scream like a red faced maniac if you made these mistakes in July.

Bettcher is going to be the fall guy for this season, Shurmur gets another year and DG at least another 2.

Unless the players quit on PS, which I don't think they will that's how I see it playing out.
Agree Shurmer stays

Parcells learned from year one to year two. Shurmer needs to learn. It is not about scheme, or game management, these mistakes are things you don't do in Pee Wee football. The players we have are good enough to be a 500 team, but not the way they are playing. We are not getting beay physically as much as mentally. IMO

Parcells was a rookie head coach. Shurmur's been a head coach for almost 60 games.
It's been a problem for years

Extending back to Coughlin. The NFL changed with the 2011 CBA, and the Giants have not kept up with the changes.
I've said this before

I think the team should be investing heavily in Artificial Reality Simulators.

The CBA limits the amount of time players can be coached. But it says nothing about offering players the ability to practice with simulators and get feedback from the machines. The coaches can work with technologists to have an automated grading system that provides the players with the feedback that matches the coaches want to emphasize.

Better coaches would help a lot too!

Shurmur has been a HC for about 50 games, between Cleveland and NY. Has he learned anything? His players hand not.
