Reminiscing about when the NY Giants where bad asses

EJJ : 11/5/2019 2:35 pm
My youngest son is 5 and loves to play Madden and listen to my Giants glory stories from the 80s to present. We have even created player profiles and named them LT or Mark Bavaro.
The Giants had so many great teams that played hard nosed physical football. Players on D like: LT,Banks Van Pelt,Carson,Kelly,Gyton,Kinard,Strahan,Pierce,Osi,Tuck,Roll.
On O Guys like Simms,Morris,Anderson,Mohwatt, Bavaro, and Meggett. The Suburbanites O line with Brad busted nose Benson,Nelson,Ard.
Eli,Jachobs,Bradshaw,Shockey,Burress,Nicks,Cruzzzz. McKenze,O'Hara,Diehl,
I'm sure I'm leaving a bunch of guys out. These guys didn't always win but they played tough and didn't quit.
Coaches like Parcells, Little Bill on D, and TC had an eye for detail. as a fan you felt OUR COACHES gave us an advantage!
Watching the second year of Shurmur and Bettcher the team looks poorly coached and soft.
Up until last night I thought there was no way this staff would be let go at the end of the season but now?
Other than special teams Mara/Tish should clean house this is a joke and the sad part is we as fans are getting screwed.

That Cowboys playoff game video that was pinned

over the weekend was like a punch to the gut watching Jacobs and Bradshaw sitting there.

What a couple of dogs those guys were. They'd kick your ass for looking at them the wrong way and those were our running backs!

Ugh.
The peak of Giants bad-assery of the Eli era, IMO

was weeks 7-12 of the 2008 season.

The Giants ripped off 6 straight wins, including physical beatings of a tough Steelers team in Pittsburgh, running for over 200 yards against the Ray Lewis Ravens D, beating the Eagles at the Linc, and curb-stomping the Cowboys at home.

Then Plax shot himself...we still beat the Skins in DC 2 days later, but we all know how that season ended.

But for that 6 game stretch (really, the first 12 games, minus laying a Monday night egg in Cleveland) the Giants were tough as nails and laying the wood to everyone on both offense and defense.
Yep. I miss Bradshaw and Jacobs.

Sorry ... but the stink from yesterday is going to be around for awhile.

I honestly hope Mara cans Shurmur during the season and let’s Thomas McGaughey audition for the spot.
End of the 86 season...

...they were as dominant as any team, ever.

They were so good that Carl Banks was playing better than LT, and LT was in his prime. Teams couldn't run, they couldn't pass, and that ball-control offense was an excellent complement.

ESPN did a nice job of showing all the Giants legends

in the building last night - LT, Bavaro, Tuck, Cruz, Plax, to name a few.

How far we've fallen.
A New England reporter tweeted

a couple weeks back that Belichick was using Carl Banks tape from the 80s to teach his defense how to stop a particular run scheme.

We've become one of those teams, huh.

Good post, the 2008 season is hardly remembered except for the plaxico debacle.
