Isaiah Simmons - Safety/Linebacker for Clemson

Ira : 11/5/2019 6:14 pm
He's got safety speed and linebacker size along with very good football instincts. Although he's a little bigger than them, he reminds me of Minkah Fitzpatrick and Derwin Williams in that he helps a team in many ways. He's a good tackler, blitzer and good in coverage.

I linked a video that shows all of his plays in a game from last season against Notre Dame.

Sound like the kind of linebacker we need here;)

Bahahahaha
giants need a legit centerfielder
madgiantscow009 : 11/5/2019 6:24 pm : link
and linebackers. these tweeners are always great athletes, but giants have two already. Is this a 1st round prospect? Where would be fit in?

he's a great player, and if bpa value is there so be it, but he does
MM_in_NYC : 11/5/2019 6:29 pm : link
not address our two biggest weaknesses - OL and pass rush.
I think he would be a great fit. True money backer
Rjanyg : 11/5/2019 6:55 pm : link
He would be a 3 down player. You want somebody to cover a TE? He’s your guy. He can blitz and tackle. Sign me up.

RE-sign Leo Williams
Sign Justin Simmons for FS
Sign a pass rusher like Bud Dupree

No offense to you but I hope we never have to hear that term again after year.

Money backer? I hear ya. He is a very good LB either way.
Love him

If the top outs are gone, he’d be my pick

Is a fucking beast, but will probably screw it up. Connelly and Simmonds in the middle, Two good instinctive ILB'ers sounds great.
He's the real deal
Breeze_94 : 11/5/2019 8:44 pm : link
After watching Jaylon Smith last night, who wouldn't love to have a LB like that.

I'd put him pretty high on my list, right after Chase Young, Andrew Thomas, and Tristan Wirfs. Grant Delpit probably right after Simmons.

I've seen alot of Epenesa talk- he does not fit anywhere on this team. He is not a fit as a 3-4 OLB- no bend or burst. He is either a 4-3 DE or a 3-4 DE (Which we do not need)

You actually like Tristan Wirfs? I’m aware of the measurables but I don’t see it when he plays, I could be missing it. But yeah, totally agree on where you have Simmons, he should absolutely be a target for us once Andrew Thomas is off the board.
Dexter Lawrence,Leonard Williams,and AJ Epenesa

Sounds good to me
I like him. We need to get serious about LB
markky : 11/5/2019 9:18 pm : link
On the other side give me Amari Rogers in a later round if he’s around. He should be getting more attentions.
I don't remember where I heard this, but teams that run a 4-3 are best
Ira : 11/5/2019 9:39 pm : link
served by getting a strong dl and teams that run a 3-4 are best served by getting strong linebackers. Of course you want good players in both units, it's just a question of emphasis. Our two Super Bowl teams in the Parcells era ran a 3-4 and had LT, Carson and Banks. Our two Super Bowl teams in the Coughlin era had Strahan, Osi and Tuck.
he seems more of a big safety than an LB
GiantsFan84 : 11/5/2019 10:09 pm : link
i worry he will be more athlete than football player if he plays ILB because he has more experience playing off the ball than as a traditional MLB. i also worry how think he is in the pro game to take on blocks as an MLB in the 3-4

so projecting him to the giants i see a S

He would have to bulk up to play ILB.

I haven't watched much of Wirfs to really have my own opinion yet. From what I've seen, he looks dominant though. And also saw him mocked ahead of Thomas in a recent mock at 2nd overall so he seems to be gaining steam.

I actually saw a tweet today from someone saying there are scouts who have Austin Jackson from USC over Andrew Thomas.

Love Amari Rogers. He is in the Golden Tate/Shepard mold so a bit redundant with the current options on the roster... but with Tate being 32 and Shepards long-term health in question, I would not mind him later in the draft.

True money backer?

So what do we do with him when Bettcher is canned?
I would make a healthy bet
allstarjim : 11/6/2019 12:04 am : link
That Gettleman will be looking to draft a money backer for Bettcher. Simmons would seemingly be an awesome fit.

However, IMO unless Chase Young is there or another player offers immense value at the first round pick, such as Jerry Jeudy for example, I want a LT. My dream is somehow the Giants land at a spot where a highly coveted QB is and they trade down, still get the OL help, can address LB as well or perhaps draft two OTs. Sadly, the Giants very likely will need to lose out for that to happen. I believe Joe Burrow and Tua will go 1 & 2. Herbert might be the next QB taken. Who knows at this point but this team still needs 4 really good picks out of the next draft, I think. Two tackles, an Edge, a WR, and a money backer. I'd address safety and at least one of those other positions in free agency. This seems like a tall order but I think it will be doable if the Giants can allocate their resources successfully.

Yes he does. He's a pretty good pass rusher. He has 6 sacks this year. More sacks than anybody we will be able to get at our pick outside of Chase Young.

Here are a few ERs who are right now considered 1st rounders or have been mocked in the 1st.

AJ Epenesa - 3.5 sacks
Gross-Matos - 5 sacks
Jabari Zuniga - 3 sacks
K'Lavon Chaisson - 2 sacks

You also can't draft for need like that. Yeah an OT and ER might be more important, but if Young & Thomas are gone there probably isn't one worth the pick we have.
It's Connelly!
HoustonGiant : 11/6/2019 9:58 am : link
He and Simmons in the middle and this defense is in position and 100% better.

I'd like OL the rest of the draft.
the idea we need a money backer is hilarious
Platos : 11/6/2019 11:05 am : link
bettcher can't get his own moneybacker types to play well why should we invest in one?

i like it better when those guys were called what they were, tweeners.

is that what "edge" is now as well? Edge, could be DE, could be OLB...

reggie torbor was technically an "edge" for us? lol

is tweener derogatory or something?

His new money backer has played 2 games for us, 0 starts yet, and 39 total snaps.

His other "money" backer is a cast-off named Mayo who is playing because Connelly is out for the year.
