How do we never roll out DJ

GIANTS128 : 11/5/2019 7:03 pm
I mean we all know the OL is not great. How can we not scheme to move him around??...at least a few times. Where QBs are making plays today is mainly outside the pocket. If you roll him out even terrible WRs can get free....we see it every sunday(only if you are watching another team). It just very frustrating...ROLL THE MAN OUT...is it that difficulty....

He would do it with Eli early and often.
Have been saying this over and over and over during the games.
Blue21 : 11/5/2019 7:05 pm : link
With the past rush he's got coming after him why do they not do this more. Throwing on the run is suppose to be one of his strengths. It would also slow the rush and keep defenses from pinning there ears back and going after him.

Robbie...exactly my point...We did it with an immobile QB...but dont do it at all with somebody is no is mobile? Head scratching for sure...
He is rolling out
aGiantGuy : 11/5/2019 7:08 pm : link
They just choose not to block the defensive end and they blow it up every time because nobody falls for our play action. Do we have to wait for the bye week to run more plays under center...again?

Im a big fan of having the QB under center...especially if you commit tomthe run game...this coach is clueless...
LMAO!
Bavaro_the_Mafioso : 11/5/2019 7:10 pm : link
Same thoughts. The coach is complete trash.
I would also coach DJ8 to play more like Josh Allen and run more
Coach Red Beaulieu : 11/5/2019 7:13 pm : link
1 2 3 secs, bam, take your eyes off downfield and either move your launch point or run for it.

You can't let him go through 5 progressions behind this disasterous Shurmru/Hunter coached OLine and gameplan.
He’s 17-41 as a head coach

Enough said. Terrible hire.
Bootlegs and play actions

are great when the running game is doing good.
Bad

coaching its almost like they are not even game planning.

Should be very effective with Barkley. I have noticed that defenses seem to know which play is a hand off. The linebackers are literally on their toes coming downhill before the snap. They see something that triggers if it is a run or pa pass. Now the zone read seems to work better as the whole defense flows with Barkley as it should, daring the giants to consistently put the ball in Qb's hands on design run plays.
To a certain extent
Vanzetti : 11/5/2019 7:44 pm : link
He is Danny “It’s not my fault” Jones— both at Duke and in the NFL.

And even though that is an excuse, it’s also true to a large extent.

However, he does have to stop turning it over or it will be his fault
They certainly don’t
Phil in LA : 11/5/2019 7:45 pm : link
Move him around enough - if they are interested at all in winning. Right now, it looks like they are trying to punish him.
Because Shurmur is clueless.

Next ?
Puzzled by the question.
81_Great_Dane : 11/5/2019 8:46 pm : link
As someone observed above, he's rolling out A LOT -- but those plays are getting blown up by the defense, and he's mostly not getting completions out of them, and when he does, they tend to be short check-downs.

One of the next steps he and the offense have to take is to turn those rollouts into downfield passes.
Cause they're too busy running
Karl Hungus : 11/5/2019 8:48 pm : link
f**king RPOs.
Are you guys watching the same game?
V.I.G. : 11/5/2019 8:59 pm : link
What % rollouts do you expect?

He did it a few times yesterday only to have the reads covered and he had to run. Remember those???

The rollouts work with play action under center. We couldn’t run the fukn ball!

They’re doing more run/pass out of shotgun so DJ can see the field easier.

Seriously, next you’ll say that was shurmur’s black house cat.

play action and naked bootle=I agree
There other ways to get your QB outside the tackles

Roll it

Tommy Waddle runs the waggle at eric weddle.
What about screen passes?
mrvax : 11/5/2019 10:02 pm : link
I thought that when a defense has a pass rush that is pinning the QB's ears, you should counter with screens.

Last night when the announcers had a few seconds to come up for air, they were harping on getting Barkley in space. Shurmur actually did get the ball to Barkley in space and he had a nice gain. Then Shurmur stopped calling it.

Sean Lee
penkap75 : 11/6/2019 12:01 am : link
Totally blew up the next screen pass for a big loss. I hope Connolly will be our Sean Lee one day.
gotta say
OBJRoyal : 11/6/2019 5:50 am : link
get out of the single back shotgun look. its horrible. unless your going to run more RPOs than they have been, get under center
The offensive playcalling is just not good
kelsto811 : 11/6/2019 6:09 am : link
I've never been one to harp on that, but the game against the Cowboys really proved that to me. More RPO and rollouts are necessary but at one point the Giants ran a naked bootleg and they hadn't run the ball in like 2 posessions. How does that work?
i have the answer to this, and a lot of questions
cjac : 11/6/2019 7:16 am : link
BECAUSE SHURMUR IS A HORRIBLE COACH

get rid of him and a lot of your problems are solved
I’ve wondered that too
5BowlsSoon : 11/6/2019 7:27 am : link
It seems our play calling is unimaginative compared to other teams.
Ding Ding Ding
ZogZerg : 11/6/2019 7:30 am : link
It makes absolutely NO SENSE!
Shurmur needs to go.
I honestly don’t know...
Chris in Philly : 11/6/2019 7:52 am : link
how we can all watch the same game and see wildly different things.
For my eyes, it's not so much how OFTEN we roll him out
BlueLou'sBack : 11/6/2019 9:22 am : link
It's WHEN. He isn't using his athleticism at the goal line often enough. There are some really dumb ideas executed at the goal line - like splitting Barkley wide and running an empty backfield.

Shurmur gets a "D" from me in tactical thinking on offense.

Yes! There's no coordination to the strategy or tactics employed.
I think Shurmur
Canton : 11/6/2019 9:35 am : link
has Jones staying in the pocket, and not running, unless it's a designed play.

My guess,he wants Jones to not develop bad habits, by bailing on every pass play, and running for first daylight.

So let him learn the fundamentals of being a pure pocket passer, but once the game slows down for him, and he sees the field better, only then let him have a free pass to run, when needed.
I’ll answer this a bit
Daniel in MI : 11/6/2019 9:36 am : link
You roll out you generally compress the field to the half of the roll out. Our guys have trouble getting open on the full field. Limiting it to half is ok at times but not a steady diet.

That said: If we’re gonna lose anyway, how about some fun? Roll out, throw back, flea flick again. Try SB I’m pistol, jet sweep motion to draw the D’s eyes, do something to try to create more space out there!
Good responses from Canton
BlueLou'sBack : 11/6/2019 9:39 am : link
and Daniel in MI.

Intelligent discussion becomes difficult in the midst of losing.

Thanks guys.
