if this offseason, after the redskins clear house, we do not throw whatever money we need to at Callahan to come shape this offensive line up we'll know Shurmur is dead after 2020.
the guy has a proven track record and hal hunter is a proven loser.
Callahan is an outstanding OL coach, and I would be stunned if he is retained next year, even as an OC. I would hire him as OL coach in a heartbeat, but will he be looking for an OC gig? I wouldn't want to give him that.
Eric Mangini s name never comes up. He was actually pretty successful with the Jets. He was young and his personality proved to be a problem in New York
i think his niche is OL and he's good at it. we need guys like that. guys who are great at their positional coaching or just coordinators who never want to be head coaches.
some teams have come up with the assistant head coach/running game coordinator title for o-line coaches. That would give Callahan the opportunity to work with Barkley and have direct input into the running game and oline blocking while leaving the passing game to another coach.
Hunter should be the first staff replacement. I can understand why they picked him off the scrap heap at the time but I was surprised they brought him back for a second year.

I'd have rather gone with a no name random college coach than someone you know does not have a good track record.
it makes you think about what Donte Whitner said in that interview about how coaches get jobs because they're friends with other coaches. its the good old boys system.
Not just no, but hell no. His idea of offense is stuck in the 80's. He makes Woody Hayes' 3 yds and a cloud of dust offense look like Air Coryell. But he can coach OL.

But he s older and more mature now.
marinelli, lebeau, johnson, those kind of guys.

Best of both worlds.

Just wonder why he never got another shot. Was he any worse than some of the guys coaching
Commitment to assemble the best staff

He did get another shot as HC in Cleveland. After he was fired in Cleveland he was the DC for one year in SF but was fired from that job as well.
