Lets say we end the season at 5-11, and end up drafting in the 5-9 range. And lets assume there is a QB on the board such as Herbert, what are we asking for in a trade down?
On the other teams positioning. 10 or later, I'm asking for their first round pick next year, a second round pick this/next year, and a fourth round pick. But if someone like Thomas/Simmons is available, just take them

If they aren't available, the case could be made that this team is so bereft of talent that we need another 10 picks like this year to even begin to compete.
Destroyed by the Jets that will end the 5 win talk and the more sensible 3 or 4 wins will take over, we should be picking in the 3-5 range, that is where we will fall. That will leave us with a top notch QB to think about taking or trading, anyone with a half brain should see that Daniel Jones is no lock for NFL success.
Also depends if a LT we really like is available. Â
Colts got THREE 2nd round picks off the Jets to move from #3 to #6. That move alone (and the fact they were able to make the move and still maintain a very high pick and get the best OL in the draft) is a big reason they turned their team around so quickly-- of course, having an ace GM and scouting staff doing your team's drafting doesn't hurt either.
The Bucs got TWO 2nd round picks off the Bills to move from #7 to #12.
The higher you are, the more you can get for each pick moved up, and it almost seems to be less of a linear value difference more like exponential the higher you get. But yeah, I would say considering 2020 is considered a strong QB class, with a top 10 pick, we would be best served trying to trade down and get a haul of some sort. When a team targets a franchise QB they are always willing to pay more than the trade value charts indicate so it ends up being best value to trade down in those situations.
There are so many ways to beat this team. Even healthy, they stink, and they haven’t started to quit yet. Most terrible teams eventually do.
Anyway, assuming there isn’t a transformational talent available at a position of need, I would look for a package that would be likely to yield at least three quality starters by 2021.
You stay at whatever the draft spot is and take the BPA who will likely start. If the draft is so full of great QBs, then some very good players will drop to the Giants, so why give up that position? Only way you move is for a ridiculous offer and no player at that slot is worth that draft position(bad value).
The Giants would need to be blown away with an offer to move down. Young is the best player in the draft so there is almost no chance the Giants get him unless they finish with a top 3 pick.
If both are gone I would be willing to trade down and target either a OT, WR, or ER.
concern that even if a trade down is available Gettleman may very well pass on the opportunity in favor of getting something in this draft if he is on the hot seat. That’s the worst part of our situation, Shurmur and Gettleman will probably be concerned for their jobs assuming they don’t get fired and that could potentially lead to win games now moves vs long term investments. For example, I didn’t mind the Leonard Williams trade myself but I could completely understand people’s problems with it. There is no way to look at that trade and the lack of us trading away players and not have some concern that Gettleman potentially made the move shortsightedly. I don’t necessarily think that’s what happened but i can’t help but worry it was. The same goes for FA as well
I think there is a good chance our 1st or 2nd round pick will be a WR. My wishlist top 3 in order is ER Chase Young, OT Andrew Thomas, and WR Jerry Jeudy. If their not on the board I would look to trade down and target Henry Ruggs III unless an OL is the BPA.
Turned the 2nd overall pick into Quenton Nelson (best G in the NFL) and Braden Smith (probably a top 5 RT). Plus Kemoko Turay and Rock Ya-Sin both have promise.

I wanted Braden Smith badly in round 2. I remember Sy was very high on him as well. Sy was confident that Smith could also play LT which would come in handy right now for the Giants.
is worth more than having multiple picks. We need a guy whose a fucking superstar. not drafting multiple "JAG" players.
If the big name guys are off the board (Andrew Thomas, Chase Young, Jerry Jeudy) the Giants would be smart to trade down assuming they receive a big offer. They could still come away with a great talent like Isaiah Simmons, Henry Ruggs III, Grant Delpit, etc plus 1-2 day two picks to help address other holes.
My preference is to land one of the big 3 but I won't complain if they trade down and come away with a stud ILB like Simmons or a fast WR like Ruggs III.

Use them all on D plus maybe the heavy TE. FS, FS, ILB, ILB, OLB, NT repeat.
Free agent up a center and a right tackle.
Change up the O system to be more OL usable and helpful.

other coaches are beginning to figure us out.
