This artcile says Giants are concerned about SS

being able to or even wanting to resume his NFL career. He is seeing a specialist in Pittsburgh and the Giants are looking at IR'ing him for the season.
SS concussion concerns - ( New Window )
I am not surprised to hear this is being talked about...
DonQuixote : 11/6/2019 7:24 pm : link
I just wish the best possible recovery for him.
As I noted in another conversation...

If Shep retires WR moves way up the hierarchy of off season needs.
Kid should hang ‘em up

Still young, got $31mm guaranteed in this deal, long life ahead. Not worth the risk.
He probably should

retire though wouldn't be surprised if he tried again. His comments a week or two ago sounds like someone who doesn't want to give up playing if he doesn't have to. That should, another promising WR lost to due to injury/circumstances. Not the best time to go into the offseason needing to fill yet another role on offense when there's so much else that needs to be replaced.
Retire

Health is more important than glory .

He made enough money to last a lifetime
Time to move on

Was it two, or has he not recovered from the one?

Add Plax to that list. (Self inflicted)

We’re cursed at WR I swear.
I hope he retires...

Predicted this awhile ago. I wish him the best. Nothing more important than your health
At least rest this year
Coach Red Beaulieu : 11/6/2019 8:43 pm : link
no need to play for this garbage team, might be counterproductive to the long term interest of the team.
I have a great appeciation

for slot receivers that spend their livelihood catching passes in the middle of the field amongst big linebackers and safeties looking to maim, behead, and destroy. Love SS as I did Cruz but these guys have a short shelf life because they are targets. Patriots have had Welker, Amendola, and Edelman and I tip my hat for their success but worry about these guys in later life. Anyone calling these guys soft or "injury prone" do not understand the requirements of their sacrifice. I want Sterling to come back and be a star for another 8 to 10 years because it is important to him but he may be better off walking away for his future. Sad part of the game but Sterling deserves our concern. He is a tough football player.
Here's hoping Shepherd...

is surrounded by good family and friends who guide him to the right decision - get the hell out of this game, get healthy, and enjoy the rest of his life...

Not to be crass given the circumstances, but I believe if he retires, he doesn't get the full guaranteed $$.
That said, if the doctors and hus family want him to retire, he should. No reason to jeopardize his long term well being for a few more dollars.
He had two concussions in one year, so it pays to be cautious...
Milton : 11/7/2019 4:09 am : link
But I don't think it makes it necessary to retire. It just takes several months or more before they feel he isn't at increased risk of another concussion. It's an inexact science so I fully understand if Shepard opts to retire, but I think shutting him down for the year is prudent enough.
Not really sure how
section125 : 11/7/2019 6:34 am : link
the guarantee works, but if he retires I believe he loses the guarantee except the signing bonus. He he is injured/cut and cannot play he gets the guaranteed money.

The key is if HE retires.

Think he should just sit this one out and see how the injury heals in the offseason.
He should retire
Steve in ATL : 11/7/2019 9:00 am : link
The risk isn't worth playing.
I have no opinion on what SS should do.
Hades07 : 11/7/2019 9:38 am : link
It is none of my business and his decision. These players know the risks they take playing this game. Whichever he chooses, he won't get criticism from me.

I believe you're correct and it's going to put him in a very difficult position. He's got to play 2 more years to get all his money. Hopefully for his sake he doesn't play again this year and then he can decide.
