NFL Network analyst and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders has emerged as a candidate for the Florida St. head coaching job, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo. A fascinating situation that could unfold.

Yes Prime has been coaching the last few years on the High school level
Mmmmm,
section125 : 11/8/2019 9:37 am : link
yeah, I don't think so.

Somebody mentioned Bobby Stoops the other day, which would make a lot more sense.

They will attract someone with proper credentials.
I heard that they
Scott in Montreal : 11/8/2019 9:40 am : link
had discussions with Mike Leach.

That would be their best option IMO. Leach loves turning programs around. He would have them challenging Clemson within three seasons.
Leach can be an abrasive jerk

But that man knows how to coach football
I can see him having a recruiting edge
figgy2989 : 11/8/2019 9:48 am : link
Because, well, he is Prime Time...has he ever coached at any level?

Thanks Big Fred, just looked it up. He appears to be an OC for a HS where both of his sons play. That would be quite the leap to become a HC in the ACC, no?
Don't get me wrong
figgy2989 : 11/8/2019 9:58 am : link
If he goes the Herm Edwards route and brings in assistant coaches who know what they are doing, this could possibly work. He would need to surround himself with a staff who has experience.
I think
BIG FRED 1973 : 11/8/2019 10:06 am : link
If he hires the right staff it definitely can work ,I would think Edger Bennett would be his OC with all the experience he has coaching ,Iam actually surprised he is not a candidate for Head coach
Crap program.

This was my thinking as well. He'd probably be in way over his head as a HC, but I would think he could be an awesome recruiter for FSU.
LOL

That would be epic

Prime Time

Years ago he wanted to be the HC of the Falcons. When he was asked about becoming an assistant coach in order to work his way up Deion said no because it required too many hours.
He had a rep as an inattentive and apathetic teammate...
Dunedin81 : 11/8/2019 12:46 pm : link
incredible physical talent and I'm sure he worked hard to maintain it, but his shitty attitude is credited by plenty of folks with bringing about the decline of the Cowboys. Interesting choice to mentor kids.
He will be hired right after MIami hires Ray Lewis as HC and Michael
Ivan15 : 11/8/2019 1:13 pm : link
Irvin as OC.
Question
DanMetroMan : 11/8/2019 1:27 pm : link
people on twitter are saying Deion doesn't have a degree and an NCAA FB coach needs to have one. Is that accurate? I can't find anything either way.

It does appear a Bachelors Degree is the minimum requirement. That’s interesting. I had no idea

into a square hole.

My first concern re: this fit would be Is Deion willing to work those 14-16 hour days required of coaches? Huge lifestyle change for him

Being a HC at the college level requires less of a commitment in terms of hours. Spurrier sure as hell wasn't putting in 14-16 hour days. That's one of the reasons why he left the NFL to go back to the college ranks.
at a minimum
bc4life : 11/9/2019 9:54 am : link
it has to be more regimented than what he is doing now.

Could be wrong, doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would want or need to do that
In the words of Mickey Andrews, the longtime DC
BigBlueBuff : 11/9/2019 1:52 pm : link
under Bowden: "Did Deion say this, or was it Prime Time that said it?"

FSU isn't hiring Deion Sanders as their head football coach nor would they consider it. They currently have a search firm and the rumors are that the leading candidates are Mark Stoops, P.J. Fleck, Matt Campbell, Mike Norvell, and Brett Venables. There is also a rumor that Bob Stoops is possible, but I don't believe those.
