he never got the recognition he deserved. How someone so inept could get a starting NFL linebacker job is so remarkable it defies explanation and REQUIRES recognition.

A LB that can't tackle is like a chef that can't cook.
The last BBI Giant Of The Year Award was given in 2014 Â
Safety Antrel Rolle received it for his play in the 2013 season.
In 2014 and 2015 the Giants went 6-10 and nobody was particularly interested in giving out individual awards.
If the Giants somehow figure out how to not suck some time in the future, then perhaps Eric will consider reviving it. Giant Of The Year Award - ( New Window )

I thought Eric said the reason he discontinued it was because of the expense involved
for providing a brief glimmer of hope at the LB position for the NY Giants.
And Michael Thomas....no specific reason, just out of all the mess on this team I kinda like him as a player. Not a Pro Bowler on defense by any means, but I think we will always get 100% of what he has to give. And pretty damn good on special teams.
People objected to raising money for the award, which was big and expensive, saying the money should go to charity. So Eric took on that burden and it was a significant expense for him.
There were logistical issues with presenting the award after the team abandoned Albany as a summer training location.
And the fact is the team has sucked mightily for many years now. It's hard to gin up enthusiasm for an individual award when the team goes 6-10.
It's too bad really because the award was a great promo for BBI. It got us in the papers and other mainstream media. It help promote the site among the players. I think it really put us on another level.
NFL players are all world class athletes, but they rarely get any kind of individual award, so the BBI GOTY Award was something special and unique.
As I noted before, there were a logistical issues with presenting it. Bradshaw was off the team and with the Colts in 2013 when he got his award for 2012. Luckily, there was a pre-season game against Indy We were able to present it to him there. Seubert was out of football in 2011, but he made a special trip to receive it.
How did the players react to the award? I mean, of course they'd be respectful and happy looking but did they know the significance of it?
Do any Giants players admit they browse this site on a somewhat regular basis? Was BBI unknown to them?
I've always been curious about that.
I can't speak for all of them, especially since I haven't been at most of the trophy presentations, but I had a great conversation with Rich Seubert. He was VERY moved and said it had been hoping for years to win the award. He said his dad read the site on a regular basis.
I was also personally surprised that Ahmad Bradshaw gave me a big hug. He was a bit emotional too.

I have always felt it had to be meaningful to these guys. Football being such a team sport I'm guessing many players never have won too many individual awards, if any. Add to that they are receiving one that is voted by core fans has to be especially meaningful to any player.
That's why I never agreed with the donating in their name. Through the league they are involved in so many charitable events, it would like feel like just another one. The trophy made it special, personal, and unique.
for Eli’s award was especially good. I remember how freakin hot it was that day, but Eli was gratuitous took the time for pics. A good day (dinner at the Barcelona that night was pretty good too if I remember correctly)
(Jokes are way better when they have to be explained)

On a similar vein, will any giant make the pro bowl? Do all teams need at least one player? Maybe someone like Thomas makes it for specials.

if you award it to someone who hasn't made exception contributions the curse may just reverse itself for that person

Eli won the trophy. He was really great at the presentation. We had TV coverage for that one.

I wouldn't be opposed to throwing in some money to get one for him this year. Like a legacy type thing and a Thanks for all the joy he brought us.

Eli was also shocked when Bb56 gave him a ticket stub from his fathers first game
