Some rumors:
Reds have interest in Sir Didi. Since he don’t be back with the Tanks good place for him. Out of the AL. They gave other hitters in Suarez, Votto, Senzel. Plus a good rotation.
Phillies and Rangers interested in Josh Donaldson. Braces want to resign him. He was great for them.
Any others?
Does he bring anything to the table?
If he comes back and has a typical Cespedes year....it would be like signing a big FA.
He doesn't seem to be mentioned anymore.
Personally I am not a fan of this move at all unless it’s for 1-2 years.

They said they don't even know if he will be healthy - since it wasn't their usual rose colored propaganda I wouldn't be shocked if that's a signal they will try to get out of the contract somehow (or just plan on playing the insurance money game again).
The guy has barely played baseball since 2016, his athleticism was rapidly deteriorating even when he was on the field, and now he's had multiple major surgeries back to back. If he's ever a meaningful contributor again anywhere it will be a surprise IMO.
The only way we are getting rid of Cano's deal is by taking on a similar or worse deal, of which very few exist. In other words, he's here to stay. Just need to hope he tests positive for a PED.
Lol!!
Yeah, that's not gonna happen...
Why would you move Lugo to the rotation? He has been
Mediocre as a starter and fantastic as a reliever. Plus, you would be weakening the already weak pen.

love to see Mets take a run at Drew Pomeranz to replace and allow Lugo to move to the rotation.

Because the Mets still need 5 starters and have little SP depth in the organization. They might not be able to afford Wheeler because they traded their best prospects to pay Cano $20M in 2020 and add Edwin Diaz.

He hasn't started since early 2018 and had a 2.66 ERA for that time frame, he's also evolved as a pitcher since then.
An I'm pretty sure its his desire to get a shot so he might be the best option.
An did you not read the part about signing Pomeranz to replace?
If they want Wheeler they can back load the contract

Need to resign Conforto/Thor and extend Rosario.
completely disagree. They are going to make him a huge offer.

what CC said, the Yankees likely aren't giving Cole big money.

I would love nothing more than for you to be right.
Been reading good things about Clarke Schmidt too.
Cole
Tanaka
Severino
Paxton
Schmidt/Montgomery
Looks good.
And German will be in the rotation or part of a trade for a major piece. The kid is a talent.

Schmidt had a great second half last year. He was the guy Cash didn’t want to give up for Robbie Ray. I’m expecting big things from him
In 1930, Lou Gehrig hit .379 and had 174 RBI's. His OBP was ,493 and his OPS was 1.194. Of course, he never missed a game.
He was paid $25,000 ( $260,000 in todays dollars)
He asked for a $5000 raise. He was denied. He was given the possibility of a $1000 bonus if at the end of 1931 he had an "MVP" type season.
He hit 46 Home Runs and drove in 185 RBIS had an OBP of .446 a BA of .341 and an OPS of 1.108. Of course, never missed a game.
Lefty Grove picked that year to go 31-4 so Gehrig was second in the MVP voting. The Yankees did not give him the $1000 bonus.
His lifetime BS was .340. His lifetime OBP was .447 and his lifetime OPS was 1.080.
He played in 2164 straight games from 1925 to 1939.
He made $39,000 in 1938.
Gehrig's quote: "Lets face it, I follow Babe to the plate. I could stand on my head and no one would notice"
As usual, he was ranked first in most fielding stats for a 1st baseman most years of his career.
I don't care what era, that's an actual great baseball player.
Contract was year to year. Some years it went down when attendance went down no matter how well he played.

They may, but they will allow another team to out bid them and therefore not sign him, unless they ditch at least $20 mill in current contracts, imho.
Quote:
with Gil Medina Schmidt Nelson and Garcia. If I had a choice to sign and pay Cole 35 million a year or have these 5 young arms, I take the latter. I know we can have both but history has shown that these big contracts rarely work out and they hamstring you .
"History" has shown no such thing. The Yanks don't get to the WS in 2009 without that A-Rod guy. The D'Backs don't beat the Yankees without Randy Johnson. The Sawx don't win last season without Martinez and Sale. Nothing more than toleration of the Yankees turning themselves into a small market team. How are they doing getting to the WS lately?
You were doing well until you said they were small market minded, except yeah the $218 mill in contracts which will be pushing $228 before $30 mll additional for Cole. Hal will not allow that.

This is made up. BVW simply said he just didn't know where Cespedes was in his rehab or much about when he would be ready to play. He never said he didn't know if he would play in 2020. Roc Nation, on the other hand, was quoted recently as saying Cespedes is planning on a big comeback in 2020. The guy broke his ankle in May 2019. He will almost 100% be healthy enough at some point in 2020 to give it a go, if not spring training.
