How much more can you watch this year?

Ozarkman : 11/9/2019 12:21 pm
Been a fan since the late 60's. I watched every minute of every game in the 70's....brutal! These past several years have been as bad or worse to watch. I semi checked out after the Lions game. Oct and we're done....again. I'll watch if I have nothing better to do and will turn it off if its another bad game. No longer giving the kind of commitment I used to. This team has earned the worst label I think a team can have....irrelevant. Anyone else feel this way? Or maybe I'm just a grumpy old man.

I’ll watch them even if they went 0-16
UConn4523 : 11/9/2019 12:24 pm : link
but I also don’t care what happens all that much, good or bad so it really isn’t a big deal.

Danny Kanell : 11/9/2019 12:26 pm : link
I’ll be watching until the bitter end as usual but I think this team and organization has finally broken me. It’s complete apathy seconds after every loss. They’re an irrelevant franchise.
I am a fan
gary_from_chester : 11/9/2019 12:31 pm : link
Since the 60’s so I will find a reason to watch and to root. Right now it’s the development of the young players, especially Daniel Jones. It is frustrating to watch most of the time but I feel there is hope for the future if we continue to draft well and get some quality FA. I’ll keep watching unless the team quits on Shurmur.
Im Numb

I'll watch every game, beverage in hand. I don't get worked up anymore. It's not even worth it given the state of this franchise. I'm just apathetic. They win? Great. They loss? Oh well.
Real time, only if there are other games worth watching on
jcn56 : 11/9/2019 12:34 pm : link
Otherwise, I fit the Giants around my schedule and usually DVR'd so that I make sure everything else is taken care of first.

Even when they were finishing 7-9 and 8-8, I'd rarely ever miss a game live. Now, I'm usually busy enough where I can't justify sitting around and watching them be awful live.

Thank god for NFL Redzone, when I can sit and watch some football I'm not stuck watching the Giants when they're really bad.
Thank God

Better then 70s....at least young
George from PA : 11/9/2019 12:45 pm : link
I try to watch specifics

DL play....should start being a strength.

DB should start playing better. Ballentine is much better then Haley.
We need a replacment for Bethea.

I hope Pulley makea better defensive calls....Halapio and Jones were doing a poor job
Been a fan since the late 50's..
Goin Deep : 11/9/2019 12:45 pm : link
Still watch the games (mostly for Jones & Barkley).
btw.. the 70's were worse by a lot.
Been a fan since 56
joeinpa : 11/9/2019 12:46 pm : link
Love watching the Giants, look forward to every game.

This year unlike many others, I see growth and improvement.

They ll be good again, they ve had droughts before. To each their own, but glad they the losing hasn’t impacted me, the way it has others.

Watched them though thick and thin through the years. I will listen to Papa and Banks while busying myself around home. Used to be I would do anything to watch every game. I don't love the NFL game of today nearly as much as I did before. Some of that is the current rules and some of it may be getting older and having other interests. Giants being awful kills my only reason to watch the NFL.

Maybe you’re grumpy but..
morrison40 : 11/9/2019 12:51 pm : link
It will pass. I’ve followed them since 1959 , 9 yrs old watching Sam Huff tackle Jimmy Brown at Yankee Stadium. I saw the YA Tittle glory yrs and survived the 15 yrs of lousy football. Keep the faith, this will pass. Gettleman and Mara, are about our age, this BS on the field won’t be tolerated for very long.
The passion is still there
NewBlue : 11/9/2019 12:51 pm : link
I am 63 and went to games with Dad at Yankee Stadium...Joe Morrison was my favorite. There is still a religious type component to this, I will always be primed for Giants games.

It is depressing to be so wretched year in year out, but perhaps this is what will makes the good times (I pray there will be good times again) so rewarding

OMG

I just can't take my eyes off the carnage. Unlike the late '60's and most of the '70's, the current Giants' players aren't uniformly poor with an occasional bright spot of overachieving mediocrity, there are some really good players and others who are OK, to go along with the obvious holes in the roster.

It's like a meal prepared from decent ingredients, but in an inappropriate recipe, then poorly cooked.

Making the 3 hour trek to the Jets game tomorrow
Rjanyg : 11/9/2019 1:07 pm : link
Me, my son and wife have tickets for 2nd level endzone. Never been to Giants-Jets game before.

I pray they win but I am not confident.

This is a very young team and we all have to keep in mind that there only 7 players here from 2 years ago. That is insane roster turnover. The team will get better. Buffalo did the same thing 3 years ago.
'How much more can you watch this year?'...

I'm not great at math but I think there's seven games left. So that much more is my answer.

Giants are like a burnt quiche.
If I’ve got something better to do, I do it now.

Used to be nothing short of a natural disaster could keep me from watching a game. Not so much anymore. If I choose to do something else with my wife, I record the game, and only watch if we won. I still look forward to watching games, but it isn’t life or death to miss one for something else.
Will watch every game for whatever positive progress to be gleaned

Can’t watch and be concerned about wins and losses. Past that now.
OP had expectations too high
giantstock : 11/9/2019 2:07 pm : link
You had ot either ignore or believe way too much to believe they wouldn't be bad. It's not just one thing but it was the accumulation from below:

1--- You had to believe in the coaching staff.

2-- You had to believe that 4 of teh 5 wins vs backup Qb's from last year was irrelevant.

3--- You had to believe that their end of season performance meant a damn thing.

4--- You had to believe that by replacing an awful wheeler with a bad Remmers and replacing a bad Pulley with a bad Halapio meant a damn thing. The RT and the center are 2nd and 3 most important OL positions.

5--- You had to believe in preaseason hype. For some reason there's a big deal thought of preaseason.

6--- you had to believe that the youngest team in football wouldn't have significant growing pains.

In summary you have a poorly coached team- and was extremely awful last year that didn't do a lot in FA and are the youngest team in the NFL - ofc you are going to suck. You hang in one game vs the Pats then bow a game vs Zona. That's what lousy coached youngest teams dooooo.

Way worse - before free agency, it took forever to turn things around. Good teams stayed good for years. Now adays, 2 good draft/FA years and your back.
Agree with OP

I have the same background from the late 60s and the terrible 70s. Dropping the ticket next year. Certain things you do not want to repeat.

looking for them to improve, but, they need an influx of talent especially at LB and OL

I have tix. Not attending the Eagles game, too many knuckleheads from Philly drive up.

I will likely be attending the Packer and Dolphin games.

I will watch the away games on TV. If I have time, I will watch live. If not, I definitely view via DVR. At this point, not budgeting time if there’s something else to do during game time (which is mostly anything else lol).
Still watch....
John In CO : 11/9/2019 2:48 pm : link
Been a fan since 1976; first game I attended was the first win in Giants stadium. So they stunk when I started watching and they stink now. But there has been a lot of successes in between. There's always hope. But I will admit as I get a little older that the losses dont affect me like they did back when I was in my teens and 20's. A Giants loss used to stick with me for the entire week; now, not so much. But that is pretty much all sports to me. If im not playing then I have no control over the situation, so its not even worth getting upset about if there is nothing I can do about it. If they win, fantastic, if they lose...try again next week. And hope that management somehow makes the right moves to improve for the future.
Acting as a spoiler against Eagles would be awesome

I torture myself every week in hopes of seeing anything. Watching the Giants now is essentially like looking for Bigfoot.
There are two questions for me:
81_Great_Dane : 11/9/2019 3:21 pm : link
How much more of the Giants can I watch?: Probably a lot. Though I'm disappointed that they're not making more progress, and I'm losing patience, and I'm disgusted watching the same defensive problems year after goddam year... The games are watchable. I have some hope.

How much more of the anger, name-calling and negativity on BBI can I take? Less and less. That's not a swipe at Ozarkman or anyone in particular. But on discussion threads, there are so many people who want the team to tank, so many people insulting each other, so many people who seem to think that this organization is worse than the Browns and the Washington team. Why do I want to read that?

For me, football isn't supposed to be a source of anger and bitterness. Life is short. There are enough awful things in the world. I'm not looking for football and this community of fans to add to the awfulness. So, I dunno.
All of it, this shit is easy.

I think that because so many Giants fans are Yankee fans, expectations are somewhat skewed. The Yankees' sustained success is not normal in American sports. The Giants' up-and-down is much more so.

But Dane, there's been unconscionable shit here all the time. Before the team really stank to high heaven, guys would be snarky, demeaning, insulting, all kinds of puerile or worse behavior, and sometimes administered by some of our better posters, in terms of football acumen.

It's the internet, the anonymity, the ego and testosterone mingled with games of one upsmanship on many sides.

I seriously don't think that's changed all that much during the maybe 15 years I've been reading and actively posting here.

You really think it's gotten worse? I don't see it so much.

It feels worse to me. More name-calling and anger on threads.

Game threads were always very negative, people wanting players cut and coaches fired every time the other team made a play. It's the discussion threads that seem worse to me.

Great Dane 100%

. This is not directed to any particular poster, but I ve often found it extremely annoying when Fans come to an NFL forum as Giants fans, to share that they really aren’t interested enough to watch the Giants or the NFL anymore.

FINE, don’t watch, there s no law or consequences for not watching.

But why do you bring that negativity to a site where guys like Dane and myself, who have always understood it s just a hobby, something we enjoy come to read about the team.

Seems weird, you don’t really care anymore, but take time to come to the Internet, to a site, dedicated to the thing you don’t care about

Weird.
