How much more can you watch this year?

Ozarkman : 11/9/2019 12:21 pm
Been a fan since the late 60's. I watched every minute of every game in the 70's....brutal! These past several years have been as bad or worse to watch. I semi checked out after the Lions game. Oct and we're done....again. I'll watch if I have nothing better to do and will turn it off if its another bad game. No longer giving the kind of commitment I used to. This team has earned the worst label I think a team can have....irrelevant. Anyone else feel this way? Or maybe I'm just a grumpy old man.

I watch every game and will continue to
PatersonPlank : 11/9/2019 3:42 pm : link
IMO, if you stop watching just because your team isn't winning you really aren't a fan. If you can only root for winners that root for the Patriots, and when they suck (which they eventually will) then go root for whoever is on top then.
Ill still watch /dvr every game
ron mexico : 11/9/2019 3:47 pm : link
But wont go to lengths to make sure I have uninterrupted time to watch the game spoiler free.
Grandpa, do you remember the game...
Dan in the Springs : 11/9/2019 3:48 pm : link
When Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley scored 70 points?

No, I didn't watch because they weren't winning enough. You see, in this family we only keep watching if the team is winning, we only are fans of teams when they are good.
Will watch every snap

But I've stopped reading the transcripts from the pressers. I look for injury news/roster changes and ignore the rest.

IDK. No one likes their team losing, but I actually think this has been an interesting season despite the finishes.

I know there's a segment of the fanbase that feels we should be angry all the time, as that somehow motivates Mara.

As a Giants/Mets/Islanders/Knicks fan, I've rooted for a lot of bad teams and still managed to have fun.

As for BBI, this site has always been nasty as shit. I have 10-year account and was lurking at least five years before that.

Eric decides what this community will be, and so, you just have to have fun with the twats.
watched every game since 1957.....
thrunthrublue : 11/9/2019 4:29 pm : link
now I have Sunday ticket......paying, to watch garbage. until the regime changes, I'd be better off burning the 400 bucks from the ticket, and driving to the dump every Sunday, spend four hours watching the free shit show. worst coach, general manager in the league.......and, no chance these two will ever improve, yes, the giants hired a 17 and 42 leader. please ownership, get to the sucking point where the franchise is endangered to the point you clean house. scouting flat out sucks, a penchant for drafting slow, ill equipped, dumb players who follow their loser coach's lead. Shurmur, is a specialist at losing, and that is what he does best.
I will watch just to see if they can pull something exciting again

Maybe a Turkey will pass the endzone instead of a black cat

I torture myself every week in hopes of seeing anything. Watching the Giants now is essentially like looking for Bigfoot.

Very accurate. LOL never thought of it that way but that's accurate. Right now it seems we'll never see them winning a game again.
I'm definetly watching it, but my enthusiasm is less than zero
Zeke's Alibi : 11/9/2019 5:12 pm : link
And almost hope they lose because its going to take that to get rid of PS. I have zero belief in the guy

Description of of lot of Patriot fans.
Im rooting for them to lose
cosmicj : 11/9/2019 5:22 pm : link
Theres no benefit from a win. A loss pushes us closer to a total housecleaning at the coaching and front office levels and improves our draft position. I am also actively rooting for teams like the Bengals and Dolphins to win games.

You can call me whatever names you want but I insist there is literally No Upside to the Giants winning any game the rest of the year.
The upside to is that the 35-40 guys who are currently on the roster
ron mexico : 11/9/2019 5:35 pm : link
And will be on the roster this year show that they are capable nfl players.

I will watch every game they play.

I've been a Giants fan since 1961 and never missed a game in all that time except for 2 that were recorded and I watched them as if live. Although I will watch, the games are a family affair in my house, my enthusiasm has dimmed. In addition to the Giants sucking, it may have something to do with age also.
As some have mentioned, a loss was a downer for a week, now its maybe 30 minutes. And even though I always root for a win while the game is on, after a loss I rationalize that its good in the long run draft position, etc.

As far as BBI, I lost track of when I first joined, but it was several years before the institution of user registration. And yes, it has always been nasty, but there were always some immensely interesting and entertaining threads, but those are gone. In light of the present political nightmare, that's probably a good thing, but its still something missing. Never understood the reason for the nastiness of some posters, but it is in fact a function of the internet.

I used to be on BBI for hours every day with multiple posts daily, even in the off season. Now I rarely visit and almost never post . Giants sucking, BBI nastiness and blandness (its not easy to achieve both), age? Probably all the above, but the Giants are a tradition in our family and I will watch every game.
Ill Watch
WillVAB : 11/9/2019 7:50 pm : link
Because I enjoy football and the Giants are my team. That said I dont see how anyone can enjoy this brand of Giants football.
I watch this video every so often
mattnyg05 : 11/9/2019 8:05 pm : link
Really makes you think about the good times and enjoy your fanhood as a whole instead of over dwelling on the present.

This bad stretch theyve had? Thats the river. Everything youve ever watched, everything that made you so happy or sad? Thats the sea. This sucks now but its almost saying the reason you endure the bad is to enjoy the good.

That was the river... - ( New Window )
I think I'm fairly done for the season
santacruzom : 11/9/2019 8:56 pm : link
I'd watch if they were like the Warriors before they became good: shitty, but at least exciting. But the Giants are just excruciating.
I watched the 1990 Super Bowl a week ago.
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 11/9/2019 9:04 pm : link
The game the NFL ranked as the 5th greatest of all time.

What a difference from today. No flag on every other play, with the officials often huddling first. No replay on every third play with more standing around by the players. The teams ran a play, went back into the huddle and ran the next play within thirty seconds. There was a flow.

No super slow motion replays of a "catch" by a receiver to see if the ball had begun to move in his hands before his knee touched down. Pass interference was the weakest part of the game then and it's still the weakest part, except that it stops the game while they review it now.

Why replay. The bad calls against you equaled out the bad calls in favor.

"Taunting" penalties? Two teams can slug it out for fifty five minutes on the clock only to have the game decided on whether one play "taunted" the other. Roughing the quarterback called if a DE gives the QB a light two handed shove in the back after the ball is gone?

But the worst part is the hardest to fix. Much less hard hitting, and penalties called on hits that would have been celebrated in 1990.

Not much you can do about that except maybe if someone came up with better protective gear then basically the same stuff you've been using for fifty years.
I like the players but
MtDizzle : 11/9/2019 9:12 pm : link
I have come to really hate the coach and gm with a passion.
I still watch and hope for the best.

Sad part was being so excited about the Tampa Bay win. Haven't had that winning feeling much over the past bunch of years.
I'm like River Mike

I have been to, watched, or listened to every game since 1966. I have seen MANY awful teams but what is happening currently, is as bad or worse the I have seen in all my years. We'll be picking in the top 10 again which is what, five of the last six years? With this management team and coaching staff, I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel. The team is a disgrace but, I'll continue to watch them eat my heart out.
Except for my time in Vietnam I watched every single Giants game that
SterlingArcher : 11/9/2019 9:28 pm : link
was available and I will continue to do so. If you are with them for the good you have to be with them for the bad. This team will turn it around, maybe not this year or next, but it will once again be a winner.
Too late to stop now...
trueblueinpw : 11/9/2019 9:59 pm : link
Just like Van the man. But Ill admit that I pretty much only watch on TiVo. TiVo is great for the NFL b/c you can blow right through the ads and you can slow mo the plays. Unless the Giants are in a big game, who needs to see it live?
I have it on
Jersey Heel : 11/9/2019 10:03 pm : link
But grade papers, read on my iPad, etc. and generally only pay attention when we have the ball.
Every snap 2 or 3 times
V.I.G. : 11/9/2019 10:33 pm : link
I want to watch the progress of the guys that will be the foundation

And confirm by watching their shitty play, the players I want cut my mini camp.
The whole season

I adapt my watching habits to the quality of the product.

I now have some cooking project(s) on the back burner every Sunday (or gametime); as the game deteriorates into a puddle of slime I devote more and more time to the kitchen, with the set still on and listening.

Oh I start with having the project(s) loosely set up, devoting commercials only to the kitchen. Gradually that devolves into full time cooking with listening to the game only since the kitchen space is open to the living room. If I hear something good happening, I step back into the LR to watch.

Later today, it will be 2 dishes: French onion soup and prepping a large dish of eggplant parmesan. The assembly of the eggplant parma has to wait for the consumption of the Pompano Morrocan style later this evening that currently occupies the large baking dish. The prep work (slicing eggplants, frying eggplant slices, grating cheese, making tomato sauce) can commence anytime.

Onion soup requires a shitload of onions to be thinly sliced and then caramelized and reduced in volume in a large pot. Over a small flame, it doesn't require too much attention while it caramelizes, but only the rather infrequent stirring and scraping of the bottom of the pot.
I still watch every game
Mike from Ohio : 11/10/2019 7:32 am : link
But many times on delay so that I can reduce the 3.5 hour commitment. I used to text though the games with friends about what was happening, but that doesnt happen anymore because there is nothing positive to say.

Each week I hope to see improvement out of the young players so that there is some hope going into next year. This team just doesnt have that. Barkley is Barkley, Jones makes some wow plays but seems to be required by law to turn it over 3 times every game. Overall, the team is poorly built and poorly coached so they are frustrating to watch. But I will watch anyway and hope for something to miraculously improve.

One poster above said something about the losing not being tolerated for long. That is the worst part of this for me. This organization does accept and tolerate losing. The focus is on people, not performance. They evaluate Dave and Pat and decide if they are the right fit. They dont look at wins and losses and ask if they are the best people for the job. That is more frustrating than the performances on the field.

But I will watch this crap show they roll out there today hoping for no particular reason that there are signs of life.
