they're kepping Gettleman. They've shown they will stick with GM's longer than coaches. Kept Accorsi when they fired Fassel. Ditto Reese-Coughlin.

I was optimistic about it at first, but he looks like just another guy out there at a position where they had plenty of guys just like that.

And it will stink more when the pick they gave up is a top 70 pick. Add on to that we will now be paying a guy who looks like he is going to be the second coming of Olivier Vernon.

failure in the future. You hire a HC that means if they stink again next year and you want to get rid of gettleman after 2020 then you are left with a HC without a GM and that always leads to problems. You need to start from scratch and pick a new GM who then can hire a new HC

What I hear from the Gettleman defenders is his drafts have been amazing compared to Reese. I'll take this years picks out of the argument, so we've got a season and a half to examine his first draft. Aside from the easy picks, what has BJ Hill done? Has Lorenzo Carter shown anything this year? Lauetta's gone already. Seems like it's the same old story, 1st and 2nd rounders do ok, but rounds 3 and 4 where you have to hit your picks seem to be lacking. Again.

Well, I didn't go into this years picks because it's too early to criticize, or applaud those picks. If you want to go there though...X-Man is another one that is supposed to be good, but hasn't done much. Love? Ballentine? Connelly was a hit, maybe. Big George (great nickname...but we'll find out next year, I guess).

At the end of the day, it's way too early to make a judgement on those picks. But I think the 2018 draft is looking like this: 1st round hit (which considering it was the 2nd pick it should've been), solid 2nd rounder, then not a whole lot after that.
